It is also the most deforested country in the world -- the Haitians have destroyed over 99% of their forestry, and 42/50 Haiti's largest mountains have been stripped of all their forestry. This has had the knock-on effect of causing huge species extinctions in Haiti. Species extinction is estimated to be happening at up to a thousand times the global rate in Haiti, and more than half the species in Haiti are expected to be wiped out in the next ten years.
