Dear future college freshmen and baseball players. It’s the last weekend of the regular season. Our top statistical hitter at .a 417 BA had one hit in fall. You will struggle. College baseball is hard. It will be about how you respond to the struggle.

Gonna hurt like hell when these guys (and our other seniors) leave us in three short months. Absolute program builders. Five years with these guys. They kept showing up when the program was at one of its lowest points five years ago. Grateful they stuck w/me and the program.

I have a genuine concern for this next generation of athletes. You do a lot of figuring out of who you are from 15-23. Some of that identity gets tied to the game. Know that you're so much more than JUST an athlete. No matter the sport you play, the game doesn’t define your worth.

The phrase dog gets thrown around quite a bit nowadays. Our 30+ year veteran assistant coach, who had hip surgery in November, was out working the hula-ho today. That’s a dog with a whole lot of CARE right there. I hope our guys realize how lucky WE are to have this guy.

As a kid my brothers and I would get upset with my Dad for taking us to baseball practice so early. 9-10 year old -30 minutes early. Every time. 18 years later. I’ve still not showed up late to anything. Thanks Dad.

Friend of mine told me their kids went to a “invite” only showcase for a SMALL fee of $500. It’s a great marketing scheme- add “select”maybe a “invite only”. Ppl will for sure pay. Parents they’re stealing from you! There are ways to get your kids seen that don’t cost $500.

Today a kid I had in travel ball from 2013 sent me a picture of a LWC shirt he bought from our summer fundraiser. In coaching it feels like critiques are everywhere. The reality is you have just as many people that want to see you succeed. Sometimes they’re just not as loud.

At 16 I took hitting lessons from a Triple A infielder with the Marlins. Ten years later, he’s a Division One Head Coach & I’m a NAIA assistant. I see him at a showcase, “I want my money back for those lessons, I ended up being a PO”. He did not think it was funny.
