Got asked me why I don’t stick to tweeting about psychiatry and mental health recently As mental health professionals and doctors, it’s our duty to speak out against all the factors that contribute to mental illness - including poverty, racism and policies that perpetuate them.

Here’s why I recently resigned my psychiatrist position in NSW along with over 200 colleagues. Increasing pay will help fill vacant positions & resuscitate the dying system, but I won’t be returning for now. I’ve decided to practice what I preach & prioritise my mental health.

Relieved to hear of the ceasefire in Gaza, but painful to think of the thousands of lives lost unnecessarily in this genocide. An end to the oppression of Palestinians & illegal occupation of Palestine is the only hope for lasting peace. #GazaCeasefire

Far right Israeli football hooligans chanting hateful slogans, tearing down Palestinian flags & attacking people in Amsterdam was awful. Media & politicians should condemn it & police should have arrested them all. Retaliation by locals was uncalled for despite the provocation.

It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.
