If states pushing vouchers didn’t have the lowest public school spending rates, you might listen when they say they want to help kids. But when they have all the $$ in the world for vouchers & little for pub schools, it’s hard to stomach. Texas ranks 43.

Federal judge rejects claim that parents have right to opt child out of LGBTQ related curriculum. Corrects the growing misconception that the right “to control upbringing” of one’s children means the right to micromanage public school curriculum & policy.

After failing in TX, the dark money behind school vouchers is coming for TN. DeVos, Walton & Koch are dumping money in the state and deviously attacking Republican holdouts as supposedly opposing money for public schools too. 1/

Just in case ⁦ @BetsyDeVosED ⁩ was considering pulling a fast one on the way out the door, plaintiffs ask for permanent injunction and federal court grants it, blocking any possibility of additional misdirection of CARES Act funds to private schools.

Study confirms what ⁦ @SchlFinance101 ⁩ ⁦ @DrPrestonGreen ⁩ myself & others said years ago: Hiring, firing, & retaining teachers based on their students’ test scores won’t work. More precisely, study shows effect is “close to zero.” 1/x

Nation’s schools dead center in perfect storm. 3 yrs into national teacher shortage. Pipeline of new ones dried up decade ago. Senior teachers delayed retirement to keep things afloat. Pandemic changed that. Nasty days ahead if states/feds don’t act. 1/x

How can Florida claim to give students any real school choice when it underfunds & understaffs public schools? 5,000 classrooms w/o teachers, more overcrowded classes, & $2.5 billion underfunding annually suggests it wants them to leave.

Which state is sitting on $32 billion surplus, has constitutional duty to provide education, & a school funding level among lowest in the nation? The one w/ governor who refuses to address the problem because he wants private school vouchers instead.

We are in trouble if donors behind privatizing public education are so powerful that they can exact vengeance. Aiming for political payback, Gov. Abbott plans to spend primary season undercutting those who defied him on vouchers. Strangely personal issue.
