News: Today was my first day as an intern for
@RepRitchie
/
@RepRitchie
. Looking forward to working for and learning from my congressman and his great team this summer.
Some personal news to bring in the Jewish New Year: I am excited to be joining
@santiagomayer_
and the rest of the
@VotersTomorrow
team as the head of the New York Chapter!! Follow along for more updates in the coming weeks and for ways to get involved!
An absolute honor go be at the White House today to celebrate Jewish Heritage and have the chance to meet
@POTUS
.
“
@binghamtonu
is a great university”
THREAD: When I wake up in the morning(and in 10 minutes), Kathy Hochul will be my governor and not Andrew Cuomo.
Think about what this means for me as a senior in high school and all other seniors across the state and country. I am now 17. (1/7)
Had a great time meeting and speaking with
@AndrewYang
about youth engagement in politics, and his vision for NYC. We also talked a bit about his presidential run. And we of course mentioned our mayoral forum(). Great to meet you
@AndrewYang
!
I had a great time seeing
@AndrewYang
and
@EricDinowitz
yesterday! Remember that today is the last day to register to vote in the primary! Register here -
@LahavHarkov
@marcrod97
She most likely changed her vote because there is a good chance her new district(due to redistricting) will include Riverdale which has a large pro-Israel/Jewish population
The holocaust is not a political issue. It's a fact that the holocaust happened and millions of people including 6 million Jews were killed including some relatives of mine.There's no valid "opposing" perspective.Saying one exists is like spitting on the graves of those who died.
NEW: A school administrator in Southlake, Texas, advised teachers last week that if they have a book about the Holocaust in their classroom, they should also have a book with an "opposing" perspective.
Listen to the audio recording obtained by
@NBCNews
:
Just ran into
@BilldeBlasio
at the Nets vs Celtics. He said he was going to be running… back to his seats :). Was great to meet him and introduce myself.
Great to see and hear
@RitchieTorres
speak at my shul(
@HIRBayit
), impressive as always. Looking forward to many years of partnership between him and the Riverdale Jewish Community.
Excited to announce that
@AndrewYang
will be attending the 2021 Interfaith Youth Mayoral Town-Hall on May 3rd at 7:30! Register for the forum and submit questions for Andrew or any other candidate - . This will be a very unique event that you can't miss!
Last night was a difficult night for me and my fellow Jewish students at Binghamton University. The Student Association (SA) Congress passed a BDS resolution which is anti-Israel and antisemitic.
The Jewish community will remain united and strong despite this harmful action.
Hosted a very successful voter registration drive
@SARHighSchool
yesterday. We were able to register and pre-register over 80 students. If you are not registered make sure to do so soon!
I am, along with the Riverdale Jewish community, devastated by the news of the horrible fire in the Bronx which killed 19 people. SAR is raising funds to help the victims of this tragedy which you can donate to by using the message "Bronx Fire Fund" to .
It’s always fun running into members of congress when walking the streets of Jerusalem. Was great meeting
@RepMikeLawler
and
@RepMoskowitz
and having the chance to chat for a few minutes.
Good to see some bipartisanship in action, especially regarding support for Israel.
It was great to see my councilman,
@EricDinowitzNYC
, and fellow Bronx CM’s
@mvelaznyc
,
@KevinCRiley
and
@althea4theBX
, when they visited the western wall on the
@JCRCNY
city council study tour. Israel is a very special place and it’s amazing to see NYC electeds experiencing it.
A perk of being in the old city is that you run into many people who are visiting the area including public officials.
It was an honor to meet
@USAmbIsrael
when I was walking to my dorm and quickly say hello and thank him for the work he is doing to further US-Israel relations.
Yesterday was very memorable. Beyond grateful to be invited to the
@WhiteHouse
to celebrate Jewish Heritage Month. It was meaningful to hear
@POTUS
+
@SecondGentleman
talk about their commitment to supporting Jews and Israel and great to see and meet so many friends and leaders.
NEW; On Monday, May 3rd from 7:30 - 9:00, there will be an Interfaith Youth NYC Mayoral Forum where Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, and other students of faith will have a chance to ask the attending Mayoral candidates questions pertaining to our lives as NYC's religious youth. (1/4)
Tomorow morning will be the first morning that Cuomo is not in elected office since I was 2. Tomorrow will be the first day in over 14 years that Cuomo won’t have an office in Albany. Since I moved to New York Cuomo has been the governor every day. (2/7)
Much has transpired since this interaction about 2 months ago, but I’ll always cherish the opportunity to meet
@POTUS
and be an eyewitness to his dedication to public service and care for all those he met, worked with and served.
I admire his leadership.
Thank you
@JoeBiden
.
No one should be given the opportunity to stay in the same executive position for more than 8 years in a row. We also need to ensure that there are more blockades and checks/balances in place to prevent someone with behaviors like he exhibited to be in office.
Horrific news of terror in Jerusalem where I am living for the year.(I am thank god okay.)
Canadian teenager Aryeh Shechopek z”l was tragically murdered and many other were injured.
