Former IG Joseph Boinnet says removal of NPRs(National Police Reservists) is the major reason the bandits are having the freedom to attack. He says in his tenure he had made sure that there were enough NPRs. Since their removal, bandits are having a filed day.

At one point we had to get an escort from Rapid Deployment Unit, RDU, officers who escorted us through as we headed to Mochongoi. 30 mins after they picked us, we were told a town we had passed by was attacked. 2 days after we left, 4 pple were murdered here.

I was a cop and I can tell this was a case of depression triggered by the OCS.
Major reasons;
1. Poor pay
2. Being away from family for so long.
3. Poor living conditions.
4. Lack of psychosocial support.
5. A govt that doesn't care about them.

I served the Kenya Police Force in Isiolo(Modogashe) btn 2005-2008.
My hardship allowance was Kshs 600 while high school teachers, in Modogashe, were being paid Ksh 6,000!!
The area is considered as an operational area. Officers in these areas don't sleep, Al-Shabaab threats.

As a former police officer, I feel the pain of Kenyans. But I know so well, that these same officers are sometimes your ONLY saviour. If you have ever encountered carjackers, rapists, terrorists, muggers etc, then you know that cops willingly put their lives at risk to save you.
