This is a disingenuous rewriting of history to suit a narrative. Letters were typically written when a spouse was away for a long time, not for a 24hr gap in communication. Yes, phones "should" make it easier, but it's arguably made it worse by providing 24/7 access to something which reduces its perceived value. Besides if a 24hr window is all it takes for a proof of love to expire, that's a prolonged hookup not a relationship.

If you feel the need to reach out, then do so, even if you've had to initiate multiple times in a row. But if you ever find yourself thinking about the person but staring at your phone waiting to be texted, then you're doing something wrong.

This has nothing to do with selfishness, neither was the tweet implying in any way that things were perfect back then. Relationships need space to breathe and time to miss each other. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. It's not the quantity of attention that matters but the quality of it. The less you have access to something, the more you value and appreciate it when you get it.
