For every one thing worth cheering about Amy Coney Barrett's apparent nomination, there are ten things worth praying for. We should take the time to do so. Beginning tomorrow, she and her family will face principalities and powers that most of us won't ever encounter. #PrayforAmy

“Canceling Mass” does not accurately describe what dioceses are doing in response to the COVID-19 threat. Mass will continue to be said daily by priests everywhere. The bishops have simply asked priests not to celebrate Mass publicly, so as to protect the faithful from infection.

The 800 year-old stone vaulting of Notre Dame worked as designed. Amazing. The wooden roof went up like a tinderbox, but the embers were caught by the vaulting just beneath, with very little of it giving way, preserving the interior below. #NotreDameCathedral

The more priests talk to Boomers, the more they learn that Boomers' parents--the Greatest Generation--told their children early on to ignore certain teachings of the Church. This is an under-appreciated piece of the current puzzle.

Like the legal redefinition of marriage, the legal redefinition of sex does not represent the defeat of faith in the public square. It's worse than that. It represents the defeat of reason. Faith cannot supply the plain truth--of man and woman--that reason refuses to see.

Tomorrow, on the last day of our community retreat, the friars of the Dominican House of Studies will observe a day of prayer and penance in reparation for the sins of the clergy. Join us in offering prayers and sacrifices to God for his mercy, justice, and healing grace.
