I should clarify that she did get paid time off -- she apparently wanted to only take six weeks and then needed more b/c of medical issues, then it just clicked for her that most women don't have that luxury.

I got my first vax today and was surprised by how awesome the whole setup was at the vaccination site. National guard was friendly and so helpful in ferrying folks through the process. Felt hopeful and patriotic!

U cannot understate what this bill means. A nail in the coffin to "trickle down" economics. Huge for low-wage earners, who are primarily women and women of color. The relief actually goes to the people who need it, not to rich folks who might offer up crumbs to the masses.

We tend to think history was inevitable: Of course women got equal rights. But when RBG was starting out as a litigator at the ACLU, women couldn't have credit cards or mortgages. They were the property of husbands & fathers. She fought to end this horror. It wasn't inevitable.

Something to think about: "Care economy" is infrastructure. Just like you need a highway or train to get to work, you also need a system in place to help care for children. It's not only parents who need this infrastructure. Employers learned this lesson in the pandemic.
