@jasonmohammad @CardiffReferees @BBCRadioWales @BBCSounds We have been researching the issue of abuse towards sport officials around the world over the past few years, and it is a major concern. The impact that abuse has on recuritment and retention shouldn't be underestimated.

Unfortunately, I've heard so many accounts like this over the time we have been researching the abuse of #sportofficials. A volunteer, trying to help so a group of u13 children can play #football is threatened - the behaviour of some individuals in sport never ceases to amaze me

@DrAdamWebster I'm not aware of the withdrawal of labour in other sports in the UK. It's an issue in other sports, and we have looked at that in our research, but the abuse levels are generally lower. There is a reason why UEFA has launched 'Be a referee' across Europe.
