A particularly insightful excerpt from Paul Wells' piece in

@PierrePoilievre

"One more thing. I think people who are bewildered by Poilievre’s sometimes harsh and cutting tone could stand to think harder about why he’s that way. In June, during a campaign stop in
Universities should be bastions of free speech. Instead, they've become breeding grounds for toxic cancel culture. A
@PierrePoilievre
government would protect free speech on campus.
My message to universities:
Protect free speech and academic freedom to keep federal grants.
I will appoint a Free Speech Guardian, a retired judge, to ensure academic freedom is defended.
This is the single biggest reason why
@PierrePoilievre
is so popular. Because he speaks the simple truth, in plain words, without fear or hesitation, when others will not.
"The media want to make it sound like there is a constitutional obligation that we allow these drug dens anywhere they want to go up. That is not true."
Poilievre gets into a heated exchange with a Globe and Mail reporter about injection sites.
I really love this description from
@PierrePoilievre
about how all kinds of conservatives fit into his vision for the coalition. First principles - like freedom - unite us.
Conservative leadership candidate
@PierrePoilievre
says his message of "freedom" will keep the so-called big blue tent united and bring together different groups within the conservative movement. Watch full interview here:
Atrocious reporting. Zero evidence to support the claim in the headline. Embarrassing quote from an academic completely disconnected from politics. There's so much news to cover and so many stories to tell. But this is what we get. I can't imagine why the MSM is failing.
By white-passing, Rachel means Jewish.
She's referring to advocacy around the rape of Israeli women and the illegitimacy of the advocacy based on the racial qualities of Jewish women.
Just so everyone's clear on what this post is about.
If your “feminism” only includes advocating for yourself, white or white-passing women — especially when you used the pain of women of colour to build up clout to speak on these issues — you’re of a bit of a dick.
Don’t blame others for seeing it! Just try to be less of a dick!
36,804 Canadians and counting were inspired enough by
@PierrePoilievre
to hand over some of their hard-earned money to help make him PM. This when many of them are struggling to get by. That's how let down they are by the status quo, and how much hope they have for what's next.
If you live in Leslieville and you're concerned about your kids picking up needles that surround the drug consumption site, you don't have to worry. In fact, if your kids collect enough they can trade them in for chocolate!
This blows apart the notion that Conservatives need to apologize for our views and try to sneak by unnoticed in order to win. Canadians are craving a bold alternative and
@PierrePoilievre
's narrative opens up a whole new pool of voters for us to win over and form government.
How much appeal does
@PierrePoilievre
's message have with the Canadian electorate? More than you likely assume.
We shared his launch video and asked respondents to respond. Here's what we learned:

Some of our Toronto neighbours are facing harassment - just for being Jewish. As a non Jew, I’m putting a mezuzah on my door to stand in solidarity with my friends who deserve to live without fear. Never again.
Big city gatekeepers—like Vancouver City Hall—are destroying the home ownership dreams of working class youth.
Enough.
If they want more federal money, these big city politicians will need to approve more home building.

Further lockdown measures that don't target spread where it's happening but simply seek to signal *action*, with joyless, ineffective restrictions will make people very, very angry.
Want to pay family or a neighbour to care for your child? The Liberal child care plan doesn't help you. Work hours that aren't 9-5? The Liberal plan doesn't help you. Tell them it doesn't help you? Well, you just don't know what's good for you. And you sure aren't a feminist.

But don’t stick with gasoline and then go on endlessly about the price of gasoline.
Five stages of Liberal housing supply incompetence:
1) Mock Poilievre's plan
2) Shuffle Cabinet
3) Deny responsibility
4) Repackage Poilievre's plan
(the one you mocked)
and try to claim it as your own
*hint, we're in this stage right now*
5) Fail miserably
“The federal government cannot alter municipal zoning codes, but it can offer incentives to do so. It could set up a set of minimum standards (call it a National Zoning Code), and any municipality that altered its zoning code to be compliant could be given one-time per-capita
Conservative strategist Ginny Roth, with Crestview Strategy, described the win as massive and “hard to overstate.”
“To me, that means the Liberals are under 15 seats in a general election,” she said.
What a thing to brag about. When Harper had the courage to slightly shift the age of retirement (nowhere near what was called for relative to changing longevity) to make OAS and GIS more sustainable for future generations, we reversed it! Congrats, guys.
When Pierre Poilievre and Stephen Harper wanted to raise the retirement age from 65 to 67 – our Liberal team said no. We reversed that reckless policy, and we boosted OAS and GIS payments.
When Conservatives try to make cuts, Liberals will always have your back.
So far this campaign, the
@liberal_party
has tried to wedge

People come to Canada for freedom, but lately, they haven't felt so free.
Give people back control of their lives. Make Canada the freest country on earth.

I think Trudeau stays.
But if he doesn't, remember, the LPC set up their leadership race process for a coronation.
There is no party to speak of, there is no core base of members, there is no will of the establishment.
There is only chaos.
Interested in comments on this post by CPC leader. The wife with a “cold one” “waiting for” the man to come home is an old stereotype. What’s the message from a party that needs female voters? Some will dismiss it as nothing but personal posts of leaders are political messaging
Conservatives rarely get credit for their political successes. That's OK, we're used to it - and winning is enough. Still, I thought it was worth writing about.
Governments should require that public health data reporting clarify whether hospitalized patients were admitted because of COVID or happen to have COVID. And newsrooms should ask these questions before publishing misleading, fear-mongering headlines.
Some interesting numbers out of
@HRHospital
today.
Of our 27 hospitalized patients with COVID-19, only half are admitted because of COVID. The rest are admitted for other reasons and happened to test positive for COVID.
Our COVID cases in the ICU remain very low at 3.

