Today is #Fibbonacci day. Thread about travesty of scientific credit sharing. Fibonnacci series was invented by Pingala many hundreds of years before Fibonnacci. Fibonnacci himself states that he translated the series. He called it ‘Indian Series’. Read the thread.

Today, the World celebrates #Fibonacci day. "Fibonacci sequence is nature's code. It is in everything from flowers to storm systems to the shape of galaxies"- they said, crediting Mr. Fibonacci for this "discovery" Yet, they failed to acknowledge their very source. Thread (1)

If you were born in India and are considering a Ph.D. in the USA, you should know this. PhDs had a unique immigration advantage of getting an early green card in the EB1 category. The EB1 green card category is 6 years backlogged now. That advantage is no longer there.

@AravSrinivas And folks with PhD have a real disadvantage. PhDs apply for I140 after 5-7 years of PhD and postdoc, hence delayed priority dates. These managers get EB2 priority dates years earlier. EB1 is the new EB2. Sad reality!

@kaneenikasinha One advise that I find valuable. When facing a big task, don’t think about the entire task. Just think about the first step and do it. Just do the intro slide and rest automatically follows. I use this technique in my long experiments. I make initial buffers and magic happens.

Its amazing to see structural biology of microtubules and its adapter proteins picking up. Congratulations @TheVillaLab for getting the structure of LRRK2. A shortwhile ago @NogalesLab got the structure of tau on MTs. Closing the gap to understand neurodegenerative diseases.

So happy that our paper determining the structure of Parkinson’s Disease linked LRRK2 in situ is now in print. Since I didn’t described it when we posted it to bioRxiv, here it goes.. 1/n

@KaushikLab I have listened to you once in a seminar (SciROI). Believe me even if they didn't give you the title, your talk was just like a keynote. Everyone noticed it. More power to you. 🙏

You come across some papers and you're like "Wow, that's so cool". Oil droplet chasing another droplet. No cellular machinary, no chemo-sensing receptors. Just two plain oil droplets! Wow!

Super excited to share my first co-authored paper just out in @NatureChemistry ! We showed how chemical signaling between dissolving oil droplets can lead to non-reciprocal interactions resembling the chasing behavior between predator and prey:

AI will have greatest impact not in software or advertising, but in healthcare and biotechnology. Accessing healthcare info, reducing healthcare costs, analyzing medical images, designing RNA therapeutics, searching new drug targets, possibilities are endless.

@jspujji Every high GPA colleague/friend of mine is super successful. Some average/low GPA colleague of mine are super successful. High GPA is indicates you are disciplined, focused and responsible. These traits remain in your career as well.

Absolutely brilliant work. This work used ~70 nm germanium particles for optical trap studies (as opposed to micron size polystyrene that are commonly used), increasing the spatial and temporal resolution. Amazing animation @schaeffer_lab .

A silver lining during a crisis. So many research groups, with different expertise, focusing on one goal: To fight COVID19 with the maximum possible force. It's so heartening to see new discoveries on a daily basis. Congratulations @TjianDarzacq Group.

Motivated by the obscenely high cost of #COVID19 testing reagents, we developed #BEARmix 🐻 - an inexpensive, open-source master mix for 1-step RT-qPCR! It can reliably detect 10 RNA copies/rxn and can be made by any lab equipped for prot purif. Protocol👉

World urgently needs an open source foundational LLM. GPTs and BARDs are profiteering with so much opaqueness. Our best shot is when a team of academic researchers train a foundational model on thousands on GPUs on a super computer. Question is who will do it?

@chakrabartis @ivanmartit This is truly powerful. The biggest concern of the clients we are talking to is 'data privacy'. They really don't want their data to go to OpenAI or Google servers. Can't wait to test this out to see how accurate this is.

We can also estimate motor forces when motors are bypassing cellular roadblocks. We use artificial (20-100 nanometer beads) as well as physiological roadblocks (tau) to demonstrate the functionality of our assay. I hope our work will enhance the understanding of motor forces. 5/n
