Passionate about those I love and relentless in pursuit of peace, justice, and equality. Poli Sci grad student.
@SwirlyTales
for CLAW and dholf writing updates.
"It's just a joke."
Alopecia's an autoimmune disease & as someone with two (they like to run in groups), they're painful and heartbreaking. Your partner and family will literally watch you suffer with them.
Making fun of someone's suffering was never funny. Ableism isn't funny.
PSA: All of y'all so-called "allies" going hard on Lil Nas X and screaming about "furry appropriation"?
Just know we BIPOC and marginalized people see you. 😚
We know you won't keep this same energy against our oppression, but oh do we see you. 😃😃😃
My family: When you grow up, you'll abandon all your stuffed animals
Me as an "adult": Random stuffed animals randomly appear on my screen every time you look at me.
The main issue at heart to the dred issue is just how much white people have felt entitled to Black life, culture, and Black bodies, while shaming us for said things.
If you can't begin with that foundation for our anger, don't engage and try to strawman the conversation.
I guess this is what a viral tweet feels like.
Nothing to plug atm, but as Patton Oswalt said in his Netflix special, "It's chaos out there. Be kind." ☺
@Johnnthelefty
Please don't frame the fandom like this. We DO NOT have a history of alt-right ties; in fact, the furry fandom has a history of vehemently opposing far-and alt-right movements and rooting them out when discovered. There's a reason why they speak of being shunned in their logs.
Couple of things y'all should keep in mind:
Workers rights came after intense RIOTS.
Civil Rights Act of 1968 came after intense RIOTS
The first pride, STONEWALL, was a RIOT.
Power is NEVER ceded peacefully.
Oh, and since today is MLK Day, to any allies that follow me, read Letters From a Birmingham Jail today. Don't coddle yourself with the tame, pacifist, milquetoast MLK that white conservatives trot out to make you feel better about how shit hasn't changed much over 60 years.
Yeah, you can go ahead and play the HP game. No one is literally going to stop you.
But please remember, actions have consequences and if your trans and queer friends stop rolling with you, it's because you made a choice and they did, too.
Don't be a fair-weather ally, folks.
Just gonna toss this out there for any furry organizations who are suddenly looking for Black people to promote:
Hi. I'm Kirisis aka KC Alpinus, an award-winning furry editor, author, and political activist. I know a LOT of Black furry authors who would love the chance to chat.
This fandom has a lot of good people, but when y'all are silent and don't drag the jokers into the light, allowing their evil and viciousness to propagate, you're consenting to and condoning everything that they're doing.
A lot of y'all white folks have NEVER been scrutinized to the degree that the average Black person has and never will. Before you reach for anger or dismay, really think on what we're all saying. Stop trying to argue and just listen for once.
How many of y'all preach about "ASK CONSENT" but feel no shame in running your fingers through Black curls or touching Black dreds, long before you thought to ask if you could?
How many people have told you your hair was dirty, when you KNOW your Momma spent hours washing it?
I've been going back and forth over this in my mind for the past day or so and I can't sit on it any more because it's pissing me off.
It's pissing me off not because I got slurred and booted out of a "Political Chat", but that it was deemed free speech.
I'm Kiri. I'm a diabled "Evil Editor" who still sleeps with stuffed animals and writes about sabertoothed cat goddesses, dragons, and all things magical. Check out my book: SOAR: Volume 1 from Goal Publications! Also, come chat with me about books! :D
@solarsaber_
How are Black girls supposed to sound? Like are we supposed to sound loud and rude? Or high-pitched and vapid? You sound like a normal young adult lol.
This is a personal pet peeve of mine, so I have strong feelings on this comment and whether they meant it or not, it's bigoted.
Thanks y'all, but if ya'll really want to help us celebrate, you can help make some Black American furries GOH sometime soon. I know a few that have been putting in the work *coughsChise* and deserve the recognition.
We'd sho'nuff appreciate it.
Today marks the first day Juneteenth is being officially observed as a US federal holiday, to commemorate the emancipation of Black American slaves and celebrate Black American culture. Happy Juneteenth, everyone!
It infuriates me to no end when I see people spouting "I'm a Christian!" but peddling everything Christ was against.
The greatest commandment was "Love One Another", no subtext, no exceptions, no buts.
How can you love one another but feel fine seeing people being brutalized?
@TeamYouTube
@chescaleigh
You [YouTube, Inc] have no interest in stopping this phenomenon because it drives clicks, which generate ad revenue. Your whole platform is driven by RW rhetoric and vitriol, with cat videos and reaction vids thrown in. If you truly cared, you'd have stopped this 10yrs ago.