Strange framing to concede the Poilievre point that there is billions in waste. Totally undercuts future attempts to portray him as austere and makes the conversation about who is a more competent fiscal manager who can get this done. Surely the LPC knows they lose that debate.
Making life more affordable - in one of the simplest ways possible - by allowing people to keep more of their hard earned money. This is what good conservative public policy looks like.

Our media try to bully the leader of the opposition into accounting for every single random person who shows up at his rallies. Surely to God they'll insist the Prime Minister account for this - the endorsement of his foreign policy by a cold-blooded terrorist.

Beware Liberals, media commentators and self-loathing Conservatives who tell you Kenney was just too moderate for the angry, fringe, rabble. These are the very same people who called Kenney a right-wing-so-con-bigot for years until it became inconvenient to their thesis. 1/2

Canada should be a meritocracy - where it doesn't matter where you come from, it matters where you're going.
The only way for the PM to play to both sides of his electoral coalition is to set up a straw man. No one thinks the price of justice is the cost of all Palestinians. It's a false premise.
This is the strongest language I’ve heard yet from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Gaza: “Israel has a right to defend itself but the price of justice cannot come at the cost of ALL Palestinians.”
#cdnpoli
"How do you explain that to little girls?"
I'll tell you how. You explain that Henein is a brilliant powerhouse doing the noble, important work of defending the accused. A job without which our justice system wouldn't function.
I could do without school boards, I really could.
No question who’s winning this debate.

Theoretical spouse here 🙋♀️. I'm glad our ethics rules enabled my husband,
@telfordk
and others like them to take on honourable roles in government and I'm glad their spouses have been able to similarly pursue ambitious careers. Let's not ruin that with click bait non-stories.
Having a spouse working in public affairs while you’re a government staffer is uncomfortable, but there are procedures there to help you navigate it. If you want to construct a story to insinuate wrongdoing, it’s easy to do, though I think it’s lazy. 1/

Thinking of Jewish friends this evening. Not only must they mourn the loss of family and friends in their homeland, but they are seized with threats to their own safety at home in Canada as terrorists call for global Jihad. If we value civilization, we must stand against evil.
The attack on the Al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza is horrifying and against international humanitarian law. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones.
Let’s be clear.
There can be no justification to strike a hospital nor civilians.
Amazing news. So pleased to see someone from my generation, experiencing my generation's problems, put her name forward to try to fix them. Sabrina is smart, articulate, and principled. I'm so looking forward to her joining

Conservatives *never* get credit for earning voter support. It's always an accident, a mere blip, a strange potpourri of random events, a quirk of history!
It's fine. We don't need the credit.
Winning will be enough.
I'm convinced that there isn't a natural Conservative majority coalition in Canada. But it can be artificially formed through a confluence of external circumstances or when faced with lackluster opposition.
Currently, we're witnessing this coalition take shape, uniting
The Speaker of the House of Commons must be independent and non-partisan.

This is a farce and it represents a troubling decoupling of government advice from lived reality. Reasonable people are not going to wait until the fall to gather with their families.

If this surprises you, you haven't been paying attention.
If you innovate, create, take risks, build things, and create jobs for people in this country, then tell your story.
That's all there is to it.
This is the wrong way around. The only reason housing is such a powerful investment is because we've limited supply. We've made building housing virtually illegal so investors are going after a scarce valuable resource. Houses aren't supposed to be diamonds.
NEW: Why are home prices in Ontario through the roof? Perhaps investors are a factor. Multi-property owners account for more than 25% of residential real estate transactions this year, a higher proportion than ever. Story by

The activists defending Leslieville's unsafe, poorly-managed drug consumption site want this to be about stigma and NIMBYism because they know if it's about public safety and drug dealers, they lose.
Unfortunately for them, the neighbourhood will not be so easily spun.
1) The francophone university was never a thing. It would not have been built, under any government.
2) Why do we need a commissioner for everything? We don't have a commissioner for CT scanners. Or bridge repairs. Or curriculum design. It's called government.
3) $15 BILLION!
"Conservatives need to focus on offence, and we need to elect a brave leader who will get their elbows up, power forward and start putting points on the board".
My latest for
@nationalpost
:
1) The virus is spreading in essential environments.
2) Those environments are essential for a reason: you can't just cut off supply chains and services.
3)Shutting down non-essential environments is fiddling at the margins.
4) The only way out is vaccinations.
Truly, watching Toronto City Council tonight, the case for shrinking it could not be more compelling.

Hey
@JustinTrudeau
, we are ready in Durham whenever you'd like to call the by-election. Our communities are ready to make a statement: Canadians want change, and
@PierrePoilievre

Not only has the management of Leslieville's drug consumption site sat idly by as the neighbourhood has grown less safe, one of their own employees has now been charged in connection to last month's murder:
Which Jean Charest should you believe?
The one who moved to ban face coverings when he was Premier?
Or the one who says he opposes measures like that now?
Actions speak louder than words.
What does this even mean? People can't afford food or homes. I think the first step for the signatories of this letter is to try to understand why most Canadians might not share their priorities.
Yesterday, I co-signed a letter in the

Canadian democracy can't thrive unless our leaders are civil, respectful, and prioritize social peace.

Softening our China stance would be a huge mistake. This should embolden us further and
@CPC_HQ
should reach out to HK and China diaspora communities who agree with us just as so many others who have suffered or seen their families suffer under communist regimes do.
Deeply worrying.
I hope this outcome doesn't cause our parties -- tbh, it's just the Tories that show a backbone on this issue -- to soften their stand on the Chinese govt. But I worry that cyncial electoral calculation will force them to.
