Much as I regret it, I don't believe the Dept of Ed when they say schools will open as normal on the 11th. I think most school staff and parents feel the same. It is difficult to see how this can happen safely. If the Minister has advice to the contrary, she needs to outline it

Very blasé attitude. If there are clusters, it certainly won’t be because of Principals, Teachers, & Boards of Mgmt. We have an education system that is overcrowded, underfunded, and understaffed. The Tánaiste’s Govt gave schools a mere 4 weeks to somehow mitigate that.

Minister Foleys speech was very disappointing generally. It had no real vision at all to transform our overcrowded, understaffed, and underfunded primary education system, and in area of special Education. Vision & funding badly needed now after the damage done by pandemic.

Last thought after tonight’s #rtept The work that schools, principals, teachers and school staff have put in to get schools back safely is phenomenal. Go raibh míle maith agaibh Certain commentators trying to demonise teachers and school staff should take stock and reconsider

We need urgent action to ensure that every child has an appropriate school place for September. Yet incredibly the Govt has voted against our motion seeking emergency legislation to do just that. They failed to plan, they are failing to act, they are failing these children

Very many teachers and school staff are being affected by Covid. Covid leave needs to reflect reality. These changes are retrograde and concerning. Will be raising with the Minister ASAP

Huge change here. Covid leave reduced from maximum 28 (if certified) to 10. I was still completely unable to work on Day 11 and still testing positive on antigen. I'd not be impressed if I caught covid in school to have to use sick leave to recover

Sinn Féin will bring a motion to the Dáil next week to call time on overcrowded classrooms. Having some of the biggest class sizes in Europe has added to the challenge of reopening schools. We must learn from the pandemic and take action now.

Minister Madigan claimed on @drivetimerte that there’s no child without an appropriate school place. I don’t believe that this is true. Do you have a child or know someone who doesn’t have an appropriate school place? Email Donnchadh.olaoghaire @oir .ie @AsIAmIreland @InclusionIre

This is very concerning. What is the value of the app if it is going to disregarded so bluntly? Surely a close contact, is a close contact, full stop? We cannot have lower standards for school staff. Will be raising with Minister for Education & Minister for Health & HSE

A powerful night last night. Thank you to everyone who came along, an incredible turnout. This is a time of great change in Irish Politics, and last night was further evidence of the appetite. We will keep on talking, will keep on engaging, and keep on listening to you.

There’s no excuse for this kind of behaviour. People are entitled to have different points of view and indeed to be protest about any issue they choose. But no one, not Roderic, nor anyone else, deserves to have this outside their home

Masked men harass Minister Roderic O'Gorman by covering his home in unfounded propaganda banners this evening. And it appears stopping a car in his street. Is this where we are now? Is your home no longer a safe space? Where will this end?

Just voted against Leo Varadkar to become Taoiseach. We know from his last term that Leo Varadkar has neither the ideas nor the policies to tackle the Housing Crisis and resolve the problems in Health This is not the change we need - we need an election & a change of Government

She hasn’t answered the questions of parents, students, teachers, opposition TDs or anyone else for that matter, so I don’t know what the FF TDs were expecting... This is a potential disaster. 131 days on, and no roadmap for reopening. Minister needs to tell us the plan, now

Today we remember Joe Murphy of Pouladuff rd who died on hunger strike this day 100 yrs ago, like Terence McSwiney. He is an enormous source of pride in Corks Southside. Great credit to his family and local community who greatly increased awareness of his life in recent years

How does Government value Special Education? ⚠️ If a child can’t get place in a special class they will be segregated from peers in a ‘special education centre’ ⚠️ huge staffing gaps in children’s disability network teams ⚠️ Still no announcement of SNA allocations in late May

I regret this is not 1st case like this I have heard. There is increasing concern among school staff & parents I speak to about approach to contact tracing in schools. @NormaFoleyTD1 & @DonnellyStephen need to ensure confidence in testing & esp tracing in schools. Will be raising
