We thank you for working with us this morning. At 10:15, the SPP lifted the current order and intermittent outages have been suspended at this time. Power should be coming back online soon for those impacted. We thank you for conserving energy and ask that you continue to do so.
I’d tweet about Patrick Mahomes throwing a 20-yard behind the back pass to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, but you’d probably want video, which we aren’t allowed to shoot during this period. So I’ll hold off.
It's been a rough day, but we thank you for sticking with us and our crews as we restore power throughout our service area. There were 270,000 customers without power at some point today. We're down to about 5,000.

🚨 OUTAGE UPDATE 🚨
As of 7 a.m., we have about 100,000 Evergy customers without power in our service area. More than 186,000 Evergy customers lost power as Friday’s storm and high winds moved across Kansas and Missouri.
OPPD sent four crews to assist
@evergypower
in KS w/ power restoration after a strong storm w/ 100mph winds knocked out power to 186k customers in Kansas & Missouri late Friday. The crews are working in Topeka today & will then head to the KC area.
Did you know that Evergy’s produced more than 70 million megawatt hours of wind energy? What does that mean? That’s enough electricity to power peak usage (game time) at Arrowhead Stadium for more than 800 straight years.

From Carol in Topeka: "Our neighborhoods power went out at 5:45 this morning. With sub-zero temperatures predicted for the next two days, the timing couldn't have been worse. Evergy was here at 7:30 and had everybody's power back on by 10:45."
Storms including winds between 80-100 mph have caused more than 130,000 outages in Evergy’s service area as of 4:30 p.m. with the metro areas of Kansas City, Topeka and Lawrence impacted most.
A huge thank you to all of our peers who traveled hundreds of miles to help us restore power for customers, especially the crews from the north,

OPPD crews are headed to the Kansas City metro area after finishing power restoration for
@evergypower
customers in Topeka, KS. Less than 9,000 customers are without power in the KC metro area after a strong Friday storm knocked out power to 180k.
Thankfully, Evergy wasn't required to implement temporary power outages overnight. This morning we remain in a critical period and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) remains at Energy Emergency Alert Level 2 as extended cold temperatures continue to strain the regional power grid.
The (SPP) has increased to an Energy Emergency Alert Level 2 as cold temperatures continue to strain the regional power grid. Conditions make additional controlled, temporary emergency electricity reductions a strong possibility from around 12am through 11am Wednesday morning.
💚 💙 Good news! SPP has downgraded the emergency to a Level 1, which means the threat of required temporary emergency power outages is reduced. However, we still continue to urge all homes and businesses to conserve electricity today. 💚 💙
While all customers impacted have been restored, we may be asked to implement additional brief power interruptions in the coming the days. We encourage all customers to continue conserving energy.
🚨 5:30 p.m. OUTAGE UPDATE 🚨
By 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, 75 percent of customers affected by the Friday afternoon thunderstorms across our service area have had power restored.
💡THREAD: Many of you all are asking us about electricity rates increasing next month. There’s a lot of confusion in our comments on social accounts about this, so let us dispel the myths and give you the facts. 1/
Along with the other states in the region, we've implemented temporary emergency outages today to help avoid larger uncontrolled and extended power outages throughout the region per the request of the SPP. Thank you for doing your part to help the grid for the entire region.
Throughout the Midwest, extreme weather conditions are creating high demand for electricity & stress on power production. Regional power management officials are asking all customers to conserve energy to avoid potential widespread outages.
We want to take time to answer questions about events from recent days.
💡 How do you decide which areas will have the emergency outages?
💡 Why can’t you notify people in advance of the emergency outage?
💡How come the outages last longer than what you said they would? 1/

Effective at 1:15 p.m. CT, SPP has declared an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 1 for its entire 14-state balancing authority area.
Generation is currently sufficient to serve system-wide demand across the region and to fully satisfy operating reserve requirements.
We greatly appreciate you and we greatly appreciate the people who power our region. We're still asking that you conserve energy as much as possible so we can get through this together.
If you need emergency assistance you can call 2-1-1 from anywhere in the Evergy service area. When you call you can get help finding emergency resources like warming centers, food, shelter or clothing. If you are in immediate danger please call 9-1-1.
The SPP has said we may be asked to implement temporary power outage events tonight and tomorrow morning. Between 8 p.m. tonight and Wednesday morning our service area is at risk for additional outages.

Storms overnight caused more than 25,000 outages in Evergy's service area with Manhattan and Marysville being the most impacted. Crews went to work overnight, making tremendous progress as they assessed damage, cleared debris and repaired equipment.

Storms overnight caused more than 75,000 outages in Evergy's service area, primarily in the Kansas City metro. The storm moved slowly through the area and did extensive damage. Crews are working and have restored power to more than 25% of customers affected.
We truly appreciate your patience and understanding. We’re grateful to our crews who are working diligently and safely to restore power each Evergy customer. We are continuing to reach out to neighboring utilities to bring in any available crews to help speed restoration.

We know these are tough times for so many people in our communities. We have suspended disconnections for nonpayment through March 1 as a result of the pandemic, winter season and upcoming changes to our customer billing systems.
In Missouri and Kansas, where electricity is regulated, our electric rates are set very differently than in Texas, which is a deregulated state. Commissions may work with utilities to spread unexpected higher costs over a longer period to help minimize the impact on customers. 7/

Current conditions make additional controlled, temporary emergency electricity reductions a strong possibility from around midnight through 11 am Wednesday morning. As a result, Evergy remains on standby in the event that the SPP calls for additional emergency power outages.
There’s still extreme stress on the SPP system caused by the continued unprecedented cold weather. Power plants throughout the region have been running at capacity for long periods.
