The passing of

has allowed me a time of learning to better understand the British identity and love of country of my unionist friends and colleagues. It in no way dilutes my Irish identity. I offer my prayers for those who mourn her. May she rest in peace.
Let’s be under no illusion…Jamie Bryson does not want this place to work. He doesn’t have a mandate. He doesn’t even have a plan. All he can offer is disruption. I’m sure he is taking great delight in live tweeting the DUP meeting. Utterly childish and reckless behaviour. Gimp.

Sister Monica Joan just makes me want to do better. Her spoken truths just consistently inspire, uplift and console. Tonight was something very special
@CallTheMidwife1
I have been made aware of a video on social media showing a single mum being verbally abused.
This is reprehensible and would urge the occupant to report this to the PSNI. They are best placed to deal with this. This behaviour is not welcome in Lurgan or anywhere else
Question: Did Nolan’s rush to have a headline potentially jeapordise the deal? Had Sir Jeffrey and DUP had space to meet without such a glaring spotlight on them, could things have been different?
(Aware they have backed themselves into this corner)
Heading to see a couple of ol pals tonight. Few minutes to do a lateral flow and let it do its work. Takes no time to know you’re minimising the risks.

🧵This is such a gorgeous book from 1921. Filled with essays on some of Belfast’s finest. My own favourite is that of The Falls Road - my heritage. Never knew it’s origin: Tuath an bhfal (the district of the hedges)➡️

An absolutely bizarre scenario. For whatever reason, a DUP MLA embarking on a totally irrational witch-hunt against a medical professional. To add to that, this cannot even be challenged without a Twitter pile on. I despair of this place sometimes.
I’ve been told I’m being fired, being referred to GMC and now just have stuff blatantly made up.

'Up The Ra', once limited to IRA supporters, has not only entered youth culture, but will now enter the mainstream lexicon as a mantra for bucking established authority, expressing rebellion and, in a separate sense, as a visceral expression of tiumph over misfortune.
Delighted to have been selected by our local branches to represent the SDLP in the Mournes. A lot of work to do and I want to make sure that every voice is heard. Get in touch! 😄

To be fair to
@RobbieButlerMLA
, most of those levelling criticism at him right now were, based on their tweets, not present to hear what he had to say. You don’t need to agree with someone, but you do need to listen to them.
The wisdom and humility of James Martin is inspiring. His contribution tonight beautifully illustrates:
1) We are all humans. That’s it. End of.
2) All of us are part of something bigger - so what will our contribution to our shared home be?
Incredible.
@Mencap_NI
Shan't retweet today's images from Carla Lockhart or Johnny Mercer.
1) A person's health does not negate justice.
2) Please don't use the "appease" language of Foster. It didn't work in '17 and it won't work now.
3) John Patrick Cunningham. Remember his name.
Poor taste by the Irish News today. Art can be humorous and indeed provocative. This was snide, juvenile and wrong. Many will have been deeply hurt by this, and that hurt needs to be recognised and reconciliation sought. Let’s be better!

James, I grew up enjoying so much of your body of work. As an adult it still gives me (and members of my family) great joy. That's the enduring power of your work.
Also, more recently have enjoyed the interactions here and how skillfully you bat off these awful comments.

This is such a beautiful read and so personal. A great understanding of the genius of Tolkien and how his writings continue to help us understand and make sense of our complicated and broken human experience ❤️
Yesterday would have been my brother's birthday. The wound of his loss ached a little more sharply. I feel the truth in Frodo's lament to Sam about his own wound from Weathertop aching each anniversary: “I am wounded, wounded; it will never really heal”

The flooding in Downpatrick over the last few days is just horrific. People are still in total shock.
Being involved in politics it just breaks my heart that we cannot do more, while we are devoid of ministers who could act now and help people affected. If not now then when?
Tomorrow is the feast of All Souls. I feel quite close to my forebears tonight. In light of that, her are my words for what I hope I will see some day. Some beautiful day.

Remarkable the number of people who say the SDLP just hark back to former glories. I will celebrate the bravery and leadership of ‘98 at every single opportunity because of the privileges I now enjoy as a result of it. That’s why our work goes on. To finish the job.
On this day in 1998, the Referendum vote was held. People had genuine optimism for a better future. 25 years on we have yet to achieve genuine reconciliation and prosperity, but a way forward is possible.
Let’s start building a progressive, inclusive and thriving new Ireland.

The point Colum makes is well made: this disUnited Kingdom is not one of equality. A new chapter is being written in the story of Ireland…and it is one of hope and equality.
The British government must now clearly set out the criteria needed for any border poll in Northern Ireland so the people can decide on the future they want.