Angered to see that Jews and our homeland are under constant attack.
Especially at a time of multiple challenges to our state and to our nation. It’s going to be exciting to see change and I hope it ends up being positive for our state as a whole and for the people who are suffering right now.
That concludes my thread/thoughts for now.
Very excited to announce that the podcast I am starting with
@LeoGreenbergNY
-NYC Young Politicos podcast- is finally here. Please listen to our first episode where we discuss the new Mayor, City Council, and the issues facing NYC. Please comment + share!
Thank you
@GovKathyHochul
for for joining thousands of New Yorkers to once again show your consistent support for the Jewish people and the state of Israel.
100 days ago, Hamas launched a brutal attack on Israel, killing more than 1,200 innocent souls and taking nearly 250 hostages captive. Today we mark this solemn occasion:
In addition, it’s important to make clear that there are many goodhearted and hard-working individuals whose goal was to improve this state. However, NY state rules allowed him to stay in power for far too long and abuse the power given to him by the people of the Empire State.
A little life update: I am officially a
@binghamtonu
student where I’ll be for the next few years. If for some reason you are ever in the area, give me a shout!
I joined
@VotersTomorrow
last year back when VOT was a new + small organization. It is incredible to see the work they have done to help the democrats in the midterms since I (unfortunately) left. Kudos to my colleagues
@jackplobel
,
@santiagomayer_
,
@JustinMeszler
, and others.
It was great to meet up with the one and only
@jacobkornbluh
in the old city this morning and have him speak to my morning shiur(class) at
@YeshivatOrayta
.
My rapid test came back positive for COVID :( Hopefully, PCR is negative so I can salvage my vacation. Luckily, my symptoms are currently not terrible.
Guess I'll have to watch some movies/shows, write/record some more songs, and maybe finally start my politics podcast.
Thank you to our next mayor,
@ericadamsfornyc
for sharing this article and some of my words! I hope to be able to play some part, wether big or small(👀👀👀), in the next administration and help ensure that young people of all faiths and ethnicities can have their voices heard!
"Nevertheless, Saenger believes young people can certainly play a large role in what’s likely the incoming administration — particularly when it comes to accountability and policies that impact young people"
You're absolutely right,
@EytanSaenger
!
Check out my Op-Ed that I wrote for
@AJCGlobal
that was just published in the
@bronxtimes
about our advocacy day in Albany, Holocaust education, antisemitism on colleges and more.
How are we doing teaching about antisemitism? Ask your kids” – Bronx Times
I am not old enough to remember what the state was like before he came into power. I think it is important to acknowledge that his administration did have some achievements and that they did multiple positive things for our state. (3/7)
In this week's episode,
@LeoGreenbergNY
and I have a wide-ranging discussion with
@RitchieTorres
about topics ranging from public safety and racial justice, Israel, polarization, youth engagement, and more!
Give a listen:
On Tuesday, I am putting my school obligations aside to join thousands from across the country in coming out to the national mall in Washington, DC to March for Israel, March against antisemitism and March to free the hostages.
Hope to see you there!
Looking ahead, I am excited to have Governor Hochul(wow that had a nice ring to it:) and bring in a new era of leadership in NYC/NY State with Gov Hochul leading the state and Mayor Adams, who I’ve personally met and spoken to...
Proud to be at the
@CelebrateIsrael
parade today to support Israeli and Jewish communities in New York and beyond.
While we're seeing record levels of antisemitism, it’s critical that we stand together in support of our Jewish neighbors and united against hate of any kind.
There are no excuses which can justify a tweet such as this one which is so obviously and disgustingly antisemitic.
There are many ways to disagree with the policies of a politician without coming anywhere close to being antisemitic or racist.
This should be condemned by all.
So far I've gotten a bunch of calls and texts from different campaigns about attending their watch parties tomorrow night but I have to say that it's impressive that
@elisacresponyc
herself is sending out texts for
@Dianne4NYC
's one and actually responded to mine, which I admire!
Large turnout at the rally organized by the riverdale Jewish Community Partnership outside the Russian Mission in Riverdale to call for an end to the war and Russian aggression and to stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine who are being attacked.
Since it appears that almost every elected official in NYC/NY is in PR for Somos, is there a designated survivor type person in case something were to go wrong?
Powerful to be among over 1000 New Yorkers to mark the 150+ days that the hostages have been held in Gaza and call for their release. Powerfully to hear from freed hostage Karen Munder, family members of hostages and Jewish + elected leaders.
#BringThemAllHomeNow
I had a wonderful time marching in the
@CelebrateIsrael
parade.
The new NY15 includes Riverdale’s own
@SARacademy
, whose students were marching in the parade.
Looking forward to representing Riverdale!
A sea of Israeli flags at the mass protests in the center of Jerusalem against the judicial overhaul which Bibi and his government are trying to pass.
The message here is clear: A fervent love for their country and homeland coupled with deep concern of the current direction.
Was great to meet
@CarlHeastie
, and then take his podium momentarily afterwards. Who knows maybe my name will be up there one day 😉. Thanks to my assemblyman
@JeffreyDinowitz
for showing me inside the assembly.
