A mock-up of the fold-out map in the Black Stone Heart INSANITY edition (and some other sexiness).
If you missed the Kickstarter but want to be notified when the late backer store opens, DM me with an email address.
So....about this. According to the Hive AI detector the cover done for WAR TO END ALL contains AI-generated content. I have a cover reveal booked & a release schedule.
Still trying to figure out the full fallout from this.
I can say I'm not fucking happy.
More on this later.
I was looking for an artist & saw BOB THE WIZARD by
@prindle_matthew
. After pestering Matthew, I reached out to the artist,
@MaussLiterary
.
Sean has since done 2 covers for me including A WAR TO END ALL (reveal June 5).
This is an artist to watch.
AN END TO SORROW, the last book in the Obsidian Path trilogy goes live on May 15th.
To celebrate, the first book, BLACK STONE HEART, is free for the next five days!
Here's the deal:
If you send Advanced Review Copies of your book out to reviewers, THEY ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO...
a) Read your book
b) Review your book
c) Like your book
Send your ARCs out, pray to the dark gods they'll read/enjoy them, and stop bitching at reviewers.
I'm at the "this is the best book I've ever written" part of the process. Later comes the "what the fuck was I thinking" stage, which will be followed by the "I'm a no-talent ass-clown and I don't even know what this book is about" phase.
But right now it's fucking brilliant.
Getting things ready for next week.
I should prolly promote this thing for reals.
If anyone wants to interview a couple of deluded hacks, DM me.
If you are deluded enough to think you should receive an ARC, DM me and we'll see just how powerful your delusions are!
Have you seen the
@torbooks
cover reveal for IN THE SHADOW OF THEIR DYING?!
This beauty will be available for sale 19 March 2024 - and there will be physical ARCs up for grabs soon!
Heading out and run errands & pretend to be an adult, but we've set up a GoFuckMe to fund new cover art for the last Manifest Delusions novel due to a slight kerfuffle regarding AI art some of you might be aware of.
Any and all help is HUGELY appreciated!
@DirkBruere
Every writer/artist/musician has influences. But there's a difference between that and using AI to generate content & pass it off as your own work.
Like I said, if you're honest about your process, I have no issue. But my specifications were agreed to by the artist.
One issue here that should NOT be ignored:
The Hive AI content detector is NOT 100% accurate. But how inaccurate is it? I don't know. This is WAY beyond my expertise.
If a blogger/reviewer/reader accepts an Advanced Review Copy (ARC) from you, THEY OWE YOU NOTHING.
Never ever EVER pester a reviewer. If they don't review it, maybe they haven't read it yet. Maybe they did and hated it. NONE OF THAT MATTERS.
They owe you nothing.
🚨COVER RE-REVEAL🚨
Big shout to
@FletcherMR
&
@ClaytonSnyder2
for allowing me to reveal the FOR REAL cover of
A WAR TO END ALL (Manifest Delusions
#3
) - coming September 18th.

This will work.
A war, then. A war of our own.
A war for perfection and cleanliness and order.
A war to end suffering.
A war to end filth and disease.
A war to end immorality and injustice.
A war to end blasphemy.
The last war this world would ever see.
A war to end all.
I am heartbroken.
My daughter came home from a play date and said, “Uncle Ken makes better grilled cheese sandwiches than you.”
Obviously I’ll be selling the little shit on eBay now.
My Italian wife just bought a whole bunch of large wooden spoons. Either she's gonna bake something, or finally beat me to death for leaving my socks in the living room.
You know, if you're ok with insanity and narcotics shaping reality, sorcerers, demonologists, necromancers, shaman, and elementalists, but you think my books are unrealistic because there's a woman with a spear, you might wanna reconsider what the problem really is.
After a week or more, Amazon "sponsored brands" ad returned...ZERO!
Gonna fuck around with bookbub next. When it bombs, I'll go back to writing books and ignoring marketing & advertising.

I need to rediscover my love for reading fantasy and I don't know how.
Is it a question of finding something new, or should I dig out a classic?
To a large degree, I am my own worst enemy. I find it extremely difficult to shut off my writer brain.
This sucks.
Well, shit. I just realized that GHOSTS OF TOMORROW (written in 2008) takes place in October of 2023.
Do I leave it, or go back and put it in the future again?
THE OBSIDIAN PATH Omnibus is available for pre-order!
The omnibus (which includes BLACK STONE HEART, SHE DREAMS IN BLOOD, and AN END TO SORROW) will be released October 3rd in ebook, paperback, and hardcover, with audiobook to follow soon after!
Watched Thor: Love and Thunder and it was really stupid. And then it got even stupider and I began to like it. And then it got really, really dumb and became fantastic. And then Guns and Roses' "November Rain" landed and I was all in.
For the next few years we are going to see an absolute shit-ton of books with AI-generated cover art. Which makes this a great time to hire a real artist and stand out.
@DirkBruere
I think that's fine if you go into with that intention. Presumably you know what you're getting into re: copyright limitations and whatnot. The issue is when you hire an artist with specific NO AI instructions.
I finally got off my ass and learned how to use ANYMORE versus ANY MORE.
Nothing can stop me now.
Except the fact I will have to research this again tomorrow.
I think
@ClaytonSnyder2
and I are gonna do something insane. We've hatched a contest/giveaway that will see the winner walking away with a 16" x 24" stretched canvas print mounted in a gallery box of the cover art for A WAR TO END ALL.
Details and contest next week.

I don't promote this book nearly enough.
It was an
#SPFBO
finalist and has a lovely and subtle magic system that shapes both the world and the characters.
Dear twitter. Please help me compile a list of rules to live by.
1. You can never have too much cheese.
2. Ignore what people say, watch what they do.
3. ??
Not every book is for every reader. As a writer, you have to accept that some books will land flat for some folks. It's all part of the biz.
Case in point: "...maximum shittiness."
I do apologize if this stings, but...
Humans: Why can't I finish writing this novel?!
The Same Humans: Hey, this new TV show is awesome! And I love the new PS5 game!
I know. That was unusually cruel.
Daughter: Drawing mommy is easy because she looks amazing and could be a model if she wanted.
Me: How about drawing me?
Daughter: That would be a lot more difficult.
Reviewers, bloggers, & booktubers, Advance Review Copies of THE STORM BENEATH THE WORLD are available!
I promise I will never pester you about a review. If you read and review it a year from now, awesome. If you never get around to the book, no worries.
DM if interested.
BLACK STONE HEART came 2nd in SPFBO 6.
NORYLSKA GROANS (co-written with
@ClaytonSnyder2
) came in 4th in SPFBO 7.
HUGE thanks to
@Mark__Lawrence
for hosting the competition and to
@FantasyBookCrit
for mailing the coins!
WANNA THROW MONEY AT A WRITER?!!
I have a Patreon!
Everything earned will be spent on increasing the quality of my books. More insane cover art. Print ARCs and special hardcover editions. Interior illustrations. Character art. World maps! More!
9,300 words of world-building.
1,500 words of character work.
8,000 words of novel written.
And I still haven't a fucking clue what to call it.
It's making me twitchy. I love the project, but this has never happened before.
