Four months ago I was hired as an entry level IT Security Auditor in the gov sector.
Last week I was offered a Sr. GRC Analyst position. They found me via LinkedIn.
Total Compensation Package: Base + Bonus + RSU (stocks) $199k.
I accepted. God is amazing! 😇
I start my new job next week! ☺️
The company sent me Apple products/equipment.

If you decide to work more than one tech job remotely, that should be between only you and Jesus. Read again. Do with this info as you will.
I’d be lying if I said my new job hasn’t changed my overall quality of life. I think this the 1st time I looked forward to work and what I do each day. My paychecks even after taxes are amazing and I’m not even at the mid point of what ppl make in this field. I am truly BLESSED!
What tech has done for me in the past 12 months:
- Remove $15k in credit card debt
- Save/Invest $37k
- Increase my credit scores to 760+
- Qualify me solely for a mortgage/investment property
- Travel internationally (10 trips taken/planned)
- Buy my first designer pieces
You can work in cybersecurity and have a non-technical role. This area that falls under cybersecurity is called GRC (governance, risk & compliance). Long story short, you’re ensuring organizations have proper controls, safeguards, policies, recovery plans etc. in place in event

Lmaoooo it definitely takes 4-5hrs! I just used a pressure cooker most recently and it cut it down to 2 hrs! I was AMAZED at how tender it came out. But never 45 mins 👎🏾
Get laser focused on your goals and stop procrastinating. You can say you want, you wish, God make a way all you want BUT nothing will change if you don’t act and be consistent. Take action on the life you want! Sacrifice the next six months to a year to live how you want later.
Your iPhone shows u spent 12+ hrs this week on social apps.
In 12+ hrs you couldve completed multiple trainings, studied, did a free course w/ an exam voucher, applied for jobs, worked on your resume, networked etc., THIS WEEK ALONE
IF YOU WANT THIS, GET RID OF DISTRACTIONS!
Cybersecurity can really take you far. Once you get in, get some experience under your belt and have a couple certs, you can apply to do contracts overseas in places like Doha, Dubai, Singapore and so on.

Its FREE info. Much of it is from my personal career journey. I don’t gatekeep. Your blessing won’t ever interfere w/ mine.
I HIGHLY recommend looking into contract opportunities to build experience. I did contract work for three years and gained risk/compliance skills. For one job I applied, had a one off interview, completed onboarding and started ALL within 10 days!! Their processes are 10x faster.
Accenture, Deloitte Consulting, Insight Global, Beacon Hill, Kelly Services, IBM Consulting, The Judge Group, Apex Systems, Robert Half, Pyramid Consulting Inc., CSI Companies.

You either gon sacrifice six months of your time or be ok staying in the same position. It's your life and career.
Im just here to say you can have alot more and be happier if you made the short sacrifice.
Point of View: God laughed at my two year plan and made my next two goals happen in four months.
Stay in faith. Be patient. Stay consistent. Give thanks.
Goodnight! 💜💜
Two years ago I made a third of my current pay.
I paid off over $12k in debt.
Doubled my emergency savings. Close to 12 months of expenses.
My credit score is up 80 points (very good).
I’m preparing to make a real estate investment by Fall 2024.
Life can change…FAST
I recommend these two books. Expand your vocabulary and train your mind to understand how words should be used. Bonus, you may even learn how to sell yourself in an interview. My dad used to make me read a lot when I was younger. It’s my job to keep learning.
Week 1 complete in my new Senior GRC Analyst role.
They shipped off my iPhone 15 pro max work phone, Apple monitors, and company credit card today!
I’m excited to FINALLY get the ISACA membership and I can charge my Sec+ exam fees, etc. to this card.
My linkedin account is solid. Any recruiter can input keywords such as NIST CSF, IT Audit, GRC, Security, etc. and I will appear in their search results.
Easily 10 recruiters in my inbox in the past week or so.
MAKE YOUR LINKEDIN ACCOUNT STANDOUT! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
If you work in the GRC Cybersec space and master PCI-DSS, SOX Control Testing, or FISMA framework, you will never go without a job! Just my personal opinion. These are highly sought after areas of expertise and will forever be in demand on all levels including government.
If you want to be applying for jobs by August, then you have roughly EIGHT months to get some things done.
Maybe you get your Sec+, complete a training in a tool (Azure, OneTrust, Archer, ServiceNow, etc. - GRC tools), and work on getting the CRISC.
This is doable in 8 months!
Attention: We start the Sec+ 45 day challenge this coming Monday June 3, 2024.
Guide will be posted by Saturday 6/1.
We testing anytime between July 17-24th. 7/31 is the last day with the current SY- 601 material before the exam is changed.
What’s been a game changer though is my resume & mock interviewing.
Once you get the call, that’s where you MUST shine. Never wing it.
I prepared a 2 page document, researched the interviewers & strategically answered the questions using keywords from the JD & their website.
LISTEN TF UP NOW!!!!!!!
I JUST purchased my Security+ exam and used discount code ( GOOGLESECURITY2024) for 30% off. The price was reduced from $404 to $282!

