Transport system design largely appears incoherent to users since markets are not socially designed. Fixes can be delivered using current powers. My latest blog for @TransportTimes

Could the UK Treasury's 20% VAT on public EV charge points, compared to lower home charging VAT, stall the EV transition? Thoughtful local and policy designs are crucial for a fair shift away from petrol and diesel. Explore more with @DerekHalden

My latest article for @TransportTimes seeks to cut through some of the prevailing pessimism about the ability of society to transition quickly to sustainable transport approaches.

A critical message for any business that has forgotten that "ethics is not something you can hand over to the ethics department but how you actually do business" sometimes professionals forget that they have a social purpose

What does professionalism mean, and why did Durkheim think that roles in industry and trade were not professional? I discussed this topic @CISI (and will write more about it in a forthcoming book)

For a long term advocate of weathering steel in bridge construction like me it is great to see the community in Sighthill Glasgow really get behind their rusty bridge and for those who like painted bridges I see some of the locals have been obliging

@iaindocherty @CNERail Indeed it is a problem for many folk which is why we need a higher profile to be given to planning accessibility not just as public policy but in day to day practice. I am sure you can afford a taxi but not everyone can.

Governments failing again is useful reminder of unjustified optimism bias towards top down action - a far more hopeful future is possible by recognising unjustified pessimism bias towards bottom up solutions - time to boost our moral ambition @rcbregman

@tvanvuren You are absolutely right in the points you make but incorrect to suggest I was saying otherwise. BCRs should not have some unique status - I did not say they were not useful just "no more useful". At least for me success requires more balance than that.

COMMENT 🗣️ | @AlexWarner5 laments the demise of maps: "At a time when getting folk to want to make a journey is more of a challenge than pre-Covid, titillating potential public transport users with the ‘art of the possible’ is really important" 🗺️🚍🚆 ➡️

@hannon_matthew @andywightman @nature_scot @scotgov @alastairmci @_JamieMcIntyre @andrew_thin Are you asking the question the right way round Matt? The world is awash with cash to invest in offsetting projects and the question is what social and economic constraints the state is asking of the investors in return for rights to invest.

@StreetWurrier Certainly skilled professionals needed but subcontracting designs like this can actually make accountability clearer allowing the council to claim damages incurred by the obvious incompetence if the design
