What Big Bird does in this clip is genuinely impressive from a technical standpoint, and I really wish the FGC understood how objectively precise you have to be to do something like this. We downplay ourselves way too harshly for all the objectively difficult things we do.

Capcom famously "removed" this combo by "buffing" Dan so that he will randomly throw an "improved" fireball that knocks the opponent down.
I use air quotes because ofc Dan is the character who gets nerfed via buff to lose a genuinely broken combo, that loveable goofball!

It's a reference to fighting game tournament structure. If a tournament has say, 256 players, it will be split into smaller groups we call pools. So anyone who fails to make it out of those smaller groups is said to have "drowned in pools"

Heading back to Japan today. This was my first tournament in Milwaukee, but it was a good one. The event ran smoothly and there was no monitor lag. The city is beautiful, and the climate pleasant. I was the only player who came in from Japan, but I hope more show up next year.

Your reward for making it out of pools at Evo (the biggest SF6 tournament ever), will be to qualify for the 2nd biggest SF6 tournament ever, only this time it's filled with ONLY the best players in the building.
That is badass.
Evo has to run 256 pools of 24 people, and run each of those pools down to 3 or 4 players in 2 hours.
Then they have to take those 768 or 1024 qualifiers and run a tournament all the way down to 6.
And they have to do that in 2 days.
And they have to run 7 other brackets too.

I don't think SF6 is a bad game, it just isn't meant to be played online. Windows are too small, the margin of error is too narrow to trust with any netcode.