Our hair is our pride and joy, a link to who we were, who we are, and what we will become. Even while being beaten, starved, and stripped of our dignity, we had our hair, until they shaved that, too.
Our hairstyles are deeply rooted in our culture and connect us
Oh, don't delude yourself into thinking that
#MLK
was only concerned with Black justice and Black equity. It's from his example that I learned to fight for all, especially so Indigenous & Native rights because of my country's overwhelming injustices done towards them as well.
Who have been cut off from our homes, history, and original cultures, to those who are still there.
This convo is so much more than just "we don't want white people wearing dreds", but y'all don't want to hear that.
Who here felt shame when that little girl came home with a damn near a shaved head because her white teacher felt entitled to her body and hair?
Who cried when Don Imus called the Rutgers University girls "nappy headed hos", a dig at their hair and sexual lives?
Not Native/Indigenous, but it pisses me off how people just disregard their voices when they ask folks to not take the item that they hold in high regard (certain feathers, sage, war bonnets, etc) and degrade their meaning and purpose and folks are like "lol u mad?"
With you on this subject.
But I'm tried of trying to educate people who want to remain ignorant or being forced to justify my hair and work.
That's just genuine trolling and not worth my time.
If you can't connect or understand what they're saying here, you'll never understand the Dredlocks conversation.
That said, if you want to start, check out documentaries like "Good Hair" or even "Hair Love". If you watch those and are genuine, then I'll happily have a dialogue
@SethWolfbaine
@JoeyIsABuck
Not even mentioning the ethical violations and crimes against humanity when Nazi scientists "experimented" on Jewish people. *shudders*
More BIPOC GoHs and Con Chairs or on Con Boards. I would like to see us represented at every stage of cons and not just in ancillary roles.
There are a lot of active BIPOC who are making real waves in the furry community and the world at large, and they should be recognized.
#fursofcolor
What's good? I'm Kiri, a Black & Disabled chick who is a published author, an award-winning editor, TTRPG editor, and Zine-writer. Here are the covers to some things I've worked on!
I also love books, so please feel free to talk to me about them or your writing!
@ReignOfApril
Like folks said, we're out here losing jobs, dying to COVID, with rising rent and grocery prices and he thinks we gonna spare the little energy we have on discussing him? A non-issue?
And if you truly want to open your mind to this issue, here's a song I heard back in 06'.
Really listen to what India Arie and Akon are saying about Black Diaspora hair and our struggles with authenticity in a white world.
I love playing a healer. In pretty much any game (tabletop, board, mmorpg, etc), that's where you'll find me.
But God help you if you stand in an AOE. You'll die waiting on me to heal you.
LQRT: Not picking on any particular con, but it does feel a bit performative to see stuff like "Happy Juneteenth", but our efforts go largely unnoticed. There are so many Black (and POC, but for today, focusing on us) whose talents largely go unnoticed for GOH positions.
I got called "crazy" for saying that yes, I firmly believe Russia is really hyping the disinformation machine. Even had one fur say that they [bots] weren't this smart and weren't producing this kind of rhetoric.
Damn, guess all my research wasn't exactly bs, eh?
Quick thread:
I want you all to meet Vladimir Bondarenko.
He’s a blogger from Kiev who really hates the Ukrainian government.
He also doesn’t exist, according to Facebook.
He’s an invention of a Russian troll farm targeting Ukraine. His face was made by AI.
Goal hired me when nobody else would. They allowed me, a disabled Black woman, to cultivate anthologies and novels that broadcast BIPOC, trans, and women authors and supported me when I needed it.
Please go buy some books. Don't let them go gently into the dark night.
Hello all. It's with a lot of emotion that we've just made a very, very important post on our page. Please take a look:
We've messaged our authors about this already, and figure it's just time to make it live.
You know those hills that I love to die on? Well "Fandom doesn't pay writers well" is one of them.
Buckle in children, Ms. Kiri's gonna tell you a story about furry publishing, paying authors, and supporting said authors via book sales!
Thread!
Guys, Gals, and Non-Binary Pals, this is who I'm supposed to defend my positions about Black hair to and "debate" honestly (me, not them).
The level of intellectual dishonesty and sophomoric takes are wild.
Guess I gotta start twerking again...
@teranentwii
@Miles_DF
No one has been silenced and no one is talking about making him "an ideal version that appeals more to their liking."
Miles posted a piece that promotes bigotry and white supremacy. Go educate yourself on what "America First" means and why even Dr. Seuss called it out and STFU.
