says Hate crimes in 2023 were 69% more than in 2018. 44% of recorded hate crimes targeted Jews. These charts say it all. There were more Anti-Jewish hate crimes in 2023 than at least the next 5 bias types combined.
This is what
@RepDanGoldman
@danielsgoldman
& staff confronted when they showed up to work today. It is a direct result of his speaking out against anti-Semitism & supporting Israel’s right to self-defense. Defacing his office is not a form of protest, it is a deplorable crime.
@AnnabellSciorra
Browder was given a $3,000 bail. This is important. To his family $3,000 was like $10 million. To Weinstein, 1 mil is like $0. In essence, the bail set for a kid accused of stealing a backpack was $10 mil & the alleged predatory sex offender was essentially released with no bail.
Did you know that
#LootingLeoffler
(aka Kelly Loeffler) is trying to intimidate local TV stations not to run this scathing ad by
@MeidasTouch
? Spread the news.
This is so transparent. Cuomo & the IDC conspire to block progressive legislation for years, then conveniently announce reunification after the budget passes but before an election in which all but 1 IDC members have real challengers. It doesn’t change a thing. Vote the bums out.
BREAKING: Gov. Andrew Cuomo called on Sens. Klein and Stewart-Cousins to reunite IMMEDIATELY yesterday in meeting with state's top labor leaders.
NEW TERMS: Stewart-Cousins as sole leader. Klein as her deputy. IDC would dissolve.
Update. There weren’t enough tacos. People were hungry. I was scared my phones were tapped but I took a chance & called Kiku. I ordered a sushi platter for 2. A nice Mexican man delivered it on a bike. The only sake we had left was too dry. We’ve lost.
#NotesFromNationalEmergency
The only food in the house is an old taco making kit, which I’m making while my daughter watches a show about the importance of sharing. The Socialists have joined the Mexicans! All is lost. Nothing left to do but drink the last of my Don Julio 1942.

@JewishWonk
@datadivajf
If you carry a large cup filled to the top with darkness into a room full of light, it will have no impact. If you bring a small cup of lightness into a pitch black room, it will illuminate everything. That is the miracle of Chanukah.
@AlanDersh
Hi. Can you please cite for us lawyers the penal law the you believe she violated? Also, did you file a police report? Did you notify your adversary? Did you notify the Court?

48 hours since the snowstorm stopped & much of our city is still inaccessible to anyone pushing a stroller, in a wheelchair or with mobility issues, because crosswalks remain buried in snow. This is an equity issue too often ignored.
@NYCMayor
take action.

@danielsgoldman
won a hard-fought primary in
#NY10
against many talented candidates. As the Democratic District Leader for the 44th AD, I’m proud to endorse him as our democratic nominee. In DC, Dan will be a champion for safe streets, public schools & protecting our democracy.
Lest anyone doubt whether
@KGforNYC
lives in Brooklyn, she personally answered the door when my canvasser knocked and said she’d love to talk but had to get on a zoom.
@soulkhan
I tore open the back of all of my 3 year old daughter's Elsa AND Anna dolls (6 I think) but did not find any drugs or small caliber weapons. Do you have any advice about how to get her to stop crying?
Did anyone else just get a disturbing, anonymous robocall attacking Eric Adams & Andrew Yang for "making deals with Ultra-Orthodox rabbis"? Strangely, the call came to our campaign office. Whatever you think of their politics, this robocall reeked of anti-semitism.
Brooklyn is not going to stay silent. Huge turnout at the protest of Nicole Malliotakis’ assault in democracy. Glad to have joined so many elected officials and concerned & angry Brooklynites to say silence is complicity.
@nycsouthpaw
@NatashaBertrand
@bradheath
You gotta love a guy who describes himself as a brilliant legal mind in a filing that is not just legally frivolous, but strategically beyond stupid.
Sure,
@NYCMayor
could've been more articulate, but all these scolding tweets suggesting he was insulting low-wage workers are silent about the substance of his policy, which is that keeping businesses open is essential for many lower-wage workers. He's not wrong. 1/
True story. I had a cold. I went to Rite Aid to buy Nyquil & Dayquil. I was told I could not buy them both because it exceeded restrictions set because they can be used to make meth. Ownership of cold medicine is more restricted than ownership of assault weapons.

