@Microbedoc2 @PihPih184443 @glurcher Sorry Jamie I think I'm maybe using it incorrectly then, but I just feel that we have studied medicine, we are clever capable ppl, if the maths doesn't work then explore something else. I'm not the only junior to have bought a property in training, most will have incl london

@Microbedoc2 @PihPih184443 @glurcher that spending behaviour is a significant factor here. It is not impossible to have saved more over that period.

@Microbedoc2 @glurcher Define bank roll. I had a full student loan but didn't need to work during med school for example. No living support since qualifying. Privilege is relative tho - appreciate that.

@PihPih184443 @glurcher @Microbedoc2 I dont think we disagree with the problems. Happy to see receipts. I'm just against this learned helplessness/victim hood. Either change it or do something else

@PihPih184443 @glurcher @Microbedoc2 Should I/we be paid more - yes. Is it still possible to have saved enough money for a deposit working as junior doctor over the past 10 yrs - also yes. Will it be possible for the current f1s over the next 10 - maybe not. I don't think I'm being unreasonable

@PihPih184443 @glurcher @Microbedoc2 But I'm intrigued. Where have you run into me? Seeing as I am approx same age as and more junior than OP how have i facilitated this.

@PihPih184443 @glurcher @Microbedoc2 Is it a different story for an f1 in 2025 w 100k debt. Absolutely. But that's not the point

@glurcher @Microbedoc2 I'm not saying things wernt easier a generation ago. Just compare house prices as multiple of household income. And things are more difficult for new juniors than 10 yrs ago. But 100% possible to buy a flat in London over thay period with some budgeting and discipline.

@Microbedoc2 @glurcher 100% appreciate increased costs that new juniors have (loan, interest rates, cost of living) but to say that it's not possible to save 50k over 10 yrs a Dr qualifying in 2014 is disingenuous

@glurcher @Microbedoc2 I don't think this is a medicine thing tbf. There is no reason a new consultant on 100k can't afford a deposit after 10yrs of earning. I was saving 1k/month living in a flatshare in London as an f1 in 2014.

@LittlePersonDoc @nolanjimradial @Langton_Steve For me, 2014 w 33k, paid off 10yrs later (in context of historically low interest rates for majority). Students now qualifying w 100k debt & only marginal increased wage. Imo medicine in UK now offers a poor investment. Can only justify if able to self fund or practise abroad.
