I received so many kind comments when I shared this clip that I wrote & storyboarded. Been thinking about how much Professor means to me as a girl who lost her dad to cancer when I was only a bit older than these three. A lot of that love and yearning ended up in this scene.

in regards to my "are wings wasted on her?" note: I think we made the wings work fine when all was said and done, but I still, to this day, think Pinkie should have had the wings. Fluttershy is an earth pony at heart.

Many replies to my "why do teen girls prefer anime" question is exactly what I've long suspected (and screamed from the roof tops): that western animation has too little to offer teen girls, but animation from Japan does. We go from elementary school to adult & nothing inbetween.

Once upon a time in stroyboarding. It was impossible to animate on these - and we didn't have to. Somehow we told good stories without animating at this phase. Now boards MUST be animated, but without more time and pay for the extra labor. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY.
HISTORY LESSON: here is a classic Hanna-Barbera storyboard panel tablet. we used to have stacks off these at our desks. THIS is the size drawing we used to do for storyboards (3"x4"). We'd then tape these down onto the 3-panel 'board pages to turn in. So teeny! (ha)

I've always refrained from defining the pony's ages because they are not human. Twilight has the maturity level of about 15. But, being a horse, who are geriatric around 30, maybe she is only 3. MAYBE. I never decided how pony aging works.
@Fyre_flye Here I have a question for @Fyre_flye, I was always curious about Twilight Sparkle's age, since she looks young but I don't know how old she is specifically.

My original take on Spike and Rarity: . Spike is a child, Rarity an adult. Spike has a crush akin to a kid crushing on a babysitter, and he will grow out of it. Rarity doesn't want to hurt his feelings because she is fond of him and thinks it's cute. But don't let me stop you!.

2/2 I wanted the snakes to have their own personalities, but the number we are all used to seeing on Medusa's head would have been far too many to manage. Bringing the number down by giving them big python bodies solved many problems - and was fun to draw!
