Inflation and taxation are not necessarily the only two choices the government has, and framing them as such oversimplifies economic realities. First, taxation is not inherently the βlesser evil.β While it provides the government with revenue, excessive or poorly structured taxation can stifle economic growth, discourage investment, and disproportionately burden low-income earners and small businesses. But I have faith Mr Taiwo has thought this through and came up with best possible approach to balance the taxation system . However the assumption that taxation is always a better option than inflation ignores the fact that an overtaxed economy can lead to reduced productivity and economic stagnation in the long run . Second, inflation is not always a direct result of government spending or borrowing, which certainly Nigeria has big spending problem and with the rate at which we borrow only God knows . Other factorsβsuch as global supply chain disruptions, monetary policy missteps, and external economic shocksβcan drive inflation. Moreover a controlled inflation (at moderate levels) is often seen as a necessary part of economic growth, whereas overtaxation can create long-term structural inefficiencies. Either way we choose to go there is always something installed for the citizens .
