Thank you. To every first responder, for everything you do, we want to say thank you. It’s been a really big week and we know there is a big task ahead. We couldn’t do it without you.

Warren Pitt has left a legacy in the Far North he can be proud of. He served the people of Mulgrave for almost two decades in the Queensland Parliament and held many senior portfolios. He was strong in his beliefs and his love of his state. Before politics he was a teacher and remained a champion for young people in our state. My thoughts go to his family including his son Curtis, who followed in his footsteps of service.

We’ve got another mass deployment of SES from across Australia here to help. They’re heading into impacted communities today with the Queensland Fire Department also establishing a base in Ingham. Thank you for helping North Queenslanders in their hour of need.

We will rebuild the bridge crossing at Ollera Creek better than ever to strengthen the Bruce Highway. And we’ve got Canberra committed to helping fund it. Thank you to the ADF who have just opened the temporary bridge to allow essential services into Ingham. We’re working overtime until the job is done.

BREAKING: We’ve got the substation back online in Ingham. Power is now flowing to the first of the homes. We’ve got crews working hard to get energy back to the whole region.
