What's often forgotten is that Lockwood was not a one-off refusal. As recently as five years ago, a government commitment to expand Magee was thrown out by @Economy_NI in favour of bailing out UU's new £400m Belfast campus. Dublin and London need to step in now and resolve this.

Sixty-five years since the campaign for a university began; 60 since its FIRST refusal. We need to remember it is only five years since Stormont underwrote a £400m university for Belfast, while on the same day overturned a government promise to expand Magee to 10000 students.
Monday marks 60 years since Lockwood snubbed Derry and Magee College as site of a second university in the North and chose Coleraine instead.