@JoeyIsABuck
@SethWolfbaine
*tilts head and throws back head to laugh* Silly troll, your slurs do not affect me, I've played on X-box live. Try harder and do better.
@Imani_Barbarin
I'm glad I'm of the camp that believes that you shouldn't put every silly little thought that crosses your mind into writing and on public display.
Wow, I'm so very honored to have been nominated and to have received this award. It's bittersweet because the person who encouraged me to fight for what's right and push for justice and equality, isn't here for me to tell her.
But in my heart, I know that she knows. ❤
The Furry Writers Guild would like to honour
@SwirlyTales
with the Oxfurred Comma Inclusivity Award, for all your work in promoting diversity and equality in all you do.
Shout out to my Indigenous & Native friends and kinfolk. I love y'all and celebrate y'all everyday, but especially today because of your resilience and heart in refusing to be silenced by a system that tried its hardest to exterminate y'all.
#HappyIndigenousPeoplesDay
@sdac28
@FardaRose
"I don't do dark skinned women"
"You'd be cuter if you were lighter"
And all the other bullshit hits dark skin women have had to put up with. 🙄
But then to see supposed "rational, intelligent, thinkers" defend slurs under the guise of "no one dies" and "it wasn't directed at you", that blows my mind.
To have it be broken down to me being "sensitive" is abhorrent because it's not like calling someone "sick",
It's not the first time that I've been called a nigger and as long as I stay black and speaking my mind, it will happen again. Hell, the first time I got called a nigger was when I was 12 and similarly got off scott-free, so I guess that's why I'm partially upset.
@Skunkbomb123
Apparently there is and people are losing their minds about it. Meanwhile, we have Indigenous, Asian, and Black folks begging people to please respect their cultural traditions and this is the response:
You didn't read anything I wrote, did you? You didn't take the time unpack all of that trauma and force that Black people have dealt with due to our hair.
You didn't read and thus you didn't care to engage with the content fully.
Heres your 5 mins of attention. Move around.
I'm wondering if I hug this really tightly and say "I need your research on COVID-19 to fight conspiracy theories", maybe I can find
@sailorrooscout
here at MFF. :D
As someone tried to do to justify the using of it, but because it's a hate-filled word. People have been murdered and their bodies mutilated after being called that word or having the audacity to defy that word and now I'm being sensitive because you shouldn't throw it around?
I wasn't going to put these people on blast because I'm better than that and older and said I wouldn't resort to it, but when you appeal to the admin of the group to enforce their own rules and they ignore you, the injustice of the slight stings more.
There's a disconnect happening. I see lots of POC writers saying they need more readers and lots of POC readers saying we need more writers. I mean, we're here and have been out here (I'm in like 9 anthologies, edited 3, and am in 3 mags) but we're still not getting noticed...
I did it.
I actually did it. I finished my first year of my master's program. Holy shit! And on
#WorldDholeDay
too!!!
Ahahahahahahahaha!!!!
Now to do some household chores and actually get to bed at a decent time again! 😃
No one responded until I was like What? And he knew he was wrong because he deleted it.
And I'm like nope, if you want to be proud and casually drop slurs, don't delete it and try to run. Your so-called freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences.
I'm deeply disappointed in you, JK. Goblet of Fire kept me out of trouble bc I preferred to read it instead of being uncontrollable with my classmates. That you would sic your hoards of followers after her is abhorrent.
You've become exactly what your books rallied us against.
Deeply disappointed
@jessiegender
doesn't realise purethink is incompatible with owning ANYTHING connected with me, in ANY form. The truly righteous wouldn't just burn their books and movies but the local library, anything with an owl on it and their own pet dogs.

Yeah, it is misogynistic. From "fish" to "smelly vaginas", gay men can be some of the cruelest and most prolific perpetrators of misogyny & body shaming.
It's good to say "Nah, not my thing. I'm not interested" or not say anything AT ALL like an adult than to make a shitty take.
Broke my damn brain trying to apply rational theory to irrational actors.
It's playing chess with a pigeon again:You know and follow the rules while the pigeon doesn't give a damn. It's just gonna shit all over the board and strut around like it won.
@runolgarun
@pattonoswalt
@KristaVernoff
But MLK Jr. Voted (or at least tried to) and thoroughly got beaten for it. He at least made an attempt, unlike Dubois, who, when his Talented Tenth failed him, moved to Ghana.
King at least tried to change the system by working within it and then displaying civil disobedience
Dr. King believed in nonviolence, but he wasn't a fool and though people like to compare and contrast him with X, they agreed on a lot, namely that white supremacy won't be defeated by pacifism.