I say again…
Personal Advice on pivoting into

with ZERO experience:
- Research the area/roles you want
- Review JOB DESCRIPTIONS for key skills
- Strategize how to acquire said skills
- Obtain skills via trainings, classes, certifications, projects etc.
I highly recommend this guy set of flashcards on Quizlet. They’re just like the text book. You can tell some ppl made their cards in ways it make sense to them (wording wise) and it was throwing me off.
There are real entry level roles in GRC.
Some require 0 direct YOE but you will need professional job experience.
It is an easier path of entry compared to most areas in tech.
It is less technical. 9/10 you wont code.
Yes you can transfer your skills.
Two things you should obtain to increase your chances of landing a cybersec/GRC role (my personal opinion)
A good understanding of basic cyber fundamentals. (Take the sec+ by comptia or take a cybersecurity training by IBM, Microsoft or Google for example)
THEN
2023 was a great year for me professionally.
February: I completed some additional GRC trainings.
June: Landed my first six-figure tech role in the Gov sector paying $107k.
November: Received an offer of a lifetime w/ a dope org w/ the benefits to match totaling $199k.
I am excited to announce that I just earned the Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals (SC-900) Certification from

Microsoft
Google
Comptia Sec+
All offer trainings and most are free.
Let’s talk about 2 certifications many individuals obtain for GRC and IT Audit careers.
✨CRISC: Certified Risk Information Systems Control.
The CRISC certifies expertise in identifying and managing enterprise IT risk and implementing and maintaining info systems controls.
Professor Messer has a total of 177 videos on YT covering everything for the Security+.
The videos are anywhere from 2-10 minutes long.
If you do 20 videos a day, you would have reviewed EVERYTHING in 2 weeks. We have six weeks.
Tomorrow is Day 1 of our 45 Day Challenge to get the security+ certification.
I need you to pray, dig deep and push yourself b/c you can do this! Do it for yourself, if not those depending on you to live. This could be the beginning of the change you desire.

I am NO DIFFERENT than you!
I procrastinated like hell.
I started and stopped.
I contemplated quitting.
I lost my fire and got it back.
I just never gave up and kept reminding myself, life can be so much better if I focused for longer sprints.
I have one resume geared towards GRC roles and it’s gotten recruiters approaching me for titles such as:
Info Security Analyst
GRC Analyst
IT Compliance Analyst
IT Risk Project/Program Manager
IT Scrum Master
Senior IT Auditor
Security Governance Analyst
There is a huge need for IT Project Managers. This role doesn’t need to be overly technical.
You’re overseeing, managing and ensuring a project goes according to plan and budget.
You can learn these skills and become PMP or CAPM certified. PM’s earn $140k on average.

Cybersecurity jobs are not going away! If anything they’re coming in HOT!
You need to get ready to land a new role or pivot!
Stop moving out of fear. Get your stuff together and be ready to ACT!
Believe in yourself!
Remember, GRC is one of the less technical areas of cyber so my skills transferred over nicely.
I will continue to pursue and work hard towards building up my cyber knowledge.
Certs I intend to gain: CRISC, CISA, Sec+, MC-900. Always learning. It never ends in tech.
A young lady landed her first IT Cybersecurity role in less than sixty days completing a tuition FREE training program with Per Scholars. Check them out!!
In your 20s you hustle, fall down, make mistakes, dig yourself into some debt for sure.
Your 30s, oh baby this is where you start to flourish if you get your mind on track and be strategic.
Just glad it only took me 2.5 years to clean up my mistakes made.
My Pivot to Tech Journey:
8 years in banking - mortgage/customer service. Switched gears to risk/compliance. Ops Risk, Identity Access Mgmt, etc. which led me to become an Internal Misconduct and Ethics Investigator. Later led to AML/Fraud/Cyber Attack Investigations.
I'm jotting down roles in cybersecurity to discuss soon. I'm going to find some postings and we can get a better idea of the day to day to hopefully aid some of you in what direction to go in. Cybersecurity can take you down a million paths and we do not have time to waste!
