No, it’s really not. History is filled with those who stood up against oppression and did so without lifting a gun.
'Up The Ra', once limited to IRA supporters, has not only entered youth culture, but will now enter the mainstream lexicon as a mantra for bucking established authority, expressing rebellion and, in a separate sense, as a visceral expression of tiumph over misfortune.

Remarkable the number of people who say the SDLP just hark back to former glories. I will celebrate the bravery and leadership of ‘98 at every single opportunity because of the privileges I now enjoy as a result of it. That’s why our work goes on. To finish the job.
On this day in 1998, the Referendum vote was held. People had genuine optimism for a better future. 25 years on we have yet to achieve genuine reconciliation and prosperity, but a way forward is possible.
