Credit where do, this is long overdue. I'm also anti-paper straw. Tiny positives in a giant sea of negatives (tariffs, blatant disregard for the constitution, pardoning people who assaulted cops, screwing up NRC reform, screwing with key government functions)
For far too long the United States has minted pennies which literally cost us more than 2 cents. This is so wasteful! I have instructed my Secretary of the US Treasury to stop producing new pennies. Let's rip the waste out of our great nations budget, even if it's a penny at a time. Donald Trump Truth Social Post 09:27 PM EST 02/09/25

RT @scottlincicome: Taxing important manufacturing inputs does not, in fact, help manufacturing. Shocking, I know.

@6point626 But Part 53 is only a modest improvement when it could be so much more and the guidance for smaller reactors, especially non-light water reactors and microreactors has a long way to go.

RT @jsfreed: 100% this. Democrats need to rethink how government can focus on delivering effectively for the general public. Dems must stop…

@RenzTom You aren't getting into the authority to stop payments that have been authorized by congress? Neither of the laws you cited grant that authority or the authority to break executed contracts. DOGE is acting outside their legal authority

RT @RandPaul: Tariffs are simply taxes. Conservatives once united against new taxes. Taxing trade will mean less trade and higher prices.

Now would be a great time for Republican businessmen to revolt and humiliate Trump.
Less than 2 weeks in and 25% tariffs our close allies + 10% on China. Plus a (credible) promise that they will go even higher when there is (inevitable) retaliation. It’s hard to decide if this is worse economic policy or foreign policy. We’ll see if Trump caves to the market.

This is why tariffs, if used, need to be targeted. The Biden tariffs went too far but I at least saw the logic for new technologies where we need to avoid China dominating the market (EVs, batteries) & where margins were high enough to be worth it (solar tariffs were dumb).

RT @AlecStapp: This is why I’m skeptical the tariffs are going to boost American manufacturing:

Seems like an important point about Trump breaking the law. Of course Trump is well known for stiffing his contractors, but hopefully everyone who has been in that scenario stops voting for the guy.
Everyone seems to be framing Trump's freeze on federal grants as a Constitutional fight over powers of the purse & whether presidents can disregard Congressional appropriations. It is that. But also at stake is the fundamental validity of govt contracts! I see much less discussion on this... 🧵

I've been waiting for the uprate announcements! Excited about more clean energy coming to the grid.
Georgia Power proposed power uprates totaling 54 MW for units 1 and 2 of its Vogtle nuclear plant and 58 MW for its Hatch nuclear plant, along with other additions to meet booming demand growth in the state. 🔌💡

@Atomicrod @nuclearzak Not saying the NRC wasn't inefficient and costly, but the biggest thing was natural gas prices plummeting making nuclear uncompetative. Its also why I'm optimistic about Renaissance 2.0. Gas is cheap and there is still demand for nuclear.
