I’d argue it’s not. I reached out to UVA days ago to understand what plan was in place and I’m continuing to reach out now to understand what is happening now. It does not match what I was told. Violence is NOT an appropriate response to peaceful protesting.
You know what's easier to win than an Albemarle County School Board seat? An unearned appointment to the State Board of Education from Gov. Youngkin.
Today starts Meg Bryce's term on the Board and while I'm disappointed, I am not shocked that the Governor would rather appoint a
From my old office in

have made gun violence prevention and gun safety measures a top-line priority and I can't wait to work with my colleagues to protect our communities.
Today's budget message from Gov. Youngkin takes us backwards. Rather than providing real relief to Virginia families, he's only offering to game our already broken state tax code to benefit the wealthy while jacking up the sales tax to the disadvantage of the average consumer. ⤵️
Today, I took my seat as Delegate from the 54th House of Delegates District. It’s a privilege to participate in this history-making General Assembly and represent the place I have served and call home: Charlottesville and Albemarle.
I’ve had many conversations over the last 48 hours and not all of them have led to satisfactory answers. I encourage those of you who have your own questions to attend UVA’s community town hall tomorrow, Tuesday, 5/7 at 12:15. Anyone can watch the live stream, but if you want to
This morning, I spoke with

After Trump’s campaign rally in Richmond, I took to the floor to remind my colleagues across the aisle that extremism of all forms has no place in Virginia.
Honored to be appointed to the Indigent Defense Commission. VIDC manages 28 Public Defender Offices across Virginia and is dedicated to providing zealous, compassionate, high quality legal advocacy for those who can not afford their own attorney. We are lucky that Charlottesville
We're losing qualified voices on city councils because they are undercompensated for their work. My bill HB456 gives city councils the same autonomy that Boards of Supervisors have to set their salaries based on the needs of their locality and the will of their voters.
Thank you to

I hit the ground running this week to
#KeepVirginiaMovingForward
with 14 bills on housing, social services, gun safety, local gov't, and criminal justice reform. I also filed a number of budget amdts. on abortion access and local priorities like the Tonsler League among others.
When contemplating a bill that would take away the rights of millions to seek reproductive healthcare, I think it is important to consider how it would work, how it affects real people, and who it would harm. This proposed bill from Del. Griffin would have limited women’s access
This morning, I joined Fmr. House Democratic Ldr. David Toscano, Del. Amy Laufer, and impacted Virginians to show my continued support for Harris-Walz because we can’t afford to go back on the progress we’ve made on healthcare with the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion.
Such a privilege to join the Office of Gun Violence Prevention at the White House to discuss the work we can do as legislators to curb needless gun related deaths. I shared the need to invest in community based violence interruption programs (like our very own

🎉 I've got two big legislative updates to share today:
HB 454 prohibits firearms on public college campuses passed the House (51-48)!
HB 27 establishes the Kinship as Foster Care Prevention Program passed the Appropriations Health & Human Resources Subcommittee (8-0)!
🎉🥳 My first bill has made it out of committee. HB 456 grants cities more autonomy to set their council salaries. The bill reported out of full committee with bipartisan support.
A productive day: headed down to Richmond to pass the VMSDEP bill and then returned home in time to speak to the Charlottesville Human Rights Commission. (
@CreighDeeds
did all that too and presided over the senate)

Probation incentives are a tried and true model that reduce recidivism and encourage rehabilitation and pro-social behavior. My bill HB 457 to provide probation incentives for individuals on supervised probation passed subcommittee yesterday with bipartisan support! ⬇️
So grateful that we came together and passed meaningful legislation to improve the lives of children and families in crisis. These bills provide support, services, and dollars to help children stay with relatives when they might otherwise have entered foster care. They prioritize

Shameful veto statement about a shameful past. Republicans refused to remove the Daughter’s of the Confederacy as a singled-out, cherry-picked tax exempt org because…….that is unfairly singling them out. 🤡 🪞 Pic is the veto statement and then a pic of one of the proposed bill
