Jumping back into Twitter just to note that I have found the analysis of @BeirutCalling @KimGhattas and @SayighYezid as well as the reporting of @timourazhari to have been invaluable in recent weeks. They are writing what I am reading.

The news out of Israel has been horrific, and heart-breaking, while this website seems to amplify the worst voices and opinions. But I wanted to pass this story along because I got to know Yair Golan a while back, and this is both inspiring and 100% consistent with his character.
If you don't live in Israel or consume Israeli media, you don't know who Yair Golan is. He is a 61-year-old retired Major General in the Israel army and a former parliament MP. Spend a minute to read this story. Yesterday, when IDF and the police were in complete chaos, Golan put on his old uniform, took his weapon, and drove into the war zone multiple times to rescue civilians under fire. He rescued two young adults hiding under a bush after 260 of their friends were murdered at an outdoor party. He answered a call from a journalist that his son was hiding under fire and simply said, "Give me his location, and I will bring him back home." An hour later, the son called his father from Golan's car. Golan collected a small crew and went in and out of the war zone, rescuing dozens of people while exchanging fire with Hamas terrorists. He is 61, he could have stayed home, but he chose to risk his life for people he does not know. Golan is one of the strongest voices from the Israeli left and was constantly attacked by the right wing in Israel. But when the time came, he was first fighting the barbaric attack. The same brain wiring that supports peace, is often the same wiring that drives people to do the right thing. A true hero.

This guy and his campaigns are already a line item in my family’s monthly budget. The two of us worked in adjoining cubicles for a year at @DeptofDefense, have been friends for more than a decade, and y’all, it’s just really hard to think of a better human being.
After calls to resign, Senator Menendez said “I am not going anywhere.” As a result, I feel compelled to run against him. Not something I expected to do, but NJ deserves better. We cannot jeopardize the Senate or compromise our integrity. Please join me:

@RyanDB92 @TheReloadSite Hahaha. Relatedly, there’s admittedly no escaping the fact that most modern rifle design goes back to military innovation and usage. There’s a pretty direct line between the 19th C. needle gun and my Tikka today. Shotguns and their evolution are a different and more “civilian”.

@RyanDB92 @StephenGutowski @TheReloadSite It’s probably more accurate to say there are several unhealthy gun cultures in the US (as well as several *healthy* gun cultures) and that the unhealthy gun culture in DC is different from the unhealthy gun culture that seems to precipitate mass shootings elsewhere.

@RyanDB92 @TheReloadSite Did I say this? Gah, I need to listen to the podcast. If I said this, I was perhaps contrasting it with a 22LR rimfire to argue why an AR chambered in .223 is different than, say, a Ruger 10/22. Sorry for the confusion. To be clear, I wouldn’t hunt deer with a .223!

Love to see East Tennesseans recognized for doing East Tennessee things. (The fact that he’s from le Château Nooga is even better.)
What a great day unveiling #MedalofHonor recipient CPT (Ret.) Larry Taylor's name in the Hall of Heroes. This is a proud day for the @USArmy and I was happy to share it with CPT Taylor and his family. Congratulations!