@Jill_Jorgensen
Brooklyn Tech had an 85% attendance rate yesterday. That is over 5,000 kids who received a quality, in person education at one of NYC’s most elite public high schools.
The NYT finally challenges the narrative that schools are “open.” If We bought tickets to Hamilton, but showed up to the theater & just sat in the seats & watched the Disney+ version on a screen, no one would claim Broadway was open for live performance.
@darakass
This is undoubtedly true, but I haven’t heard people claim that taking off a mask will end the pandemic (at least not by people worth taking seriously). Rather, the argument is whether the mitigation value of a policy is justified in light of the harm from that policy.
@DrRJKavanagh
I represented a Black woman who was sitting in a parked car, keys in the ignition, listening to music. Cops told her to lower the music & she refused. They charged her with DUI & VTL violations. She was acquitted of DUI but convicted of 1 violation. Chun sentenced her to 30 days.
This morning my son and I went to the Mayor’s press conference to challenge him on the 2 case rule. We need to keep up the pressure & advocacy. We will win this fight because we are right.
#keepNYCschoolsopen
How narcissistic is this “not in my name” mantra? Of course it’s not in your name. It’s in the name of the innocents slaughtered by Hamas; of the Israeli citizens who will be in bomb shelters on Sunday, not these fake progressives who will be at Sunday brunch.
Good for
@mayawiley
&
@AndrewYang
for calling to fully open schools. For the last 8 months I've been fighting to open schools & keep them open & have not been afraid to say it. Now every candidate, for every office, needs to tell us where they stand.
#keepNYCschoolsopen
The CDC say it's safe for students to return to the classroom full time with proper protocols in place. I'm calling on the Mayor and Chancellor to open schools and let every one of our kids learn, with their teachers, safely and in person 5 days a week.
I have some big personal and professional news!! After 17 years as a litigator, the last 12 running my own firm, I am closing my law practice to become the General Counsel for Brooklyn Community Services

@ShaunKing
This is why we can’t have nice things. We got a promise for a vote on 1 bill by 1 house, which won’t get taken up by the House or signed by the Senate, 100,000 people a month will lose their status, and people are declaring victory.
@iproposethis
After 37 years of “knowing” I had ADHD, I finally got evaluating & diagnosed. I was prescribed Adderall & at my 1st follow up appointment told my doctor, “I now know how I was supposed to feel my entire life.” My life is improved in so many ways during the last 10 years.
People said that we couldn’t win. It took lawsuits, refusals to take no for an answer, a group of amazing District Leaders & the eloquence & willpower of committed activists, but after a meeting lasting 12 hrs & 45 mins we did what they said could not be done.

Why wouldn’t the new lawyers just put in their notices & take over the case while the other lawyers take a back seat? No need to withdraw, right? Something else going on here.
@ItsMJ254
@carlylewis
@Justin_Ling
She said “major reason” not “the only reason.” I wasn’t there, but I am going to assume some of the other “major reasons” was the abuse she & others suffered. Also, your explanation as to why she “had a bad experience” is insultingly dismissive of her experieces & feelings.
Judicial robes aren't a consolation prize for incumbents who are rejected by the voters. Jeff Klein is not fit to be a judge. Jesse Hamilton is not fit to be a judge. If leadership took 2 seconds to listen to & care about the voice of the grassroots, they would hear the outrage.
Sources say
@JeffKleinNY
is unlikely to stay in race against
@Biaggi4NY
There is an opening for a Judgeship that was supposed to go to
@AndrewCohenNYC
which may now go to Klein.
@JeffreyDinowitz
was hoping Cohen would take judgeship so his son could run for Council seat.
The
@nytimes
article on Yeshivas raises important questions about whether they are offering a substantially equivalent education. Unfortunately, the article goes further, vilifying Hassidic Jews & their way of life & repeatedly echoing the age-old myth of excessive Jewish power.
@eorden
This is a tough argument to make and has been rejected in other cases for lack of standing. A party who was not the subject of the search warrant is unlikely to have standing to challenge the warrant.
Media is obsessed with trying to label schools unsafe. In reality, spread of COVID in schools is low & when it does happen, its caused by adults, not students, especially in elementary schools. Stop the fear-mongering & make sure adults in schools are vaccinated & responsible.
(Yes, I'm going to ask if the DOE's assumption will be students are keeping to that three feet of distance. I visited a school last week where in an art class the kids were clearly sitting right next to one another, see below -- what happens in cases like that?)
One press conference was not enough. This afternoon, I joined
@bradlander
's rally demanding the end of the 2 case closure rule. Brad has been a real leader on the issue & as a public school parent, I really appreciate it.
#keepNYCschoolsopen
Out here early in front of the Park Slope Armory for
@agounardes
for State Senate. If you live in the 26th Senate District its a no-brainer, vote for Andrew Gounardes!
We also saw this same exact promise 4 years ago, on the eve of an election only for Cuomo and the IDC to renege once they won reelection. Even if they do reunify, nothing stops them from doing it again.
Happy to welcome
@AndrewYang
to
@parkslope5thave

