Last night I was reflecting on my

newbies out there just know the ups and downs are universal & it’s all going to be ok…

My first (first author) paper has been published open access today! We present a new glacial geomorphological map covering a ~50,000km2 area of the former

, located between 44 and 46°S.

Today is a good day, because today I get to look back at field photos and make pretty figures of
#glaciallandforms
.😌
#Patagonia
really does possess some of the most immaculate glacial geomorphology in the world, although I may be biased....🤔

Journey is underway to Vienna for

En route to Melbourne where I will be joining
@MonashEAE
as a postdoc for the next 2 years (finally 😂!).
Looking forward to starting work with
@AMacGlac
and colleagues on glaciers and cosmo and all sorts of exciting things.
I guess this is goodbye UK for a while… bye!
Fieldwork flights are booked! Fingers crossed that a second Patagonian field season goes ahead in 2022!🤞Looking forward to (hopefully) doing some sedimentology and drone surveys with
@AntarcticGlacie
.

After a rocky start we have come to the end of a fast-paced but very successful field season in
#Patagonia
! Big thanks to my supervisors including my fab field companion
@AntarcticGlacie
! Lots of exciting new data coming soon...

#Melbourneweather
has gone from 36 degrees and sunny to pummelling down a hail storm (with hail the size of a bottle cap) + bringing down many trees across campus... 👀🌩️☂️
Enjoyed presenting yesterday AM in Quaternary glacier-climate dynamics in mid/high latitudes of the SH + nice discussions.
Today, I am very (very) much enjoying a birthday in Rome! Just happens to fall on our day off (how convenient)…😎
@InquaRoma2023
has been good so far…
I miss fieldwork & I miss beautiful

Here's some pics from

where we were doing some geomorphological mapping + Cosmo work
Excited to present

, Session: CR1.5, Friday, at
#EGU2021
. Additional materials now uploaded for: 'The Glacial Geomorphology of central-Patagonia (44 – 46°S): glacier dynamics within and beyond the austral Andes'.

Calving into a moraine-dammed proglacial lake on the western edge of the Northern Patagonian Icefield- the San Quintín Glacier. Nice outlines of the (former) piedmont lobe extent.

I will be basking next to our poster from 14:45-16:00 tomorrow and 12:45 – 14:00 on Saturday!! 👊🤓😁
Exposure-age samples have now been processed at
@SUERC1
& are ready to go on the AMS... Thanks to the staff for their help. In particular, a big thank you to Angel Rodés for all the training! Looking forward to getting the data back soon..!

Just got home from a really enjoyable
@QuaternaryRA_UK
field meeting to the West Grampian Highlands. A fab set of sites, and such a lovely group of people! Thanks again to the organisers and contributors for a fantastic few days! 👏
@CQRRHUL
Enjoyed joining the MSc Quaternary Science students from
@CQRRHUL
@RHULGeography
for the Stratigraphy field trip! Sediments spanning the Pliocene & Pleistocene, & a great range of depositional environments inc. former lake basins, river and shallow marine deposits! Just cracking!
Very proud of fellow PhD student
@x_SZhang
who submitted her PhD today at

The Upsala Glacier, located on the eastern flank of the Southern Patagonian Icefield. Calving into Brazo Upsala, Lago Argentino, and fed by a number of smaller tributary glaciers on its western edge. The surface of Upsala is heavily crevassed!

1st year field trip to Wales. Physical geography themes included land-use impacts on the River Wye, water quality & ecosystem health, & understanding environmental change at Hunts Bay. Fab trip, and great group of students and staff!
@CQRRHUL
I think we have just finished our
#EGU24
conference poster exactly 3 weeks before it is due to be presented & this is completely unheard of in the history of my entire existence... 🤯
Drone sedimentology!!! 😆
Ok, so it can’t replace the info you get logging sections in detail, but I think these shots (thanks to some pro flying by
@AntarcticGlacie
) are pretty cool..!
Very helpful few days on the
@QuaternaryRA_UK
@QRAQuatEng
field training course to N Wales.
Thanks to those who took the time to organise, we appreciate it!!!🙏
Now rigorously re-examining all my field sections…
Inspiring
@QuaternaryRA_UK
@QRAQuatEng
meeting in North Wales over the long weekend, exploring the depositional footprint of local and regional glaciation, periglaciation, and associated implications for geoengineering. Great to hear views from both academia and the industry!
I was meant to have my viva today (which has been delayed for perhaps obvious reasons)…
Instead I got a new cast & it’s green! 10 yr old me would have loved this, adult me maybe less so…
After a successful
#Train2EGU
earlier this year, I reckon that
#Train2INQUA
is on the cards for
@InquaRoma2023
next summer...
Q. is how long (& how much £) do we need for London-Rome by 🚄? 🤔
Two experts in their respective fields last night at the LQLs!!
Danielle Schreve on Quaternary carnivores, climate, and dentition (I finally understand what dental microwear is)!

Note the colour change (red-green) as the pH becomes alkaline! 🌈
