I’m delighted to share that I’ll be the next President-Elect of

Together, we’ll work toward a strong, sustainable, and equitable health system for all.
The onus should not be on Canadians to ask for the same clinician or care team, to repeat traumatic stories at each point of care, or to compile tomes of health info to bring to appointments.
Continuity matters. I wrote why

Our “just for now”

policy choices will shape our next decade. Let’s choose ambitiously.
Primary care, not just walk-in care.
Home, not just a temporary bed.
Health, not just healthcare.

To health, public health, and SDOH leaders silent on the anti-Black racism and white supremacy happening right now:
Racism is a social determinant of health. It’s beyond time to take a stand, and use our platforms to speak up as allies in the fight against injustice.
To my white and non-black PH colleagues, when you choose to ignore or not engage in conversations centered around black issues, you're enabling racism. Your silence is heard and your inaction is felt.

@IlanShahin
is right. How do we reimagine a system that is the sum of its policy failures, and no longer works for people & clinicians?
Start w/ core values:
➡️ focus on relationships, not transactions
➡️ empower people/families/caregivers
➡️ prioritize joy in work
Primary care needs to be reimagined. In its current form, it’s resonating less with patients and our newest doctors are turning away. This could be this generation’s landmark acheivement, but it takes industrial quantities of idealism and humility. A challenge.

This sheep escaped a farm and spent 6 years in the mountains, during which time he grew 60 pounds of wool. Wolves tried to eat him, but their teeth could not penetrate the floof. You don't have to turn hard to survive the wolves, just be really, really soft and fluffy.
Despite our sunny September, we're back in April in
#COVID19
. To avoid disaster and protect lives, we have to continue many of the same sacrifices that got us through our first wave.
A thread of my three key messages. (1/5)
In summary:
Every person forced to go to a walk-in clinic represents a policy failure.
Walk-in clinics an important safety net, but everyone deserves a personal physician. Relational continuity forms the basis for quality care, choosing wisely, appropriate screening.
#onhealth
@NWOdoctor
@silvym98
@JoyHataley
@DocSchmadia
I do both. Very different. As a walk-in, you are an opportunity for a second opinion/oversight and for the patients without a family doc or a meaningful relationship, you’re an olive branch from the health care system. Esp for mental health, women’s health, transient pop, etc.
Happy to announce that we’re now “senior” masters health administration students! 👏

@TELUSHealth
Agree with
@drbobbell
. History shows us vexatious audits not way to inspire joy in work in our hard working health professionals.
Similar policies had terrible impact on our caring culture & on patients/families/caregivers.
Compare Cory Report to S. 15 Bill 138 (OHIP audit) .
Some differences- Bill 138 no improvement Sched. Benefits; reviewers not docs; appeal board has minority docs.
IMO
@OntariosDoctors
justified in concerns- Bill 138 needs work
It’s time to move beyond how the care happens, toward how we best build the care relationship. In-person and at distance, the dream is a trusted family doc for all, working closely with an interconnected team.