These bikes DONT belong in the park when others are likely to be there. Dogs are allowed off-leash between 7-9am in a sensible compromise between 2 legitimate uses of the park. The same must be done with these race bikes. We can’t wait until someone dies. And someone will.
Say hi to Commissioner
@JoniKletter
.
Pride is not the word I’m looking for; There is so much more inside me now; Oh Joni, you outshine the morning sun...
In a description for a new TV show, the
@BBC
refers to Alfred Dreyfus as “the notorious Jewish spy.” Of course, Dreyfus’s false imprisonment for treason is one of most prominent & well-known examples of anti-Semitism in history. How could the BBC possibly let this happen?
I can't believe that in the middle of the most consequential election of our lifetimes, we have to put out a statement about the financially unwise & strategically mistaken decision to appeal the court's decision requiring the KCDCC to hold a meeting. But nonetheless, here it is.
The Brooklyn Democratic Party is the definition of a big tent, but there is no room in the tent for bigots like
@IAMLORISUE
, a former Republican with a history of equally ugly statements. There is no scenario under which she should be allowed to continue as a District Leader.
Takeout alcohol has been a lifeline for suffering restaurants. If we are serious about helping restaurants survive & thrive, we need to renew it through the summer at a minimum.
We did it. All of you who stuck this out to fight with us are heroes! Seriously!
#ccmeeting2020
. And how about that
@m_r_r_alexander
? What stellar leadership!
Reprimanding
@NYCMayor
on Twitter in "defense" of lower-wage workers does nothing to actually help lower-wage workers. You know what does? The actual policy that Eric Adams was laying out yesterday. /end
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but now that the Democratic primary is over, anyone who spends their time trying to defeat Dan Goldman instead of Nicole Malliotakis (or any other actual Republican) is a MAGA enabler.

I was on the call & horrified by the “joke” & immediately alerted
@DavidSchwartz48
. Although meant as a joke & an apology was given, the ease with which an anti-Chasidic joke was told is disturbing &, given the current climate, dangerous. Its not what our party stands for.
Beyond appalling! Executive Director at
@BkDemocrats
cracked a joke about fellow committee member
@DavidSchwartz48
.
Anti-chasidic rhetoric has been creeping into politics and media. It's insidious and repugnant - and incredibly counterproductive.
This is really disingenuous,
@yuhline
. The intent of Trump’s endorsement of Goldman is actually to assist you or other candidates defeat him. By exploiting this, you’re actually the one accepting Trump’s help. Also, exploiting gullible people is unbecoming.
For the 3rd time in 2 months

