After my impressions back in June, I reviewed Valorant on PS5 for
@pushsquare
, which is still a fantastic competitive shooter unlike anything else on the platform.
My review:
JOB UPDATE: I'm super excited to announce that I am now the Guides Editor over at
@TheLoadout
.
It has been a blast building the guides team over the last year or so and am super thankful to
@_JessWells
and
@JamieHore
for the opportunities and letting me continue to do so!
I reviewed Afterparty (
@AfterpartyGame
) from
@nightschoolers
and it is absolutely fantastic.
It is one of the funniest games I have ever played and I was laughing out loud and smiling throughout.
Everyone should play it.

So, anyone hiring an Editor, or writer, or SEO related role within games or outside of it. My Guides Editor role at
@TheLoadout
is at risk of redundancy before the end of December.
I have several years of content writing, planning, SEO work, and more. RTs would be appreciated.
One of the coolest things that any developer is doing right now is
@demagog_studio
building out a whole universe of interconnected games.
Golf Club Wasteland is amazing and The Cub and Highwater are expanding upon the world they built. Genuinely impressive and handled well.
Does anyone who follows me and freelances be interested in some guide work for a few February 2022 titles, mainly Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, or Sifu.
If intrigued, send me a DM and I'd be happy to go into more detail.
Retweeting for visibility and I will say while I did get my promotion while at Network N, it was delayed many times and I did an editor role on a writer salary for 6-7 months and I never really got an answer as to why that was. In hindsight I should have pushed for an answer more
This is my old role. That I literally just left. I was making a few thousand less than this. I was not called a senior writer. I worked from 4 to midnight and had to do the same amount as every other news writer who had the support of a team and editors during the day. 1/3
Excited to be helping out
@AndyBrown202
at
@NME_Games
this month with some guide work!
To kick things off if you want to complete the worst challenge in The Finals then here are some ways to land arena carriable hits. The tracking will bug most likely!
Any freelancers with tons of experience with the Call of Duty franchise and can write about the games from across the deacdes confidently?
If that is you, I have some work for you! Feel free to DM or reach out at echo.apsey
@theloadout
.com
If you run a website or just produce content anywhere, there really is no reason not to let writers or former creators know that their work is being deleted in advance. And, to not be told when that would be done or what would be removed especially sucks.
#Maquette
from
@A_i
and
@MaquetteGame
is a fascinating puzzler that is unlike anything else on the market.
It's story is fresh and full of wonder. Both
@BryceDHoward
and
@SethGabel
do a fantastic job voicing Kenzie and Michael.
My review:
I will say having a party and then telling people if they have their jobs or not 18 hours later is maybe not the sequence of events I would suggest companies replicate.
So, seeing as MultiVersus is down, today was my 1 year anniversary at The Loadout, which is just insane as it has flown by.
Never been happier and more motivated in my life. Here's to the next year!
Now that I have finished my first day I can say I have joined
@_JessWells
,
@Jamie_Hore4
, and
@RegulusEXE
over at
@Loadoutgg
as a Staff Writer.
I am excited to get writing and reporting, helping the team's console coverage, with a bit of Esports here and there as well.🥳
Excited to be reviewing Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League for
@NME_Games
. Only just got access today so keep your eyes peeled in the coming days!
Had my hopes up for it, despite the rough ride to launch so looking forward to seeing the full thing.
So, if you have freelanced for
@TheLoadout
since it launched in 2019 you should try and go back and find your work and save it because hardly anyone knows what is actually being deleted.
Anyone who wrote guides should especially do this, now the section is effectively dead.
Love my job and have managed to get extremely lucky over the last five years, but sometimes its just so exhausting watching other places crumble as they layoff whole teams.
Makes you paranoid when the Grim Reaper is going to show up on your doorstep
I reviewed
#Othercide
from
@LightbulbCrew
and
@FocusHome
. It is the first tactical RPG I have truly fallen in love with. A grotesque and gothic wonder that has a lot of neat mechanics beneath the surface.
My full review:
For the last two and a half weeks I have been playing
#LikeADragonInfiniteWealth
and it is quite simply a masterclass. If I was reviewing it would be my 4th ever 10/10.
It is packed full of stuff to do that is exciting, thrilling, hilarious, and fun. I am nowhere near finished.
I owe a lot to Jess who has helped me and guided me through so much since I joined The Loadout and built the guides team over the last year.
She has supported me and helped me in more ways than I can count.
It's sad to see her leave us, but she'll smash the next role.
I have some news: next week will be my last as Editor of
@TheLoadout
.
But don’t worry, I’m not going far - I’m going to be one of two Group Editors at Network N Media! 🎉
After two and a half years I have made the decision to leave PlayStation Universe
@PSUdotcom
. My final day will be July 11, 2021.
Writing for the website, alongside
@Bitsnark
and
@MikeHarradence
and the wider team has been an absolute joy.
To fully complete Dying Light 2 Stay Human, you'll need at least 500 hours—almost as long as it would take to walk from Warsaw to Madrid!
#DyingLight2
#stayhuman
I reviewed
#YakuzaLikeADragon
and came away very impressed and falling in love with the series.
The narrative and characters are the strongest part here and I loved the way it connected to the Kiryu saga of games. Definitely worth a play.
My review:
The First Tree from
@DavidWehle
came out of nowhere and absolutely blew me away. It is easily on par with games like Journey and Gone Home. A strong must play. Check out my review here for
@PSUdotcom
:
I have been working on some early-game guides for Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth for
@GamerGuides
and absolutely loved working with the whole team. Huge thanks to
@AstraerLavia
,
@Friala777
, and
@jalioralmiel
for the opportunity and edits.

