Tomorrow marks 17 years completely abstinent from drugs/ alcohol. From street level using class As & anything else I got my hands on. Took me to jail/ institutions and close to death. After decades I got clean through help of other ‘addicts’ - If I can help drop me a message

21 years - only months out of the last sentence / doing rehab/ her family mortified/ my family not really interested (except my sister) - most gave us a few nights / weeks at a push.

I wake up 20 years clean /sober tomorrow. This night 2 decades ago I was on opiate blockers to stop me using smack,so I just smoked crack. While my despairing wife & 2y/o son slept, I cleaned windows of our 1 bed flat into early hours. So much achieved since then,to the next 20

This weekend is Father's Day, it also marks 18 years clean. Last time using I was washing our flat windows at 4am after smoking class A's all night. Dylan, just weeks away from being two. Missing out his early years. Been fully present since. My own choose(s) to keep drinking

For the few asking. Tash is out of surgery and doing well. Lots of morphine, but good. Her mum has arrived. Old school scouser, aged 73. Brought a giant suitcase that included defrosting ‘best’ mince, some sausages, green tomatoes picked too early & defrosting loaf.

I have been going into

since the 1990s of all types, from high security to open prisons, not only in the UK, but in the US, Australia, New Zealand. I can count on one hand the number of prisoners I've met that I think under current arrangements shouldn't be in prison.

Today I reached the same age my mum was when she died. I'm 51. She died of lung cancer, she was prescribed lots of pills for lots of stuff..Mostly as a result of abusive nuns and men. If I keep off the cigs and gear and Tash suffers me for another year - I should see another one

After busy day in London and work Christmas celebration, I do the long drive home to this. - being spoilt on birthdays was quite alien until I reached 28 - everyone since I’ve been made to feel special.

Important to note some of those that offer 'expert' commentary on our CJ S/ prisons massively talk up their knowledge / real world experience. Ask them how many prisons they've been in lately/ ask them their last governor grade/ ask where & when/ ask about probation experience

Arrived at my mum- in-laws - staying in the room where I had many attempts to withdrawal from class As. To do my first talk on home turf & probably the last on this book - just up the road from the local jail where many of us ended up and where least 3 of us never made it out

If you’d have told me about my privilege growing up on the estate my brothers, and my step dad - you may have not liked the response. I’d have never seen it then but I do now. This ain’t signalling/ nonsense -it’s real .. from shops to school to (police) chases - it was real.

This- Days before I give up fellowship for new role with PRT. My journey - un-recognised dyslexic/dyspraxic expelled15 unable read/ write; years an addict; institutions/jails. Paroled did access course/ degree (1st) MA (merit) / no revisions PhD Oxford. BA & Leverhulme ECF.
32 years ago today I ran away from violent home w my 3 small children to a

Dylan got robbed walking home from his pub shift… took £50 wages & threw his wallet in the river. Second time robbed-he’s shaken but continues:‘it’s the way it is’. He’s 6,3, not vulnerable.Not reported & minimised with peers. Common for boys/young men to not want to be victims

I have an almost like second job that helps me keep in touch with the real world & helps refine my skills to better do my primary role.. I'm a trustee for a charity & happily do it for nothing - remember the 'big society' push to give freely - second jobs should be without pay