Mulgrew’s suggestion that remote learning is ok because “some kids are thriving” is truly insulting & divorced from the reality our kids, parents, & teachers live everyday. Even if it were true, I guess Mulgrew was absent the day they taught the exception does not prove the rule.
This is great news. Remote learning has hurt our children. It’s widened the achievement gap & hurt their social & emotional development & their mental health. Just yesterday there was a debate for
#CD39
, & I was the only candidate to call for open schools with no remote option.
Hey
@CommonCause
!
How is it acceptable for the NY chapter Executive Director to refer to Orthodox Jewish New Yorkers as an “extremist bloc”???
You claim to be an organization that promotes “equal rights, opportunity, and representation for all.”
Jesse Hamilton betrayed his voters & the Democratic Party when he decided to join forces with NY’s Trump Republicans. Now he’s doubling down on his Trump credentials by attacking real Democrats like
@Vote_Richardson
. Hilariously, his attempt to do it anonymously was a total fail!
We know
@SenatorHamilton
showed his true colors by caucusing with Senators Klein and Flanagan instead of
@Andreascousins
, who would have been the first black female
#senate
leader. He is now smearing
@Vote_Richardson
. Together, we’ll vote him out on September 13!
Why is the Brooklyn Democratic Party using its official social media account to promote a challenge to one of its Executive Committee Members? Its a total misuse of Party resources. I love
@Pinnyringel
like a brother, but
@DavidSchwartz48
is the best person for the job.
1 of the reasons I'm running for City Council is when no one in the room where decisions are made has to think about their own childcare, we end up with a City that gives 4 days notice before closing restaurants, but only 4 hours before closing schools.
To put a finer point on it,
@DavidSchwartz48
is being punished because he fought for the best interests of his community instead of having it dictated to him by a party leadership who had only their own interests in mind. This is an attempt to take power away from the community.
@RutiRegan
@PJLibrary
@RazManda
@temasmith
Its funny because where I live there are 3 synagogues in a 15 block radius. Until a retirement last year, all 3 were led by a married, gay, and female Rabbi. One day, one of my kids will come home and say, “daddy, did you know men can be Rabbis too.” I love Brooklyn.
If you got a letter purportedly from Lori Citron Knipel,
@Bobby4Brooklyn
& me asking you to give a proxy to Frank Seddio, it wasn’t sent or approved by us. For future reference, you can tell by checking if “I” repeatedly spelled my own name wrong. Also, Lori doesn’t hyphenate.
Update on
#CCMeeting2020
. We are following the same process as on 12/16.
@bkdems
comes up with some convoluted argument & plot. It gets ripped apart within minutes. They disappear for the next several hours to plot their next losing ploy. We've been "at ease" for almost 3 hrs.
After all my agita, one of the best people in politics,
@JustinBrannan
, destroyed one of the worst (
@AriKagan47
). Congrats Justin on your re-election.
@ElizabAdams
@NYDailyNews
@em4assembly
The article itself exposes how ridiculous it is. It calls her writing “sophmoric.” In fact, she was a freshman. Imagine being a 47-year incumbent whose family held the seat for a century & this is what you think you have to resort to win.
“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb to agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
#MartinLutherKingJr
@runforsomething
@elizashapiro
This is semantics. Schools are "open" in the sense that the doors are not locked & some students are getting full-time or part-time in person learning or zoom in a room. The better terminology is "schools are open for full-time in-person learning" or "schools are fully open."
Still in November 2021,
@AMBichotte
takes her praise of
@JustinBrannan
ever further. She finishes off her glowing review of Councilmember Brannan by saying, "we need more people like Justin!" Again, this was mere months after the widely publicized Bistreich settlement.
Congrats to
@JustinBrannan
on a great win. He fought in the battlefield to the very end. He is diverse in his ideologies working with constituents of all walks, reflecting a real true NYC! We need more people like Justin!
#DemocratStrong
!
@bkdems
If I understand this correctly,
@sabrinalucia
, Comms Dir. for
@AMBichotte
, is attacking my awesome colleague
@shaquanaforbk
because Shaquana both attending a service event on MLK, Jr. Day & then had the audacity to call out
@IAMLORISUE
's racism. Anyone else see a problem here?
Instead of tweeting about word-choice, go talk to your dry cleaner. People who work remotely don't need to wear business clothes, so they don't need anything dry cleaned. If they don't need anything dry cleaned, the dry cleaner can't pay his rent. Can't support his family. 4/
His statement about lower-wage workers lacking skills to sit in a corner office was cringe-worthy, but you know what he was trying to say. Not everybody can work remotely & the downstream impacts of remote work is suffered by lower-wage workers. Again, he's not wrong. 2/
I am running for City Council District 39! We need leaders with experience, compassion & a track record of fighting for what’s right. We need leaders ready from day 1 to take on the challenges of Covid-19 & help rebuild our community to be more kind, equal & just.
Running for office is hard and stressful. You gotta find time and ways to have fun too! Team Doug is having a blast! Back in April, we released our "Get To Know Me" TikTok video. Now, without further ado, here it is -- our Get Out The Vote theme song:
I am very proud to be the co-editor of my first book and announce the publication of Criminal Law in New York, 4th Edition,
@thomsonreuters
’ treatise on the New York Penal Law.
I'm honored to receive the endorsement of
@shaquanaforbk
and
@Julio_PenaBK
, 2 leaders who speak truth to power & refuse to back down in the fight to bring democracy to
@bkdems
. I'm glad to have them on our team & look forward to fighting w/ them to build a more progressive NYC.
