@JustinS08818177 @HowThingsWork_ Up north, our pipes occasionally freeze. Usually below 20f, unprotected pipes start to freeze quickly. We just open the faucet to relieve pressure. -20f guys further up north pipes freeze ALL the time. They don’t worry about pipes failing. A little hot water and salt.

@JustinS08818177 @HowThingsWork_ Lol. I get your skill set, but it’s more of a physics thing here. Ice expands, as long as it has somewhere to go.. it’s fine. The problem is when it has no where to go. Copper pipes can take up to 1000psi before failure, normal water pressure is under 100 psi.

@JustinS08818177 @HowThingsWork_ It takes a lot to burst the pipes. Like the whole pipe needs to be frozen with the pressure induced from thawing having no where to go other than through the pipe. A small frozen piece isn’t going to do any of that.

@dalsault @HowThingsWork_ Not really, the spot that has potential to burst is being cut, and usually the pressure starts when the pipes thaw. The installed valve has space to relieve that pressure now.
