@halvarflake You were right, I was wrong. I did not believe people would stoop to this. This sucks. Not sure whom to vote for in this sad cast of characters. Wish there was someone who doesn’t want Schuldenbremse but also cut wasteful spending.

Most of the time conservatives say we shouldn’t put our trust in fancy degree branding. Rightly so! But when it’s their guy, they go "but he went to Harvard and Princeton (gush) look how smart he is" Be like me. Always believe these degrees to be no better than others.
He’s also a Princeton & Harvard grad and a think tanker, briefly. He’s got a pedigree and a record that suits him to the role, even though he’s also on tv. Given the less desirable alternatives floating around, this is hard to object to.

This sort of statistical malfeasance in order to produce a finding that fits the politics of the day is unfortunately much more common in academia than we like to admit.
A viral fake fact that lots of people believed because it suited the fashionable politics of the day, and which people will now realize was always fake because it suits the fashionable politics of the day

German foreign department @AuswaertigesAmt right now, after repeatedly throwing shade at a US presidential contender (against my consistent and quite public counseling)
Oh my god this is too funny. You have to watch it all the way to the end, I promise you won’t regret it.

And then in the corner there is a German chancellor yelling "Just talk to him. Why don’t you just talk to him? How about I talk to him while he’s hitting you in the face? That will help my election campaign."
Approximately everyone has seen a street fight where the aggressor, still clearly intending to do harm, tries to reach the victim, loudly proclaiming "I just want to talk!". If you think that Russia actually wants to talk, I've got a bridge in Krasnogorsk to sell you.

@halvarflake Sure. I was just pointing out that the FDP paper is not necessarily a good clue. Many people share your views, so we treat the Green paper differently from the FDP one. Both have some truth (Green policies are hard on economy, Schuldenbremse too) but also some partisanship.

@halvarflake I think there are three unsavory trends here: 1. All three Ampel parties were using state resources to put out papers that criticized the others 2. SPD and FDP were strategizing about blowing up coalition 3. German politics is now also like dogs fighting under a rug 😁
