Once again, Sally Rooney has proven herself to be the most articulate and clear-headed among us. So many astute and important points made in this piece, which I hope are absorbed widely. This one paragraph struck me, though so much more said within..

Question - if you’re Irish (especially North and North-West) do you use or know of the words ‘yousins’ and ‘themins’? Is it specifically Derry?

On Bloomsday I like to think of Sylvia Beach who single-handedly published Ulysses when no one else would touch it, even when it nearly bankrupted her. I love this video of her, so joyful in her cute St Brigid’s pin.

Every time I see Gregg Wallace's face I remember reading that on divorcing one of his many wives, he returned to pick up his belongings from their house and only took his collection of porn magazines that he had stashed in the basement.

I’ve always had ‘that’ feeling about Wallace without having anything tangible to pin it on but having read this I can say with clarity and certainty the man is a self-centred arsehole of the highest order.

Lyra McKee is not collateral damage and it’s important that the backslide in the peace process is acknowledged outside our own community. Open your eyes and look at this because it’s not going to go away anytime soon. This didn’t happen in a vacuum.

@AITA_reddit YTA but I can sympathise. Give the kid a chance, he didn't do anything wrong and you were the only father he knew. It's complicated but building a relationship with him could lead to some personal healing for both of you.

God forbid that a contemporary museum in Ireland might represent art that reflects our society beyond straight white men and their very important concerns🙀 Please also note that every single person referenced within this article is a white man.

James McDaid of McDaid’s Wine Bar in Ramelton has died. If you were ever lucky enough to stumble through his door you will know how unique he was. A man who created an atmosphere that could have been from any time or any place, that just happened to be right here in Donegal.

@thebeauttruth She can hold a full fifteen minute monologue on what good potatoes are in season, where they come from and where is selling them. She’ll tell you anecdotes about childhood potatoes if you interrupt her so you have to wait until she’s done.

I had a dream last night that I hugged Sinéad O’Connor and rubbed a very large lemon slice on her bare back. It was a great moment and I assume a good omen of some sort.

Didn’t have to wait long! Impressive postage turnaround - especially seeing as I addressed it to my old house (in the same town). Already shirking my editing duties to dive in.

Sure didn't I go and get into Winter Papers this year? Looking forward to feeling the heft of it and reading all the starry contributions. Thank you to Kevin and Olivia for including my essay!

Pausing my twitter embargo to tell you all to listen to last night's Cillian Murphy Show - for all the great music, but also my poem 'Bradycardic Response' (of which I asked my brother the doctor how to pronounce after it had already been recorded. Oops).

There are a lot of wild (imo) takes in this thread. Of course writers need editors! If you don’t want your work to be edited, or think it doesn’t need to be edited, then I suspect you’re probably not very good.

Editors aren't intrinsic to writing. They're just an artifact of how the publishing business works.
