I have moved to the other place, where I want to post more about peer review integrity, open science and inequities in science. I'll keep this account open to keep updated on #gbbo memes and non-work related guilty pleasures.

VERY pleased to see eLife adopt PLOS' policy in this area. One of the intentions in developing a policy was to encourage other publishers to do the same, and I'm honoured that eLife, a true disrupting force in publishing, is using the policy we developed.
As part of our commitment to helping make the life sciences and medicine more equitable, diverse and inclusive, we are proud to announce a new policy for eLife focused on addressing “parachute science”.

TL;DR version - PLOS ONE and some other titles will be requiring all submissions describing research with human subjects to provide evidence of having obtained ethics approval. If it's not provided, the submission will be desk rejected by editorial staff.
In an effort to better ensure strong ethical standards are upheld in PLOS publication processes, @PLOSONE, @PLOSClimate, @PLOSGPH, and @PLOSWater have made important updates to the journals' Human Subject Research Policy. Read the updated policy here:

@timspector From the article: The study was observational, so cannot establish cause, nor rule out the possibility that other unknown factors may have affected the results.

@alison_mudditt @ashleydfarley True, but many are working in an environment where funding and tenure decisions are based on the journals researchers publish in. Don't hate the player hate the game!
