Very happy to see that the IAVI rVSV Ebola Sudan Vaccine Clinical trial has started today in Uganda. 45 contacts have been identified & 6 already have some symptoms so hopefully the vaccine will show efficacy in the @WHO ring vaccine trial & then can be used in outbreak control.

Very sorry that there is another outbreak of #Ebola Sudan in Uganda. But happy that there are 2160 doses of the IAVI rVSV Sudan Ebola Vax in country from last outbreak where it got there too late 2B tested. Hopefully vaccination can start soon on the 45 contacts & Hlth workers.

Really great to attend the launch of the new EU Pandemic Viral Vector Vaccine Facility at Bilthoven in the Netherlands. A partnership btw HERA, Serum Institute of India & Bilthoven, they will keep warm a facility with a capacity of >80 M doses to assure European Preparedness.

This #WorldMeningitisDay, @ProfessorSow and I wrote in @AllAfrica,to urge the world to follow the @WHO road map to #DefeatMeningits by 2030.   With state-of-the-art vaccines, diagnosis and treatment, we can save lives from this preventable disease.  

Meningococcal Meningitis can be defeated. 26 African countries eliminated meningitis A through widespread vaccination. Proud to author this article with my good friend @ProfessorSow about how the world can use new vaccines to #DefeatMeningitis by 2030.

so that we can be prepared for the evolutionarily inevitable future pandemics. Of course, I thanked the Board & staff of the NFID but also all of the scientists, staff, collaborators & health workers who have been partners in this quest for vaccine equity. They are the heroes.

So nice to be back at the Global Health Campus with @SaniaNishtar & my old team. It is one year since I stepped down as @gavi CEO. I miss all of my colleagues but glad that the critical work is going on so well under very capable hands.
