Amos was a stellar scientist, mentor, collaborator, and editor. He cared as much as anyone about the reputation of Penn Chemistry. He cultivated a culture of excellence both at Penn and ACS. The impact of his 50+ years of service will be felt for a very long time. Sad day!
We are deeply saddened to share that our friend and colleague Professor Amos B. Smith III has passed away. Amos joined Penn in 1973 and was a mainstay in our organic chemistry division. He recently celebrated 50 years of service to @PennSAS @Penn.

Supramolecular chemistry lost a very kind, creative, supportive, and inspiring leader. Fraser's publications contain insights that will continue to move nanochemistry forward for years to come.
RIP to Fraser Stoddart. The world lost a giant of chemistry, but more importantly one of the nicest humans and role models I’ve encountered. You will be greatly missed.
