Given the reaction of the Michigan and Ohio State players and coaches, it feels like we’re creeping toward Harbaugh and Day having their guys meet on a high school football field in Toledo.
“I think this era of player just doesn’t love football” by Kirk Herbstreit this morning is a typical old guard insult.
A new generation gains knowledge and power, and as a result the old guard questions its heart.
I think this era of analyst just doesn’t love football players.
Dwayne Haskins, a rare Buckeye:
He did it with a sparkle and a smile, with his arms open wide. He brought everyone else along on his ride. And you just wanted everyone to know how special that journey was, and how rare Haskins was.
Because he knew it.
vs Teams over .500, vs Teams .500 or worse
GB -- 1-2, 6-1
Sea -- 2-3, 5-0
Balt -- 2-3, 4-1
TB -- 2-3, 5-1
Indy -- 2-2, 5-1
LAR -- 2-2, 5-1
Ten -- 2-2, 5-1
NO -- 2-2, 6-0
Mia -- 2-2, 4-2
How the NFL works. To pretend 1-3 vs. 6-0 is some kind of crazy unusual divide is silly
Dwayne Haskins was a transformational, aspirational, unforgettable Buckeye. His self-confidence was a joy to be around. He helped change the foundation of Ohio State football. He lived his Buckeye dream. And he could sling it. What a terrible loss.
The Iowa football program doesn’t belong to Kirk Ferentz. It belongs to the people of Iowa and the fans of the Hawkeyes. By putting family first, Ferentz is betraying them.
As Jarvis Landry exited the locker room Sunday, he stopped and told his coach that this is still going to be a helluva team. Kitchens promised Landry he’d put him in a better position to make plays next week, and to forget everything else.

Not sure there's a greater tribute to a head coach than the structure and culture you've created allowing your team to play its best when you're not there.
If you make the argument $ is the reason the Big Ten is allowing Ohio State to play in the title game, without noting OSU is the only undefeated team, won the head-to-head vs. the 2nd-place team, and would be in if it lost this week, you are either cynically disingenuous or dense
Got around to my thoughts on ESPN ranking Urban Meyer No. 46 on its list of best college football coaches:
"This ESPN coaching list is wack. Putting Meyer 46th on it basically renders the whole thing irrelevant."
Jim Harbaugh ended his news conference with the old saying about people born on third base thinking they hit a triple.
Certainly talking about Ryan Day.
Again, the rivalry lives.
Also I’m pretty sure this is the emotional moment when Seth, who just moved here from Alabama, waved goodbye to his friend Jeremiah, who just moved here from Florida
What a joke to see millionaire coaches circle the wagons for Chris Holtmann.
They hold players accountable but after 7 YEARS they complain when a coach is held accountable.
Mike Krzyzewski, Jay Wright and Tom Izzo have ZERO sense of what OSU fans deserve.
I swear I'm not being a sarcastic jerk about this, for once. Generally curious b/c I think we all feel it at times.
How can Nick Chubb lead the NFL in rushing attempts and rushing yards, yet many often feel like he doesn't get the ball enough?
Damarious Randall loves Cleveland, and the Browns have to love him enough to pay him. “I would want to finish my career here in Cleveland. I love it here. The fans, the coaches, everybody in charge here, I just love Cleveland.”
In 11 of the last 16 years, college football's National Championship has been won by a former Earle Bruce assistant. (Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Pete Carroll, Jim Tressel)
Hue Jackson after making a big point about how Josh Gordon wasn’t going to start said a personnel grouping led to Gordon starting and he didn’t want that and was disappointed it happened. So Gordon started by mistake it seems
I asked Kevin Wilson yesterday if he'd ever coached a true freshman RB before. He said Adrian Peterson, who ran for 1,925 yards as a true freshman at Oklahoma. Just wanted to thank Kevin for not adding, "you dumbass," to his answer, which would have been justified.
If the Big Ten had done away with divisions this season like the Pac-12 did, Ohio State vs. Michigan would already be locked in as the Big Ten Championship Game.
Michigan matched up very well with Ohio State.
Michigan matched up terribly with Georgia.
Ohio State would have matched up much better with Georgia.
And here we are.
If you're trying to figure out what's up with your team, Browns fans, this ain't it. Why I suggest you ignore the Baker Mayfield interview issue. In fact, you can ignore it so much, you don't even need to read this.
Basically in the end, the Browns turned their own first-round picks in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, which were originally No. 12, No. 2, No. 1, No. 1 and No. 17, into OBJ, Baker, Myles Garrrett and Denzel Ward. You good?
