6 years after leaving academia, my publisher finally agreed to print an affordable paperback version of my book, on the condition that I help them sell the remaining 70 hardback copies. They gave me a 60% discount code: DIVIDING60 Anyone interested?
"Unlike Western colonial powers, China is a peaceful nation..."
I just don't get why such an easily falsifiable statement is repeated by so many people, sometimes even by academics.
So I really want to introduce to you some fun facts about my home country's history:
No nation is more peaceful than others. Our genetic differences are negligible biologically. Any nation who's powerful enough tends to be aggressive. And when a powerful nation is authoritarian, the aggressiveness more likely than not will turn into conquest. (end)
Eileen Gu adopted the CCP trolls' talking point and claimed everyone in China can use VPN to visit foreign websites.
So is the Great Fire Wall just a waste of money? The CCP built it just for fun?
I don't care which country she competes for. But this is really shameless.
Urgent help needed!
TikTok just shamelessly banned my account with a quarter million followers after my video on North Korea went viral. I've appealed but am not optimistic.
If you have a TikTok account, please ask people to find me here or on Instagram
@drhueyli
The fact that China hasn't engaged in direct conquest since the 20th century doesn't indicate any intrinsic peaceful culture. It can change at any time if the world fails to hold aggressors like Putin accountable.
I'll start from the mid 1600s, the same time when the British started to colonize India and America.
In 1644, a rebel leader Zhang Xianzhong conquered Sichuan (where he's not a native) and executed about 1/3 of the population and caused the area to depopulate by 75%.
Elon is such a bitch.
I saw this "Blue MAGA" trending topic and clicked it. But none of the top posts have "Blue MAGA" in their text. Apparently Elon's minions manually assigned them to the category.
About the Day Light Saving time: Let's assume something historical happened, say, Devin Nunes attacked his cow, on Sunday 1:58 am Pacific time. 2 minutes later the clock was turned back to 1 am. Then Nunes was killed by the cow at 1:03 am. How would the history book record it?
What's she even trying to say? That she can't count to five? That she thinks BRICS are all communist countries? That they are in some sort of imagined military alliance? What a clown.
I hate to post images like these.
But a lot of y'all think dictatorship is OK because "China is doing OK". Sorry, only the side of China on TV is doing OK. You have no idea what the unrepresented part looks like.
These are some random photos of worker dormitories in China.
In 1645, Manchurian military, with the help of Ming defectors, executed the entire population of at least two cities, Yang Zhou and Jiang Yin, and massacred many others. The death toll of the entire Ming-Qing transition is believed to rival WW1.
In late 1600s, China set out to conquer the Dzungar Khanate to the West. The war lasted about 70 years and ended with the physical extermination of the entire Dzungar ethnic group (about 600k people) and Qing's control of the modern Xinjiang and Mongolia.
One of China's biggest civil wars, Taiping Rebellion, happened around the same time as the American Civil War, but dwarfed the latter in deaths. Both sides of the war massacred the cities they conquered, which resulted in some cities being slaughtered twice. 20-30 million died.
Going into the 20th century, China started to look like a victim mostly because it was no match to the military power of Western nations and Japan. Then, after the WW2 and the concurrent Communist revolution, China became restrained by the post-War territorial norm.
Some historians believe most of the killings happened after Zhang's defeat by the Manchurian military. But that doesn't matter for the purpose of this thread.

"My problem with him wasn't the death camps but his failure to expand those camps into Western Europe".
The bio-diversity on this website is scary.
It's not exaggerating to say that this is THE most important message I want to share with the world, or any planet that has a civilization.
If someone tells you there is an alternative to democracy, they're wrong.
I've got to say something before this "China lifted 800 million people out of poverty" misinformation gets out of control and drives a whole generation towards authoritarianism.
Joe Biden just proved that he didn't do this job to seek power. He skipped 2016 to make way for Hillary. And now he's skipping 2024 to make way for Kamala.
I will never not admire this man.
Urgent 🧵
1) Pro-Russia accounts are saying Putin's loss will cause him to use nuclear weapons. That's a lie. He will only use them when he expects to win.
Considering this is such an important topic, I implore you to look at the facts and spend a few minutes debating with me.
Almost no one I see on the internet believes US interventions in foreign wars were justified.
But a whole bunch of people somehow believe the interventions done by Iran, Hezbollah, and the Houthis were totally justified.
I wonder what changed?
The most uncomfortable fact about last night was that despite how easy it was for Western countries to intercept hundreds of missiles and drones, they are not doing it for Ukraine.
They want you to believe that Hunter took a screenshot of his own message using a Russian iPhone, transferred the image into a blackberry, took the picture of that blackberry showing the screenshot, and then stored that picture in his own laptop.
And Rudy was tucking his shirt.
@AmbJohnBolton
At this point, people already passed the stage of being sympathetic about those fired by Trump. Because you know what, whoever is still in
#PABPresident
's circle HAS TO be a big piece of shit.
@RodRosenstein
The cowardice and hypocrisy in this tweet is just unparalleled. Only hours after Trump tweeted a conspiracy theory to his 60 million followers, you blame the media? No wonder Trump blame video games for shooting. You have the same mindset.
@wikileaks
@BriarApp
A reminder that WikiLeaks hasn't published any classified document from the Russian government, but targets Russia's rivals exclusively.
