I want to say a big thank you to the
#Covid
community here on Twitter. Thank you for helping all those who listen navigate through these ongoing challenging times as we do our best to navigate in a sea of SARS-CoV-2.
You led when "leaders" failed us.
May you stay safe in 2024.
@brownecfm
Thank you Conor for your explanation of Covid risks & the value of mitigations (even when risks are still > 0).
"Risk mitigation is NOT binary" is a good statement for us to keep reminding ourselves (as our brains tend to go to 0s & 1s).
Waiting for a medical appointment... CO2 levels in waiting room are 1200ppm (so about 2% of air is rebreathed).
Thankful for my well-fitting & comfortable respirator.
@LolaGerms
Thank you Lola for sharing this perspective. 🙏
I wish countries would compete with one another on stealing the best ideas from each other instead of the worst. 🤔
@lucyveepee
Oh, you mean "spacious" as in an indoor space with poor ventilation where a good % of breaths are from someone else? Like airplane spacious. 😉
@hillygirl1939
Lots of folks here are feeling this.
Thank you for putting it into words. 🙏
And thanks to the communities here (& other platforms) for the validation & support.
@michael_hoerger
I loved that example: "Data-rich public health dashboards that use low-quality metrics and/or don’t change public health recommendations as risk increases."
We've seen a fair share of those in the past 4 years.
@markdixontweets
@mchristinebd
Nice!
I think the Filter heading might be a bit clearer if it said "Filter Indoor Air"
And for ventilate section, it might also be worth specifying: ventilate before, during, and after (event/gathering)
@1goodtern
One word: compartmentalization.
Compartmentalization of their thought processes (and not of the BSL3 SARS-CoV-2 pathogen since the world has decided to let that run loose).
@DurianLiftOff
@warrington_sue
@DavidJoffe64
Durian, this is amazing. It needs a proper send-off not just a mention in a reply.
BTW, 👏 for "You are free to disagree with anything you read here, provided that you have an authentic, evidence-based argument for it."
@broadwaybabyto
Beautifully said. Thank you Kelly 🙏 for reminding us of our own vulnerable state & that things rn are very challenging for many with chronic conditions.
For most people, getting Covid was a disruption that passed. But for the millions who developed
#LongCovid
, that disruption has been persistent – for years.
After 32 months of living with this complex chronic illness, here are some reflections...🧵
@NohaAboelataMD
Nicely done, Dr. Aboelata. 😄👏
You're part of the random folks on Twitter that have shown more leadership (+humor+humility) than our so-called PH leaders.
@GaloresCircus
I also like this one but obviously the person would need to be open to reading about COVID strategies from other countries:
The COVID-safe strategies Australian scientists are using to protect themselves from the virus
If you read only ONE thing this month about C0v1d make it this 👇
Does the public understand that "variant" means "vaccine resistant"?

@julia_doubleday
@JessicaLexicus
Thanks for the update & glad this new project can be both financially beneficial & a creative outlet.
Many here have enjoyed your articles & we'll just have to re-read the ones already written. 😉
[ There's a good chance Covid will still be here when you're ready to be back. 😵💫]
@KristieDeGaris
💯
And for me it's also the disappointment of the way PH & govt leaders have ignored the warnings and have failed to step up awareness & preparations.
"Is this the level of (PH) service we can expect now?" keeps coming to mind.

PMC COVID-19 Tracker, Dec 18, 2023
We are headed into potentially the 2nd largest COVID surge all-time in the U.S.
If
#wastewater
levels follow historic trends, we will reach 2 million infections/day at peak surge with 4.2% of the population actively infectious on Jan 10.
@LauraMiers
Thank you Laura for what you've shared with the folks who wanted to learn about C and LC.
You have been a beacon of clarity and truth in these challenging times.
@michael_hoerger
Mike: I think this is the source for that JAMA article; is that right?
Prevalence of Immunosuppression Among US Adults | Allergy and Clinical Immunology | JAMA
As the year wraps up, I'm thankful for the army of Covid warriors/survivors, researchers, and advocates. 🙏
Your experiences, warnings, expertise, and communications have helped lots of people (& me) by supporting, by educating, & ultimately by protecting against SARS-CoV-2.
@plantypotter
That could be a 2024 calendar theme: a bunch of tradespeople wearing masks to protect themselves from the airborne risks inherent to their craft.
@Cheshire_Kat11
Some people know (about masks). And when they also have empathy (or are at least willing to mirror), the combination of the two is remarkable. 👏👏👏
@LauraMiers
Thank you Laura 🙏.
I hope these kinds of receipts can eventually be shared with archives (like nat/l archives & big U. libraries) to serve as foundations & warnings for future generations.
@KRaymerBishop
Dang, I've been having that same sinking feeling as well.
The worst part is that this is round two, we KNOW what works, we can SEE the signs, and yet govts & PH aren't even doing the bare minimum.
Our new study examines

infections (including reinfections), long-term symptoms and their impact on the Canadian adult population more than three years since the beginning of the pandemic. To learn more: .
@ApricotTreeCaf1
Congrats, you've been a role model for how the hospitality industry and the retail sectors could be —no, should be— doing Covid precautions. 👏👏👏
@JessicaLexicus
Great advice, as usual.
This 💯: "Pandemics and disasters don’t happen out of nowhere. There’s plenty of warnings and red flags. We don’t have to live in fear. We just have to pay attention."
@Engineer_Wong
@kary_cee
Thanks for the explanation Engr Wong. I wanted to learn more on the topic and I found this video quite useful in understanding laminar and turbulent flows:
@keetmuise
Any minute now global leaders could decide "this is an all-hands-on-deck-moment." Yet we're still waiting & every day more get infected (& run their luck with LC).
Re: That Article but also just relationships, something I’ve learned over 14 years of marriage is that there are lines and walls. Lines can be negotiated and compromised around. You hate their mom. They don’t like ironing. These are lines.
@DaniBeckman
Thank you for sharing these kinds of reputable studies, Dr. Beckman, and for your continued messaging on the dangers (to the brain) posed by SARS-CoV-2. 🙏
@kprather88
Thank you Dr. Prather for sharing this important context 🙏.
And thank you as well for your work providing clear and accurate information when those who have official responsibilities to do so in PH have let us down.
@yamihere333
@MLevantovskaya
Not quite. One way masking isn't as effective as all way masking. Everyone should mask, all the time.
That's also the better DEI approach.
Latest CDC Household Pulse survey data on
#LongCovid
:
Note: I shrunk some of the blank space to make it easier to compare latest period, Jan 9 - Feb 5, vs Oct 18 - Oct 30.
New CDC Household Pulse Survey data is out (survey conducted 1/9-2/5/24):
- 6.8% of adults are currently experiencing LC (up from 5.3% in October 23)
- 17.6% of adults have ever experienced LC (up from 14.3% in October 23)

"The [2022] estimate represents a decline of 0.3 percent compared with 2021, but an increase of almost 18 percent compared with 2019."
@Dave_it_up
🙏 Dave. I follow many accounts who cover the science of Covid (pathogens, Dx, Rx, impact on human systems, etc) and nearly always learn something new and different from your posts.
@covidsafenetwrk
And look at the order EPA listed mitigations:
[
#s
below added by me]
1) increasing ventilation with outdoor air and air filtration... [and also the rest]
2) physical distancing
3) wearing cloth face coverings or MASKS
4) surface cleaning
5) handwashing
6) and other precautions.
@NjbBari3
They were fun "projects." The one on the right is a 5x P14 (PC fans) w/ 2in filters; looks like a PC tower.
The left one was super easy to build (just duct tape & scissors) & runs on 5V USB so it's in my car (about 100CFM) in case school kiddo is infectious.
@LieslMcconchie
Nice side by side. 🙏
Hint 1: one of these is NOT like the other.
Hint 2: it's the one you can't see that you ought to be concerned about.
#CovidIsNotOver
As the year wraps up, I'm thankful for the army of Covid warriors/survivors, researchers, & advocates here. 🙏
Your experiences, warnings, expertise, & communications have helped lots of people (& me) by supporting, educating, & protecting against this invisible pathogen.
I just saw a tweet that goes, “Does anyone else feel like their short-term memory has gotten scary worse?”
There are 4.7 million views, 160,000 likes, 22,500 reposts, 3,500 quotes, & 3,950 bookmarks. Everything is fine! Carry on.
@julia_doubleday
Thank you for sharing this 🙏. It gives hope to so many of us (that people we care about can learn to be safer).
And thank you as well for the direct and engaging way that you write about this complex issue. 🙏&👏
@LolaGerms
Great job Lola.
When I first started watching this video, I thought:
Lola should connect with
@DaniBeckman
. The two would be an unstoppable pair.
I nearly spilled my coffee when I saw the thank you note at the end of the video. 🎉👏 to the two of you.
@Engineer_Wong
Nicely done. Clean lines. Appears to keep everything in place & well protected.
I agree w/ others:
If possible, sell as two versions (w/ vs w/o). Otherwise, to keep costs low, sell pro w/o case.
🙏 for your designs & the way you seek input/feedback .
Regarding your recent posts
@AmandaKvalsvig
(from the past hour), this may be helpful even though from a US perspective:
Evidence Mounts That About 7% of US Adults Have Had Long COVID
@TRyanGregory
That's some great CO2 readings for anything indoors (I'm happy when I can get anything close to 600 in my house). Also neat that the humidity levels are this low around a large body of water.
@Sheep_in_fog
@NjbBari3
This should be on the other side of one of
@o_bel_
's flyers about why we're being Covid cautious.
The slow but cumulative impacts of ignoring the Covid science will become increasingly clear.
@Guiness_Pig
I also really like this very recent recap (last week). There's a PDF version (6 pgs, + 2 of refs) if you want.
Long COVID’s Impact on Patients, Workers, & Society: A review
@brownecfm
Thank you Conor for taking good care of yourself so we can all continue to benefit from your risk analysis and insights during these turbulent times.
@1goodtern
Another mistake: failure to recognize & educate that the situation is fluid.
What worked (good enough maybe) last month or last summer (under different conditions) will now need serious ratcheting up.
Nothing is forever and "set & forget" is rarely a good way forward.
@ukhadds
This is a wonderful thread going over some really great research. 👏 & 🙏 to you Al and your team for scientifically examining (+ explaining) the role that CO2 plays in Covid infectivity.
