I started out-as-trans at a new job, because it was progressive and everyone said the right things and they really took the time to get my pronouns right. Like many trans women, I worried I would be deemed incompetent at my job for unknowable reasons. But surely not here.
We keep mentioning book lists because we're readers and writers: of course that's the kind of professional engagement we're most likely to brush up against.
I wanna encourage people to remember that trans women are treated like this in EVERY industry, ALL the time.
It's extremely cool to get insurance that finally makes "being trans" affordable, jump through the hoops to get a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, and then run into the problem of estradiol valerate and cypionate being simply unavailable at the pharmacy forever.
And none of this was *actively* transphobic, of course. It was all just coincidence, all "reasonable." Just my fears made manifest: the thinnest veneer of normalcy and acceptance, lacquered over the same judgemental hatred.
Within a month, I was being told that I was incompetent at work I had done with skill for nearly a decade. I would be criticized in one area of my job; when the problem was fixed or my ability improved, there would be no acknowledgement, just a new "area of concern."
An unseen, unacknowledged, but actively hostile environment emerged where I was incapable and hated for "reasonable" reasons that had nothing to do with my gender.
But when I mixed up the name of two female colleagues, it was treated as an intentional *misogynistic* slight. Or when I asked if my Casual Friday outfit was professional enough, my manager publicly shouted at me and hostilely said if I asked again it would be an HR violation.
In hindsight, it was clear that I was deemed unfit and unsuitable within weeks of my hiring. I was uniquely held to an impossible standard; my successes were ignored, my failures memorialized. No one is perfect at a new job in mere weeks—but it was expected of me.
(Hell, at one of the meetings with my manager, I was told it was "inappropriate" to bring a list of the successes I had over the past week, because that "distracted" from the criticisms I needed to be internalizing.)
Seven weeks in, I was told that my six-month evaluation would now be held at month three. I should have known; fool that I was, I thought I still had a chance.
Of course, the three-month evaluation was 30 seconds long: I was told I had learned my job "too slowly" and was fired.
"Power Antoinette"—the light novel adapted into a manga about Marie Antoinette gaining the physique of a 170kg powerlifter and single handedly saving the Ancien Régime with her muscles—is wonderful and also absolutely batshit insane
@Sinister_Sophia
I read an interview with the developers where they explained that in their opinion, one of the game's several endings is the ending where the player puts down the controller and never comes back. That has stayed with me.
the GF wanted to give this a shot because she had never seen it, and we made it through about 20 minutes. spoiler alert: it was never one of the smartest things on television, and it's misogynistic as fuck
Still can’t believe how Sherlock started off as one of the smartest things on television only to devolve into what felt like a Reddit-tier parody of a modern mystery series by the end.
No one talks about it anymore and any cultural impact it once had is irrelevant now.
every mech pilot needs a mechanic that hauls her out of her battle-damaged cockpit after a sortie, pins her against the kill markings stenciled along the armor under the canopy, and reminds her with a growl and clenched teeth that inefficient pilots are replaceable materiel, too
for me, this increasingly applies to media that is labelled sapphic but actually it's just two women passing the bechdel test; no shade on fandom generating fantastic content, but I'm tired of being baited into media where the lesbianism is like fruit flavor in sparkling water
My good friend Jill made this excellent "whoops Samus got infused with too many Metroid genes" fan art and I think a lot of you folks might like it????

I've figured out that the great joy of monster girl transformations is that there's just so much more to describe and to DO. You have all the parts of a regular transformations story, plus things like FUR and WINGS and ABOMINABLE STRENGTH and SPEAKING IN HELLISH TONGUES.
This article has the depth and smell of a spilled bottle of Old Spice. The 2005 Vice article about a good party needing a slutty transsexual was more progressive than this. I've seen videos on PornHub with more rizz. I'm making a donation to bear conservation in Gabe's name.
Autostraddle really fucking committing to the "trans men are men" bit, huh? Posting a fucking pick-up artist guide for trans men to land trans women? Fuck you, fuck off. "It's okay to use a little societal conditioning to our advantage"? What the FUCK.