Remember the Nobel Prize winner who died in a Chinese prison in 2017? Trump didn't utter a word, let alone sanctions. That was a green light for Russia to do the same thing. I hope Biden doesn't make the same mistake.
Lol, that was a slap in the face. Elon probably thought a right-wing leader would embrace him into the cool-kids club. No one wants a Putinist incel though.
After
@elonmusk
handed
@GiorgiaMeloni
an
@AtlanticCouncil
award in NYC this past week, the Italian prime minister used the moment to state clearly that Ukraine must win—and that the West, if it still believes in democracy and dignity—must help.
Voice's like Meloni's can help
My biggest worry about Elon is that he may help the Chinese government monitor and hunt down Chinese dissidents on Twitter. That dude has a lot of business interests in China.
RFK Jr. is dropping out because he'd pull votes from Trump.
Jill Stein is staying because she'll pull votes from Harris.
Putin's assignments are very specific.
@BillOReilly
See? These people believe Mexico will pay for the wall, but won't believe the plain facts that they could see by walking a few miles from their rich community or even just watching a movie.
🧵I made A LOT OF videos over the years debunking the "Chinese miracle" because I knew Trump would use China to justify his proposed dictatorship. Here's a thread for your convenience. More of these in the "China Info" folder of my TikTok page.
Whenever I look back at Tiananmen, what hits me most was not the cruelty, which was no surprise, but the sheer amount of people willing to risk it all to give freedom a try. All they need is a rallying moment.
After Prigozhin, Navalny, and so many apparent assassinations, I want to remind everyone that Russia still refuses to hand over the wreckage of the 2010 plane crash that killed the then-Polish president and nearly 100 prominent figures, even though they claim it was an AcCideNt.
Silly people have been discussing why Ukraine invaded Kursk. Isn't it obvious?
1. Kursk is in Ukraine's sphere of influence.
2. CSTO is expanding too fast.
3. Russia has a bunch of Nazis.
4. Ukrainian speakers are being oppressed.
5. Biolabs, probably.
Unpopular 🧵
I get why many people are mad that Russian protestors didn't start protesting until mobilization. But as someone who grew up in a country where mentioning protest in social media can land you in jail, I sort of have a more lenient view toward them.
Isn't she great? Even if her opponent were a normal decent politician, I would TikTok for her with all my heart.
Bashing that rapey orange fart bag at the same time is just an extra bonus for me.
Your genius boy Elon believes Republicans have Democratic friends while Democrats don't have Republican friends.
I didn't know friendship could be unilateral. Sounds like stalking.
1) True story. Some 20 yrs ago, China did not yet have the tech to identify who was using VPN in a building. One day I called my internet provider and ask them why the entire international connection dropped. They told me someone in my building had visited "illegal content."
This video is causing a little hate storm on TikTok. I have to say Russia and Iran did a great job of dividing liberals over Israel and Palestine.
(BTW, I found a way to post longer videos as Ads, but it has to be horizontal).
The Syrian civil war has killed about 5 times as many people as the entire Israeli-Palestinian conflict of 70+ years. But I've never heard of any mass protest in the US or Europe against Bashir Assad. Any idea why?
Can anti-colonialist people offer some comments on White Moscovites using Asian people as cannon fodder? If this is not colonialism, I don't know what the fuck is.
More rehearsal photos of my short play on abortions, immigration, parenting, and political participation (not for the faint of heart!) It'll be directed by
@ColisTall
at the Soop to Nuts Short Play Festival. Check it out if you're in NYC this weekend!
You'll hate me, but this speech is pretty clever, using a typical American argument against US foreign interventions to persuade Iranian people against Iranian foreign interventions.
I started to see why this guy managed to stay in office despite protests.
When I post stuff about China, people assume I have some sort of regime change agenda. 😅Maybe I did, but gave up a long time ago because there was no chance whatsoever.
Right now, all I want is for existing democracies to not have reverse regime changes. Is that too much to ask?
If another war breaks out in Lebanon and thousands more die as a result, the American kids who cheer for intifada are partially responsible.
Whatever your perceived problems are, expecting Hamas and Hezbollah to be your problem solvers is just top-notch stupid.
@JessicaLexicus
You don't know how viruses work do you? They can't be eliminated unless the vaccines reach the effectiveness of smallpox vaccines, which will probably take decades. Zero-COVID was doomed to fail from the beginning.
Sorry I have to panic-tweet about this ruling for the foreseeable future. Bear with me.
This is breaking me mentally.
Imagine spending half of your life escaping from the "presidential immunity" in one country and only ending up with that in another.
Hope I don't sound like flexing, but today is our 20th wedding anniversary! It's been so long that we almost forgot it. Only when I was checking the release date of Home Before Dark Season 2, I realized it's a day of significance!
9) Haven't you noticed the closer a country is to the potential nuclear war (Ukraine, Poland, Baltic countries, Finland), the more hardline they are to Putin? Are you saying they want the radiation? Of course not. They are hardline EXACTLY because they want to prevent nukes.
Marco Rubio just launched a bizarre attack on the NBA for voicing support for gun safety regulations in the wake of the massacre of 19 children.
Alas for Rubio, many in the crowd cheered the idea.
Let's hope more sports figures speak out on this issue:
