True. (For those wondering about the context, this recent article 👇🏻about the Bahria Foundation may be useful https://t.co/zd2xnUT17q)
timesnownews.com
The Bahria Foundation, initially established to support Pakistan Navy personnel, has expanded into a vast commercial empire, benefiting from government contracts and tax exemptions. , World News,...
When corruption is ignored long enough, it becomes culture. #BahriaFoundation doesn’t even bother to fake transparency—it doesn’t need to. Protected by impunity, the Navy pays the price in degraded readiness, sailors pay in hardship, and Pakistan pays in insecurity. #naPakNavy

[PS: The @indiannavy too is closely involved with Deep Ocean Mission. I worked a bit on DOM & other related aspects when posted to NSCS (2012-2020). I had also done a thread earlier on ‘Aquanauts’ which you may like to see👇🏻]
After an astronaut in space, we have an ‘aquanaut’ going down to 5000+ meters. Cdr JP Singh of @indiannavy achieved this on a French submersible in preperation of our own Samudrayan mission (expected 2027). 1/3 @Ravi_MoES

India's deep-sea push isn't just about resources; it's securing our blue economy future. It has strategic dimensions too amid surging global demand for critical minerals + reports of foreign vessels in the region under the pretext of exploration. 6/n

Building on that, in 2016, 🇮🇳 inked a second contract for polymetallic sulphides along the Central Indian Ocean Ridge—another 10,000 sq km, valid till 2031. This is led by the Ministry of Earth Sciences @moesgoi & National Centre for Polar & Ocean Research (NCPOR) @ncaor_goa. 5/n

India isn't new to this game. Back in 2002, we inked our first contract with ISA for polymetallic nodules in the Central Indian Ocean Basin (CIOB)—a 75,000 sq km zone. Extended twice, it runs till 2027. This paved the way for tech & the Deep Ocean Mission. 4/n

Polymetallic nodules are potato-sized rocks on the seabed, packed with precious metals like manganese, cobalt, nickel, & copper (critical for batteries, EVs, & renewables). Deep-sea mining in international waters is governed by the UN's ISA for fair & sustainable access. 3/n

I was lying in a medical facility on a remote island in the South Indian Ocean, recently shipwrecked and rescued. On the 2nd day, the French doctor rushed in:“Is the Prime Minister of India an important man?” I thought it a silly question—until he added: “He is going to call

Yesterday’s Dialogue by @cdf_23 brought together @NITIAayog, @vifindia, @CoalIndiaHQ, & @CEA_India. underscored coal’s role in India's future. Dr. V.K. Saraswat calls for R&D in clean coal tech to power India's energy mix, balancing coal with renewables.

Excellent points. Largely agree with all that is said. The original thread by @stellensatz is also a must read (where he gives a first hand account of LCA & leadership of Dr Kalam). I firmly believe that innovation happens due to individual brilliance organisationally supported.
India’s problem is not only underfunding or underpaying scientists, and not only over-importing due to private lobbies. It is the absence of a competitive, accountable R&D ecosystem. Pay scientists better: yes, but also give them autonomy, competitive labs, and freedom from