for those keeping score on the transmasc pick-up artist autostraddle controversy
- autostraddle removed the "recent comments" sidebar on its main page (overwhelmingly negative)
- has deleted the tweet sharing a link to the piece
- still has the piece up!
Bee out here proving she has no familiarity with Battletech's completely reasonable explanation of "the reactor's ambient heat cooks the cockpit and requires our physically perfect, very sweaty pilots to strip down to their sports bras."
@chocodragon2619
Anakin's troubled, warbling, whiny voice, teetering on the precipice, and then being pulled back by a chaotic neutral Mace Windu? Yeah, that works for me.
After a lifetime of games with beautiful party members and 15 year-old protagonists and 35 year-old elderly warriors, it's so refreshing to just have some regular, ugly ass dudes.
our older next door neighbor is a piece of work who likes to snidely keep track of who is home and then comment on how little or much we use the kitchen facing her house ("now that Devi has moved in, you cook so much more!") and I don't like this so I've taken to cooking topless
I watched "Alien Resurrection" for the first time last night. The effects were wonky and the dialogue hit-or-miss, but it had Sigourney Weaver at her most feral and gay looming over every single member of the cast, so, it;s impossible to say if its bad or not,
I really appreciate the communication of Suletta's growth by her decreased lack of stuttering. She still stutters a bit when trying to explain the weirdness of Ariel and Ericht, but that comes across more as a recognition that she's about to say some Fucked Up Shit.
"It's interesting how in omegaverses by Japanese creators, the heat suppressants are covered by insurance, the tests/checkups are mandatory & performed regularly. I saw an American omegaverse where overpriced suppressants oppressed characters and thought it was distinguishing."
<gets really close to the mic> our books aren't open to interpretation: the mech pilots are lesbians and they get gay married and they gay fuck in the cockpits of their mechs
With monsters at the gates, the gods must choose pilots for their war machines. Hades has found hers—in the killer cyborg Persephone.

"This unique and interesting facet of your artistic style? It has been removed. Thank me."
(This isn't even touching on the fact that the two things that ARE red and sensual in the original are a cigarette holder and a CROWBAR, which is A+ artistry and also Peak Helga Sinclair.)
@Kalindlara
"That's a suspiciously specific request, but okay" in Samuel L. Jackson's voice has entered my lexicon to the point that it might as well be canon.
@benjanun_s
there's a lot to hate about that screenshot, but I feel the most revulsion at the "stayed"; the belief that a gay man and a trans woman are *the same* is one of the most pernicious arguments I've experienced in my own life
(a lot of queers ascribe to this belief, too)
I'm like those dumbasses on reddit who shoot themselves with pellets to "build up their immunity" to larger bullets, except that for the past six months I've been drawing with the injection syringe and injecting my E with the draw needle
anyways I'm a butch now
mad props for the protagonist of "The Fed Up Office Lady Wants to Serve the Villainess" being like "I know your plans to genocide a fuck ton of people, but you make me feel wanted and important, and I like being an enabling tool of power"
and, I mean, I'd be down bad, too
Friends, I have another story to share with you all, in which a warlock and a demon grapple with their FEELINGS and their friendship.
It's got all the things you love in a Devi story: TRANSFORMATIONS and CONVERSATIONS and SEXY DEMONS!
(And gender feels.)

me, looking at "18% campaign progress": oh honey
Jesus Christ, that's a lot of engagement. I don't know, buy my lesbian urban fantasy book or something. My writing kept me sane and brought in money after I was fired.
"Chorus" is a fun space-combat shooter. It also involves a butch lovingly resting her hand on her sentient fighter craft and saying "I need to do terrible things again, and there's no one else I can do them with."
Also the game is $15 on Steam for 12 more hours.
There are two wolves inside of me, struggling to make porn.
One is a fluffy wolfgirl that has anime tiddies and likes lewd handholding.
The other is the cabin monster from "Annihilation," and it screams in a too-human voice "yooouuuu neeeed mooooore wooooorld buuuuilding."
One of the trans men mad at me claims trans women like me because I'm cis and trans women revere the 'purity' of my cis womanhood. A thing that trans women famously do.
There's a word for the exact short of chucklefuck that understands gendered violence and social pressure and threat evaluation, and then consciously applies that knowledge to manipulate his target by appearing as the less threatening option.

The game is ΔV: Rings of Saturn! I just picked it up this week; haven't had a chance to play it much, but it does have a DLC that changes all of the astronauts to furries, so who can say if it is bad or not,
Honestly if a woman tells you not to call her dude/guy/bro, if you say 'sorry my bad' I don't think anyone will hound you about it. For some reason though, everyone keeps doing the ACKSHUALLY IT'S GENDER-NEUTRAL, YOU HYSTERICAL BITCH routine.
