π¨ Tanzania Leads the Fight Against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)! πΉπΏπ At the #74ECSAHMC, Tanzania reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating NTDs and integrating interventions into Primary Health Care for sustainability & impact. Key Achievements: β
76% reduction in individuals needing chemotherapy (39.4M fewer people since 2021). β
96% drop in Lymphatic Filariasis β 114 out of 119 endemic districts halted MDA. β
90% decline in Trachoma β 62 out of 69 endemic districts stopped MDA. β
Four-fold increase in domestic funding for NTDs, from $818K in 2021/22 to $6.9M in 2023/24. β

Strengthening Cross-Border Preparedness for Marburg and Ebola Virus Diseases This week, the technical team from the AFE HEPRR MPA Project @ECSA_HC , in collaboration with the Ministries of Health of Tanzania @wizara_afyatz , Burundi, and Uganda, is conducting a cross-border meeting at Kabanga (Tanzania) β Kobero (Burundi) and Mutukula (Tanzania) β Mutukula (Uganda). The objective is to enhance preparedness and response measures for Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) and Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). Key activities include: β Facilitating and conducting orientation sessions with Border Management Committees and Port Health Officers on the Public Health Emergency Contingency Plan (PHECP), including roles and responsibilities in handling suspected MVD cases at border points. β Conducting tabletop simulation exercises to assess the functionality of existing PHECPs. β Identifying gaps in contingency plans and updating them to align with the current MVD outbreak situation. β Training the Border Management Committee and other stakeholders on the use of RING cards for early detection of MVD. Effective cross-border coordination is crucial in mitigating the spread of infectious diseases.
