ONC UPDATES: Earlier today, ONC Bushenyi sub-region team, led by Kansiime Peace, alongside Elite Abemigisha Bob (Mitooma Coordinator) and Michael Muhumuza (Sheema Coordinator), conducted a monitoring exercise in Mitooma District. The team visited Igambiro Primary School, Rutaka Primary School, and Kirembe Primary School in Katenga Sub-county. Key findings revealed a significant drop in school enrollment compared to the previous term. Additionally, while the UPE policy is meant to provide free education, its implementation on the ground remains questionable. As schools resume their studies for the first term, earlier today, the Bushenyi subregion ONC team, led by Kansiime Peace, along with Abemigisha Bob, the coordinator for Mitooma District, and Muhumuza Michael, the coordinator for Sheema, visited UPE schools: Igambiro Primary School and Kirembe Primary School, both located in Katenga Sub-county, Mitooma District. In their findings, the team discovered that some schools continue to levy fees on parents despite the President's directive halting all fees in government schools. Upon discussing the matter with the teachers, it was acknowledged that fees are still charged because the UPE funds received by the schools are insufficient to cover all their needs. #M7OncAtWork

ONC UPDATES FROM TESO SUB REGION Today, ONC Cordinators Iyogil Cecilia Kumi, Ejoku George William Amuria and Okiror Francis kapelebyong district visited Aakum Primary School, Abota Primary School and Ajeleik primary school respectively. In their findings, they found out that some of the challenges these schools are facing are; inadequate classrooms, no teacher’s houses which leads to poor time keeping of staff since they operate from far, lack of desks, negligence in parents allowing absenteeism of children, high poverty rate which has hindered some parents from providing pupils with scholastic materials. They however noted that even amidst these challenges, the schools administration and staff have not given up but continued to enroll students as the turn up is not as expected as the new term begins.
