This is why I genuinely think
@TalkCPFC
has an impossible job getting 11/11. You could get ten goes at guessing the team and you would never get Gordon in the DM. Vintage Garth
There are so few out there doing what he’s doing at the level he’s doing it at. This is a generational talent we’re witnessing
- barely anyone playing in position
- 9/10 outfield players scored
- only outfield player not to score got sent off
- no understanding of wingbacks
What a beautiful little season we’ve had with Garth. Palmer has never played there ever
There is a way he can change this to keep the existing players and make it make more sense, but he can’t be bothered and fair play
As always in recent weeks, his gems are in the text
@fistedaway
Forster in goal for saving a pen. Back three of Gabriel, Chilwell and worrall (all scored). Almiron at RWB, Trossard LWB. Billing and odegaard in the middle. Kane, Isak and Haaland up top. 9 of the 11 scoring goals
Not many thoughts on a pretty classic Garth selection, but I will never get over why Sterling and Saka aren’t switched to play on the sides they actually played on
Shoutout to walker for having multiple families but still being good at football. Shoutout to Tom Lockyer for having a medical emergency
Shoutout to Klopp and Salah for leaving even though Salah hasn’t left
A great case study of recency bias. Neither Palmer nor Foden in after midweek hattricks is very mad
Although Palmer does get in his brand new honourable mentions section. That contains Andy Madley? And a Welbeck shoutout despite him have 0 G/A this week
Lovely
This is the level this man is operating on that people simply don’t appreciate. I think his thoughts when he picks the team is
- who scored
- who do I like
He is a purely vibes based pundit in the ever increasing age of data driven analysis. We must treasure him
Can’t even begin to describe how annoying the positioning of Wilson and Soucek are. Why not just swap them. Where does he think Harry Wilson plays!?
The anti Arsenal bias also very funny, bravo
If you told me at the beginning of the season that Garth would pick a team with Stones playing CM I would have never believed you, and yet here we are
Also in awe of Bowen CF, the amount of time he has dedicated to hating the ‘false 9’ is only second to his hate for Xhaka
Not much to see here except some classics
- Palmer and Gibbs-White being that way round is infuriating
- Doku on the wrong side
To be honest he could so easily play a different formation and have lots of players in their reasonable positions
This weeks gems are in the text
This is more like it. Two full backs in the back three. Salah and Son as wingbacks. No midfield balance. Solanke out of position. She’s been to the Garth school of team selection
-All 10 outfield players scoring is wonderful stuff
- Mykolenko isn’t a CB
- Wing backs completely mad
- Sarabia in because of a good finish having barely played any minutes
- Palmer didn’t play there
Classic team
Inevitable he does this. Two yellows for dives is the ultimate Garth bait, nothing he would have liked talking about more. I am actually a fan of honourable mentions, because it means he’s less likely to pick some random player just so he can talk about an incident in their game
This new section is definitely going to throw up more and more great content. His commitment to just shoehorning in random players he wants to talk about is unmatched
Something I never thought I would see. A normal team. Everyone pretty much in their positions. An actual balance to the midfield. Put in players who didn’t even score on the merits of their performance
I’m sure this means next weeks team will be insane
‘From then on it was all Liverpool’. Villa literally scored 10 minutes later. Also him saying he doesn’t often select subs feels wrong. I feel he does it all the time
Just incredible. Most people playing out of position. Trent after a defensive horror show playing CB
CM appears to be Grealishs new position in his eyes
As usual he doesn’t understand the WB position at all
I think Shearer really manages to fly under the radar compared to Garth. His team is objectively more mental. Although Rice at LWB is beautiful from Crooks
Garth Crooks' team of the season describing Ruben Dias as a "Spanish international" - 46 caps for Portugal and has never even played in, let alone for, Spain - is spectacular even by the big man's standards
It’s all come down to this. A team of the season where KDB is playing right wing and Odegaard left wing
Obviously disappointed it isn’t more insane, was half expecting like the 9 top scorers to be shoehorned in alongside a couple others
Two teams in and he hasn’t gone crazy yet. However his commitment to playing the wingers on the wrong side is fascinating. Some gems in the paragraphs as well
Relatively disappointed that it’s this normal. Of course the wingbacks aren’t wingbacks but they never are
I will always respect his sheer laziness with what side he plays each wide forward, both again clearly on the wrong side
I would love to know why Almiron has switched sides from last week. Foden in the RWB role is something Pep would be proud of though. Koulibaly on the wrong side of the three but he’s made more mental teams
So desperate to talk about the ref but no players he could reasonably put in the team so creates a whole new section that he then has to populate with whatever else he can think of
A rare change to 4-3-3. Really impressed he’s playing Milner where he actually played. Martinez clearly didn’t play LB. Saka plays a different position every time he makes the team and it’s never the one he actually played that day. Salah on the left is so lazy I respect it
Classic 3-4-3 from Garth. Will ignore the fact that Silva would never play RCB and that Almiron isn’t a RWB and congratulate him on a team that vaguely makes sense
@MichaelConnor27
Look we can’t start getting into if he’s selected the right players or not. He’s playing people (mostly) in their positions. This is huge progress
Garth favouring the fashionable 3-4-3 as he does most weeks here. Unusual selection of Grealish in a midfield two very much overshadowed by playing two CMs at wingback. He’s definitely fielded more insane teams
Absolutely vintage Crooks here – maintaining his anger at Emerson Royal across two different team of the week entries in the same article, getting increasingly furious