If you would like to listen to what
@AndrewYang
had to say to us a few weeks ago watch here - . He talks about his vision for NY's recovery within 2 years and how to address rising crime.
Next, I'd like to thank
@AndrewYang
/
@YangforNY
for joining us! we appreciated hearing your perspective as an entrepreneur and your ideas if elected as mayor and your support for youth! Special thanks to
@chriscoffeytalk
/
@DavidSchwartz48
for their help! -
After years of hard work by
@nily
and
@AnnaMKaplan
and hours of advocacy from Jewish groups(which I had the privilege of participating in during my time with
@AJCGlobal
), it is great to see the holocaust education bill finally getting signed by
@GovKathyHochul
.
#NeverForget
We will never forget the horrors of the Holocaust and the memories of six million Jews who perished at the hands of the Nazi regime.
Today I was joined by survivors and legislators to sign new laws to strengthen Holocaust education in our schools and cultural institutions.
I needed to watch this clip multiple times to fully process the absurdity of what they were saying.
That fact that people felt comfortable spewing such horrible lies and hateful speech, especially in a public forum is shocking and horrifying.
This is terrible for society.
Last night the Oakland City Council voted on a resolution to call for a ceasefire.
A city council member tried to insert language condemning Hamas.
This was the reaction…
"Are you ok?, "Is there anything we can do to help"
These texts from
@mvelaznyc
were among the first things I saw on my phone after the horror of 10/7 and speaks volumes about who she is.
We need Marjorie, not someone who welcomes antisemites like
@KristyforNY
in the council.
My opponent
@KristyforNY
is unapologetically campaigning with antisemites and Proud Boys.
🧵 THREAD 🧵
After
@nypost
caught Kristy’s ally referring to Black and Latino lawmakers with disgusting tropes about minorities being controlled by Jews, she hasn’t even denounced the
It turns out I have a trip with my yeshiva this week to the desert without our phones so I won’t be able to see the election results until Thursday night. This will be a fun test of controlling my curiosity + impatience
Was great to welcome
@NewYorkStateAG
’s Director of Jewish outreach + intergovernmental affairs,
@YLefkowitz
, for a visit to
@binghamtonu
to meet Jewish leaders on campus as well as other officials. Thank you
@TishJames
for supporting students and Jewish communities across NYS.
An
@NYWFP
volunteer texted me that a Thursday phonebank for council candidates was canceled so I decided to ask if there were any volunteer events (phonebanks) for the mayoral race, the response was interesting and indicates that WFP may not be investing in the race anymore
It was great to see two big supporters of Israel and strong voices in the fight against antisemitism
@nily
and
@AnnaMKaplan
at the
@CelebrateIsrael
parade earlier. Hopefully their Holocaust education bill will finally get passed soon!!
Had a great time walking and talking with
@ericadamsfornyc
yesterday! It was very good to meet him in person and talk with him about the importance for young people to get involved with their communities and be politically engaged starting at a young age!
Thank you to
@bensigel
for being such an amazing role model throughout your whole campaign, thank you for always taking time out of your busy schedule to join our weekly fellow's meetings and listening to what we had to say about the various policy proposals you were releasing.
I like my
#VOTE
mask from
@Center4Politics
, no need to explain, just read it! Shout out to
@LarrySabato
,
@kkondik
and
@JMilesColeman
4 all the work they are doing this important election to inform the public everything that’s happening in all the big races and how they r looking
I had a great time at
@NYCMayor
’s Jewish heritage celebration last night! It was wonderful to see so many different members of NYC’s diverse Jewish community in attendance!
Just came back from
@monroecollegeNY
where I was helping deliver/sort donations for victims of the
#Bronxfire
Heartwarming to see how many people are helping out.
They now have enough donations of items(as seen below) but ppl can donate here.
NEW: The latest edition of the EPG
@SubstackInc
is out! Check out this edition about young candidates running for office in New York elections next week and the age of our elected officials as a whole.
I will always flag instances of antisemitism or other forms of hatred to elected officials or other individuals with a platform.
I am thankful to know an elected official like
@RitchieTorres
who will consistently call out antisemitism and other forms of hatred when he see it.
The recent rise in antisemitism and hatred towards jews who are going about their everyday lives is extremely concerning. Not only for me as a PROUD Jew but also as a New Yorker who wants to be able to live in a city without hatred and violence. (1/n) 🧵🧵
Absolutely absurd that in 2023 there are white supremacist groups planning for a day of hate and antisemitism this upcoming Shabbat. Very concerned for the safety of Jews across the US, and hoping that I don’t have to read about any incidents. This should be condemned by all.
Tomorow is the election: I have gotten a ton more involved in politics through this cycle of NYC municipal elections and through meeting and becoming close with many candidates + electeds so I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the various races + election as a whole(1/?)
Had the chance to stop by a protest in Jerusalem against the proposed judicial reforms. It was great to witness and be part of democracy in action amidst the impending reforms that could threatens the democratic process.
