For a few reasons (1. for reasons of space I needed flash specifically, and 2. actually I don't want a *bad* piece per se, just one with both strengths and weaknesses) I ended up going with "Gas" by Alfred Hitchcock and "I hoisted them, two drug dealers" by Diane Seuss
I need an example of a mediocre short story to use as the subject of a Practice Workshop so I can introduce students to the workshop model and what constitutes constructive criticism before we actually start discussing peers' hard work. Not terrible--but not publishable, either.