Do that and tip your local Black person for the emotional bs of this month.
"To be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a state of rage almost, almost all of the time — and in one's work." - James Baldwin
Forever struggling with being a Black American and not wanting to just burn everything to the ground all the time.
@ItsBrendaBanks
@SoatokDhole
The sad thing on the right is that they typically employ transphobia against many Black women who gain any measure of renown (see Serena Williams). The "Black woman is a man, actually" trope is so aggravating and tired. The racism cloaked as transphobia has gotta stop. :|
No lie, but knowing the symptoms helped me save my mom's life. She kept complaining about indigestion, dizziness, and fatigue. We were supposed to go out to dinner but her symptoms bothered me, so I took her to the ER first. She had a blockage in her LAD (widowmaker) valve.
Black folks please note:
If your mom doesn’t feel good and she thinks she has “food poisoning or something”, PLEASE TAKE HER TO THE ER. The symptoms are extremely similar to a cardiac event. No, she won’t want to go. MAKE HER.
@ingloriousgigi
So many WOC whose works I've read & loved had to not only raise kids and work 8-5 (and then some) while living hand to mouth and never get these grants.
Meanwhile, Queen Transphobe of Retconning Books can paint a rags to riches story to make herself relatable.
Girl, bye. 😒
Ask us about game development, narrative design, editing, how to develop well-rounded characters, the like.
Invite us to the table and we'll definitely show y'all what we're working with.
And please do it beyond BLACK HISTORY MONTH and/or national tragedies. 😘
@MissyElliott
Your rap at the beginning of "Pass that Dutch" really moved me as a kid. You and Aaliyah were and still are my idols.
"Aaliyah, baby girl, I've learned to love those while they're still awake. Sleep!"
@ReignOfApril
@Ebonyteach
Every BW/BM *had* to have a title. Cousin, Ms., Mr, if not Aunt/Uncle. It's a measure of respect. Even as an adult, everyone has a title.
Furries, please be nice to the staff. They're there to help you out and make your con memorable. They're giving up their con experience to make yours safe, enjoyable, but most importantly, fun.
Helped someone get their 1st novel published
Helped a family with a major issue at AC
Helped some unaccompanied minors at VF during "The Incident"
Got accepted to this research team that I love
Got my family members into therapy
Am the Writing GOH
@FurvanaNW
Staffed 5 cons ;)
Like y'all should have been inviting us to the table long before now because we've BEEN here, but as I said, they and I would love to chat and host panels, especially on things that aren't just "DIVERSITY" or trauma, ya dig?
And yet, I got two people, in particular this poor girl from South Africa who railed about white genocide and me not understanding what it's like to be slurred...until she said that if I wanted to "act like an animal, then derogatory language should be used."
@donmoyn
There's nothing anyone can post that will convince me that BrieBrie isn't a plant or double agent. Like you could give her student loan forgiveness, UBI, VRA, and every other progressive agenda item and because Bernie didn't do it, she'd complain. >_>
@HugoThePinkCat
Okay, so last week I was a white woman because Black Furries Do Not Exist™️ and now this week, I'm apparently a "grown man who dresses as a cartoon character so children trust and approach..."
Cool, cool.
I felt bad that someone had treated her badly because she's a white South African, but that doesn't justify the use of slurs.
When I brought it to the attention of the admin, who wasn't online and later came online this morning, their silence was astounding.
@Miles_DF
Lol this is you right now.
"Help me! I posted some bigoted, white supremacy bullshit and people called me out on it! I'm being oppressed!"
Then you also doubled-down on it. IYou were proud of that bigotry. So, be proud of this backlash. Be proud of people taking you to task.
What they believe Marxism is: DESTORY THE FAMILY!! KILL THE CAPITALISTS!! TEAR DOWN AMERICA!!!
What Marxism is: Society is divided into classes that are constantly fighting each other. Under capitalism, one exploits the other to remain on top.
Don't really care about your feelings re: Kamala Harris in this moment.
Just for now, I'm going to celebrate this achievement as someone who is Black and also a Woman.
For this moment in time, I'm going to celebrate for the first time in US history, a woman and a POC is the VP
I love how some people tout a PhD (or lack thereof) as a reason to dismiss someone's correct information. We won't even get into how hard it is for Black people to get a PhD due to our circumstances (most of us don't come from money and PhD funding is usually <min wage)
Those who know me know how much I went through to make it through school with what I had and what my family had. I didn’t grow up with money. I am still paying off my student loans but I’m still trying and will continue to do so. I am proud of how far I have gotten.
