Folks, In my latest article for the @firstpost, I write about the mission to recreate an important marker of India's Maritime past - the Stitched Ship. 👇🏻 A brainchild of author, historian & economist @sanjeevsanyal, it has over the past 3 years, with the enthusiastic backing of @MinOfCultureGoI, undiluted support of @indiannavy & dedicated involvement of scientists, Naval architects, shipwrights, boat builders, sailing experts & maritime enthusiasts, reached a significant milestone in construction. In May, I was fortunate to visit the @Hodiinnovations shipyard at Goa where it's being constructed. Here is my report of this magnificent quest. His Ma Tama Kanwar was thrilled to see her only son commissioned as Lt in 2013 and married in March 2019. Karuna and Lt Cdr Dhamendra Singh Chauhan made the most beautiful & very much in love young couple.... but they got just few weeks together before duty and destiny called... This day in 2019, while serving on India's most potent battleship INS Vikramaditya, when a fire broke out in the engine room, Lt Cdr D S Chauhan put aside all thoughts of his beloved wife and mother and swung into action to put out the fire The 21 deck 30 aircraft carrier ship was manned by about 1600 sailors including 110 officers when Braveheart Lt Cdr D S Chauhan led from the front to bring the fire under control... and entered the smoke filled room.... He was hit fatally by a jet of steam during the fire fighting operation 💔 Braveheart Lt Cdr Dhamendra Chauhan gallantly sacrificed his all in line of duty 🙏🇮🇳 Widowed less than two months since marriage to the love of her life, Karuna continues to be brave and in love with her husband. The way Ma & daughter in law remain bonded in pain and pride is indeed inspirational. They have put love & empathy above all in a materialistic world.... huge respect 🙏 Today, 5 years on, please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers 🙏 Never Forget #FreedomIsNotFree Jai Hind Ki Sena 🇮🇳