After finishing the campaign, I am having fun with Suicide Squad: KTJL. The performances, writing, and fluidity of combat are great. But, the repetitive open world and uninspired loot have me worried about endgame.
My review in progress for
@NME_Games
:
For
@Techraptor
I reviewed Skull and Bones which is somehow one of the most dreary and dull live-service games I have ever played. Almost a decade of development for a game that has absolutely nothing going for it.
My review:
Are you a guides writer who loves survival games and knows the genre inside and out? Excited for Sons of the Forest?
Send me an email or DM 'joe.apsey
@theloadout
.com'. I may have work for you later this month!
RTs appreciated
Its sort of amazing how Dead Island 2 is not a complete mess. Nine years on from its announcement.
Its not perfect, or really innovative, but its a really solid, gory action game and I have had a lot of fun. You can check out our review from
@_vixx
here:
2023 was the second worst year of my life. A mixture of exhaustion and grief permeated everything.
But, I did find myself in the middle of that tornado and I'm heading into 2024 with more energy and direction than I have felt in a long time. Here's to a better 2024, for everyone
For now though. Check out
@ChrisXMoyse
's fantastic review of the game on
@GamerGuides
. And, you will see some bits and pieces from me on the site later this week too!
#DyingLight2
is a vastly different game from the original, opting to focus on the characters that come about when people experience a devastating event.
But, I found it just as memorable, thanks to the returning excellent combat and parkour.
My review:
I am so far embedded into the PlayStation ecosystem that I can't get out of it. But this is some absolute premium hypocrisy from Sony. They are quite literally doing this right now with COD and a number of other massive games.
I think this is hurting them more than helping.
Sony's requirements to allow MS to acquire Activision:
For CoD for Xbox:
- No extra content that is not available on PlayStation.
- No hardware enhancements better than PlayStation.
- No Xbox Game Pass benefits.
With a spot left open amongst the staff at
@TheLoadout

In light of the layoffs, I may be able to offer up some guide work on upcoming releases this year now, or on Minecraft Legends.
Can't promise anything but if interested, send over some work examples, general areas of interest to me via email: joe.apsey

@thediyora
If they no longer exist, your best bet is of you can remember the URLs.
If the website is still up Opera GX (and I think Opera) browsers let you right click and save the page on your computer as a pdf file easily.
I haven't quite finished it yet cause the end of January got really busy all of a sudden, but Season: A Letter To The Future is phenomenal.
A truly gorgoeus game about reflection, treasuring your memories, and making the most of what you have.
I just played
#Audica
for the first time and it is THE COOLEST experience I have had in VR.
@Harmonix
have created another fantastic Music and Rhythm game.
I have played about five hours of Lies of P and so far it is fascinating. In an alternate universe, this is the kind of soulslike FromSoftware would make next.
It is shaping up to be one of the most exciting soulslikes in years. My preview:

I got the chance to play a chunk of Blue Protocol a few weeks ago and had quite a bit of fun, particularly because it was easier to get into than Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail.
My preview 👇
Unfortunately, Immortals of Aveum is a poorly constructed shooter with some dreadful writing and a by-the-numbers, eye-rolling plot.
It is a shame because the combat and magicplay actually feels great but the rest drags it down
My review 👇
I am immensely proud of my time at The Loadout and building a guides team that established itself as a reliable group that delivered the best for readers, achieving millions of page views and users each month.
Aaron,
@TheCallumSelf
, and
@1UP_Video
are some of the best people!
Kicking off a busy evening for me.
I reviewed
#DarksidersGenesis
and it is utterly fantastic.
@AirshipSyn
have done a great job at bringing the series to a new genre, whilst retaining what makes it so special.
Worth a play. Full review for

Just gonna hop in on the discourse and say that guide writing is the bit of the job that I enjoy the most.
Sure it can become a bit of an SEO hole at times, but nailing key terms and working the algorithm to achieve some excellent results is hugely satisfying for me.
For the past two weeks I dumped more than 100 hours into
#Persona5Royal
and it is a virtually flawless experience, that improves so many areas of the original.
The game is easily one of the best JRPG's on PS4 and playing through it again has mad me love it even more. (1/2)
I regret to inform you Redfall is an absolute mess. Lacking direction and any interesting hook, the game feels vapid and like a rickety remnant of four different games that were prototyped.
It is buggy, looks bad on Series X and feels like COVID heavily impacted development.
I basically update articles for most of my day every day and it is a good day if I get through 15-20 small to medium-sized updates in 7 hours. Can't imagine trying to squeeze 50 into that period.
The Callisto Protocol is easily one of the best games of the year. It is a premium, blockbuster horror thrill ride with intense and challenging gameplay, incredible audio design, epic setpieces, and great characters.
Truly blew me away from beginning to end. 9/10
I'm on guides duty so haven't quite beat it yet, but God of War Ragnarok is a spectacular, bombastic sequel. It amps up the atmosphere and spectacle and has been a thrill ride so far.
It's also got some masterful characters, writing, and ideas of its own thaty help it stand out
I got the chance to review the gorgeous
#Spiritfarer
from
@ThunderLotus
and came away incredibly impressed with how the studio manages to implement new ideas into the management sim genre. It is my favourite indie game of the year.
My Review:
At GDC, we got hands on with first-person sci-fi thriller The Invincible, which takes the world and aesthetic of a 60's novel, plugs it into the Firewatch formula, and lets your decisions shape its ending 🪐
📰Our preview:
#TheInvincible
#Firewatch
I reviewed
#Cloudpunk
and came away really impressed with the writing, characters, and voice acting on offer. A great sci-fi world is built here that is on par with setting's like Blade Runner.

Guardians of the Galaxy is my biggest surprise of the year. An incredibly well-written game that takes the Uncharted formula to space.
An absolute delight and Mantis is the best character.
