I'm not shy about my feelings that I am not a fan of the current Spider-Man comic. "Mean-spirited" is a word I've used. "Miserable" is how it makes me feel.
But largely that stems from my frustrations at knowing this character and his stories should reflect the BEST of us. 1/3

I crack up whenever I hear that the Spider-Man marriage somehow made the characters "too happy" and problem-free. Like, one month after agreeing to marry him, readers were seeing them go through one of the darkest, most traumatic stories in the book's history. And it was GREAT.

I will take every opportunity to remind people the man MJ is with was culpable for genociding billions of men, women, and children, and that keeps being excused as a mistake we shouldn’t hold against him.
What a tone-deaf, ignorant storyline this has been.
This such an awful sight - another pathetic attempt to make readers believe that there's no *bad history* between Peter, MJ and Paul this run, that "we've read this run *the wrong way*". Such incompetence ...

A few months ago, I heard certain individuals at Marvel still claiming that an adult, mature, married Spider-Man was “a mistake” and that fans were impossible to please.

I have seen this panel of MJ & Peter dancing a THOUSAND times and only JUST realized MJ is intentionally slow-dancing with Peter to a high-energy disco song that doesn’t benefit dance partners at all. No one else is doing it.
This girl is in a whole different reality with Peter.

One of my small grievances with Marvel's "Jackpot" is that Mary Jane's costume was just given to her by Felicia. Mary Jane's established history with fashion and costume design was an easy lay-up for her to design her OWN costume and maintain more agency in building herself up.

There are many reasons Ultimate Spider-Man succeeds, but THE reason I bought it is because of the MARRIAGE. Full stop.
Thankfully, the rest of the book has other amazing qualities. It only further convinces me it's needed in the 616.

It remains fascinating to me that the intent behind One More Day was to break up the Spider-Man & Mary Jane marriage... yet the story ITSELF absolutely pushes and advocates for them to overcome this event and insists their love is irreplaceable. 16 years later, this remains true.

As a kid, I didn't know what kind of adult I'd grow up to be. The future terrified me. Would I find the right girl? Be a good husband? A good father? Comics, and Spider-Man in particular, gave me something to aim for.
Now I DO have a family and I realize how much I owe to this.

Comics matter. Stories matter. Not just the superheroes fighting monsters, aliens, and robots, but also the normal people who have the courage to face the demons and monsters of the real world. They inspire us just as much as any spandex-clad superhero.

Editorial killed his kids, erased his marriage, made him a pariah in the hero community, and he hit rock bottom.
Fans pushed back.
Now he has his reputation, his marriage, and his children back. And I’m reading the book again.

Comic ages are WEIRD, because one of these 28 year old guys is written like a grizzled mid-40s John Connor savior with multiple marriages and kids, and the other is written like a 16 year old teenager trapped in an adult’s body that struggles to talk to girls or grow up.

Ever since One More Day fans and readers have CONSISTENTLY voted in favor of Peter and Mary Jane's marriage being restored. I don't know what kind of "metrics" the Spidey Office says they rely on that says otherwise, but I've only seen support for restoring the marriage GROW.

I have comics of Peter changing diapers and paying taxes, and they're great because they humanize him more than anything that's happened in ASM in ages.