Quick note on Denzel Ward: He's so quiet you can barely get him to talk about himself, he's never had a problem at Ohio State and he kicked ass all over the field for 13 games this year.
A QB who had 5 TDs, 8 INTs and a passer rating of 66.7 through 5 games in his 2nd year as a starter, when his team was 2-3 in 1993.
In case you're wondering about a current QB who has 4 TDs, 8 INTs and a passer rating of 68.5 in his 2nd year as a starter, as his team is 2-3.
Happy Birthday No. 50,
@BrettFavre
. What a privilege it was to cover you, starting at the Senior Bowl when I was advised by a GM to introduce myself to the scruffy kid with the mischievous look from
@SouthernMiss
. Here's a wish for much happiness and many more birthdays!
These 4 teams will be in the same conference next season:
Iowa-Northwestern 1st half: 110 yards, 0 points
USC-Washington 1st half: 601 yards, 63 points
Honestly, can we stop acting like athleticism isn’t beneficial to a quarterback, and can we quit using the greatest draft outlier in NFL history as the only way to make this old point?
You will not believe this. Someone just had a pizza delivered to the Longaberger House for Urban Meyer - and it was the same delivery guy that delivered pizza to fans at the Urban rally
Jarvis Landry is why Ohio State's Brian Hartline doesn't wish his receivers good luck. "Ever since then, I don’t wish luck. I agree with him. Don’t tell me to be lucky. Tell me to be great. You’re right. We worked our tails off. Go be great.”
Chris Holtmann's boss on the day he was hired.
"We should be a top 15 program (in the country) all the time. Periodically top five ... This is what I think this place deserves."
Thad Matta was 38-29 his last 2 years, 18-18 in the B1G.
Last 2 years, Holtmann is 29-29, 8-24 in B1G.
Before everyone gets too excited about Baker Mayfield and Tyrod Taylor, remember that in last year's Browns preseason opener, Brock Osweiler was 6 of 14 for 42 yards.
The thing about this offense we think is dead -- Browns blocked Aaron Donald, got Jarvis Landry open and had a QB stand in and rip a middle of the field throw for a 27-yard gain on 3rd-and-15 in the final 2 minutes to keep hope alive against a Super Bowl team. Upside still there
I started out intrigued by the idea of Malcolm Jenkins as an option for the Cleveland Browns, and by the time I was done writing, I was rather excited about the idea of Jenkins as an option for the Browns.
If you are an Ohio State football fan, then hear Al Washington. And Teradja Mitchell. And Zach Harrison. And Taron Vincent. And Julian Fleming. And Josh Proctor. And Tyreke Smith. And TreVeyon Henderson.
We talked about this on Orange and Brown Talk. I hadn't seen it, but figured it was coming -- an attack on Browns fans for this video.
Go at Watson, go at the Browns for bringing him in, plenty of blame there.
But let fans like their football team. They didn't do any of this.
Hall of Fame GM Ron Wolf said the
@Browns
and others who embrace an analytics-driven model are "out of control."
Wolf: "When something goes wrong, who takes responsibility?
"Their answer: `Well, that's what the data told us.' What a crock. That's what got 'em 1-31."
To be clear, the most disappointing thing was the guys who are getting paid to play and coach utterly failing against an inferior opponent when it mattered most.
I must say, the former interim Ohio State coach who was replaced by a legend currently beating the mentor of the new Ohio State coach, who was hand-picked by the legend, the week before the former interim Ohio State coach plays the new Ohio State coach is a pretty interesting.
To be serious, acting like an Ohio State program that made the playoff 3 of the last 4 years hasn't "won much" is the kind of miserable thinking that makes everyone unhappy.
One team wins a title every year.
Is everyone else supposed to be an angry failure?
Open your mind Troy!
Holes in this Ohio State basketball roster but not in this coaching staff. Don’t let this season make you fret about Chris Holtmann and his assistants.
Sat down with Ohio State's Mark Pantoni last week to talk about this first recruiting season without Urban Meyer and what his future might hold. "It a hundred percent feels like home, and hopefully home for a long time."
Urban Meyer is trying to build a busy, meaningful professional life away from coaching. If he can do it, he really may never coach again. That might be a big if. “Those are some of the payback moments. You take away those moments and I would be concerned”
Chris Holtmann told a room full of sportswriters how when you miss the NCAA Tournament it feels like not getting invited to a party in a high school, and this news conference got very real for a moment.
